Book Synopsis Principles of Subjective Anthropology by : Binggong Chen
Download or read book Principles of Subjective Anthropology written by Binggong Chen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-27 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book puts forward the concept of “subjective anthropology” and outlines a theoretical system that will allow subjective anthropology to qualify as a new academic discipline in its own right. In an effort to respond to the field’s proper role as the science of humanity, subjective analysis has been introduced into the study of anthropology. The book fills two distinct gaps in our knowledge and understanding of modern man, offering detailed descriptions of personality and of groups, while also advancing the theory of “structure and choice.” The book formulates seven basic principles of subjective anthropology and divides anthropology into three major branches: subjective anthropology, cultural anthropology, and biological (or physical) anthropology, which can be further divided into sub-branches. The book pursues three key goals: advancing and developing the theoretical system of subjective anthropology, reconstructing the discipline of anthropology, and establishing a Chinese anthropology with Chinese characteristics, Chinese visions, and Chinese styles.

Book Synopsis The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim Myŏng-sun by : Jung Ja Choi
Download or read book The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim Myŏng-sun written by Jung Ja Choi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim Myŏng-sun offers an introduction to Korea’s first modern woman writer to publish a collection of creative works, Kim Myŏng-sun (1896–ca. 1954). Despite attempts by male contemporaries to assassinate her character, Kim was an outspoken writer and an early feminist, confronting patriarchal Korean society in essays, plays, poems, and short stories. This volume is the first to offer a detailed analysis in English of Kim’s poetry. The poems examined in this volume can be considered early twentieth-century versions of #MeToo literature, mirroring the harrowing account of her sexual assault, and also subversive challenges to traditional institutions, dealing with themes such as romantic free love, same-sex love, single womanhood, and explicit female desire and passion. The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim Myŏng-sun restores a long-neglected woman writer to her rightful place in the history of Korean literature, shedding light on the complexity of women’s lives in Korea and contributing to the growing interest in modern Korean women’s literature in the West.

Book Synopsis The House On Fortune Street by : Margot Livesey
Download or read book The House On Fortune Street written by Margot Livesey and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2011-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems like mutual good luck for Abigail and Dara when they meet at university and, despite their differences, become fast friends. Years later, they remain an unlikely pair: Abigail, an actress who confidently uses her charms both on and off stage, is reluctant to commit; Dara, a therapist, throws herself into every relationship with frightening intensity. Yet each seems—another stroke of luck?—to have found “true love”—Abigail with her academic boyfriend, and Dara with a tall, dark violinist. Soon, however, trouble threatens both relationships and the women’s friendship. Through four ingeniously interlocking narratives, Margot Livesey skillfully reveals how luck—good and bad—plays a vital role in our lives, and how our childhood legacies may be harder to leave behind than we hope. “Vibrant, evocative, irresistible” (Los Angeles Times), The House on Fortune Street offers a surprisingly provocative detective story of the heart, one that will keep you in its thrall.

Book Synopsis CHOICES: Never-Ending Dilemmas in Everyday Life by : Arthur Asa Berger
Download or read book CHOICES: Never-Ending Dilemmas in Everyday Life written by Arthur Asa Berger and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2024-01-23 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the never-ending need we have to make choices. If you think about it, we have to decide what time to wake up every morning, what to wear (unless we need to wear a uniform), what to have for breakfast (if we eat breakfast), lunch and dinner (and if we eat in restaurants, what to order), and our need to make all kinds of other choices all day long. Some of our choices are mundane, like what to have for breakfast (if we eat breakfast): to have coffee or tea (and if so, plain or with milk), cereal, toast or a bagel (and if so, what kind: plain, with poppy seeds, with everything) or a sweet roll, eggs (if so, fried, soft boiled, scrambled), and so on. Most of the choices we make are not important, and we often develop habits to relieve us of having to think about our choices. For example, I have the same thing for breakfast every day: a bowl of oatmeal with chia seeds and flax seeds, hot milk, a cup of espresso coffee with hot milk, and half a bagel with butter. Occasionally, I have a soft-boiled egg, as well. But other choices we have to make are life-changing, such as how to live (single, living with a partner, or getting married), what kind of education to get, what kind of job or profession to choose, where to live and what kind of house to buy (if you can afford a house), whom to vote for, and so on. After reading this book, you will better understand the role that the choices we make play in society and culture and in our everyday lives.
