Book excerpt: Dealing with critical issues of ownership, control and use of water as a resource, AUSTRALIAN WATER LAW offers practical and up-to-date guidance in an increasingly important area. Interconnected with property law and environmental law, water poses special regulatory challenges because of its character and potential; it also poses opportunities for disputes and litigation. A complex web of state and federal legislation seeks to manage and protect water and water rights, challenging practitioners who are advising on matters like access rights, statutory water entitlements, water planning and resource protection. Commercially, water law affects a widening range of infrastructure development and management projects, while the development of a national water market offers opportunities in trading of water rights, and risks and controls. Kate Stoeckel, Romany Webb and Luke Woodward bring to bear their considerable legal experience in matters involving water rights as well as regulation of the water and sewerage industry and Amy Hankinson offers her significant expertise in environmental law and water management.

Book Synopsis The Lamorna Reach by : Joy V Sheridan
Download or read book The Lamorna Reach written by Joy V Sheridan and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lamorna Reach presents a Zola-esque tableau of raw, elemental life in Cornwall at the time of the Napoleonic wars. Issy Penhalligan, the heroine, is incredibly beautiful and talented, but these qualities do not secure her a happy, comfortable life. She enters the world as a foundling, under the most brutal circumstances; she is fostered. Issy undergoes rape and abuse, and is pressurised into a prestigious but oppressive marriage. There is a saga of mutual obsession between her and the fascinating but totally dark and menacing Tobias Carmichael, who seduces but does not finally control her. There are brief glimpses of euphoria and romance. Issy is a fiercely independent spirit; true to form, she disguises herself as a man and goes on a maritime expedition. Eventually, jealousy and prejudice conspire against her. She leaves the world, but her spirit lives on.This novel has the added bonus of multiple perspective, alternating between first and third person narration.

Book Synopsis Advances in Plant Dormancy by : James V. Anderson
Download or read book Advances in Plant Dormancy written by James V. Anderson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant dormancy involves synchronization of environmental cues with developmental processes to ensure plant survival; however, negative impacts of plant dormancy include pre-harvest sprouting, non-uniform germination of crop and weed seeds, and fruit loss due to inappropriate bud break. Thus, our continued quest to disseminate information is important in moving our understanding of plant dormancy forward and to develop new ideas for improving food, feed, and fiber production and efficient weed control, particularly under global climate change. Proceeding from the 5th International Plant Dormancy Symposium will provide an overview related on our current understanding of how environmental factors impact cellular, molecular, and physiological processes involved in bud and seed dormancy, and perspectives and/or reviews on achievements, which should stimulate new ideas and lines of investigation that increase our understanding of plant dormancy and highlight directions for future research.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to Electromagnetic Theory by : P. C. Clemmow
Download or read book An Introduction to Electromagnetic Theory written by P. C. Clemmow and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1973-10-25 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1973, Dr Clemmow's Introduction to Electromagnetic Theory provides a crisp and selective account of the subject. It concentrates on field theory (with the early development of Maxwell's equations) and omits extended descriptions of experimental phenomena and technical applications, though without losing sight of the practical nature of the subject. Rationalized mks units are used and an awareness of orders of magnitude is fostered. Fields in media are discussed from both the macroscopic and microscopic points of view. As befits a mainly theoretical treatment, a knowledge of vector algebra and vector calculus is assumed, the standard results required being summarized in an appendix. Other comparatively advanced mathematical techniques, such as tensors anf those involving Legendre or Bessel functions, are avoided. Problems for solution, some 180 in all, are given at the end of each chapter.
Book Synopsis The Medieval Saga by : Carol J. Clover
Download or read book The Medieval Saga written by Carol J. Clover and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-03-15 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in the thirteenth century, the Icelandic prose sagas, chronicling the lives of kings and commoners, give a dramatic account of the first century after the settlement of Iceland—the period from about 930 to 1050. To some extent these elaborate tales are written versions of traditional sagas passed down by word of mouth. How did they become the long and polished literary works that are still read today? The evolution of the written sagas is commonly regarded as an anomalous phenomenon, distinct from contemporary developments in European literature. In this groundbreaking study, Carol J. Clover challenges this view and relates the rise of imaginative prose in Iceland directly to the rise of imaginative prose on the Continent. Analyzing the narrative structure and composition of the sagas and comparing them with other medieval works, Clover shows that the Icelandic authors, using Continental models, owe the prose form of their writings, as well as some basic narrative strategies, to Latin historiography and to French romance.
