Book Synopsis A Lichenometric Study of Holocene Rock Glaciers and Neoglacial Moraines, Frances Lake Map Area, Southeastern Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories by : Arthur S. Dyke
Download or read book A Lichenometric Study of Holocene Rock Glaciers and Neoglacial Moraines, Frances Lake Map Area, Southeastern Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories written by Arthur S. Dyke and published by Energy Mines and Resources Canada. This book was released on 1990 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Frances Lake map area of the northeastern Canadian Cordillera is crossed by northwest-southeast trending ranges of the Selwyn Mountains. Rock glaciers and neoglacial moraines were mapped during general surficial geological mapping in 1981 and selected features were studied in detail in 1983 from 6 fly camps in the northeastern part of the study area. Lichenometric ages are thought to pertain to time elapsed since stabilization of substrate, roughly corresponding to time elapsed since deposition of moraines and since initial flow of a rock glacier lobe or tread off from its parent apron. The ages of rock glaciers and moraines were assessed through lichenometry, the only dating technique that can be applied to nearly all substrates. This report discusses the lichenometric method used and presents the results from the 6 study areas as well as a regional summary and correlation.

Download or read book Rockglaciers written by Dietrich Barsch and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-08-05 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rockglaciers are the visible expression of the creep of mountain permafrost. They are indicative of special geo-ecologic and geomorphic conditions regarding thermal situation, talus production, hydrology, and hazards in high mountain environments of all major mountain systems on earth. As relict features, they are of great paleoclimatic value. This book presents a systematic treatment of this landform in its environmental context.

Book Synopsis Terrain Inventory and Quaternary History of the Pelly River Area, Yukon Territory by : Lionel E. Jackson
Download or read book Terrain Inventory and Quaternary History of the Pelly River Area, Yukon Territory written by Lionel E. Jackson and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Pelly River area is rich in mineral resources including both base and precious metals. This study area is also rich in water, wildlife, forest, recreational, and scenic resources of the upper Pelly, Teslin, and Liard River systems. Future land use conflicts are likely unless careful planning is employed ... The author provides an inventory of surficial deposits of the Pelly River area, describes the processes that modify them, and details the Quaternary history of this area. This report enlarges upon the accompanying Geological Survey of the Canada maps 1790A-1793A (105F), 1794A-1797A 105G), 1819A-1822A (105K), and 1832A-1835A (105J)."--Introduction.

Download or read book Steepland Geomorphology written by Olav Slaymaker and published by Chichester, Eng. : Wiley. This book was released on 1995-12-04 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steepland geomorphology concerns high gradient landscapes which are either tectonically active or influenced by volcanism and where there is a perceived close relationship between soils, incomplete vegetation cover, recent geomorphic processes and associated landforms. Such areas are difficult to manage because of their high variability in terms of natural stability and because of inadequate theory and models. This book, through thirteen independent steepland field investigations, illustrates the differing conceptual frameworks that are used at four different temporal scales of investigation. The first four investigations, from Southern Africa, the Yukon Territory, the German Alps and Colombia, define relevant temporal scales. The other investigations concern the sediment production problem in Spitzbergen and northern Norway, sediment storage phenomena in Iceland, Bolivia, the Himalayas and the Apennines, and methods of interpreting environmental change from Japan, the Canadian Rockies, Ecuador and Bolivia.

Book Synopsis Glacial Geology by : Matthew M. Bennett
Download or read book Glacial Geology written by Matthew M. Bennett and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-20 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new Second Edition of Glacial Geology provides a modern, comprehensive summary of glacial geology and geomorphology. It is has been thoroughly revised and updated from the original First Edition. This book will appeal to all students interested in the landforms and sediments that make up glacial landscapes. The aim of the book is to outline glacial landforms and sediments and to provide the reader with the tools required to interpret glacial landscapes. It describes how glaciers work and how the processes of glacial erosion and deposition which operate within them are recorded in the glacial landscape. The Second Edition is presented in the same clear and concise format as the First Edition, providing detailed explanations that are not cluttered with unnecessary detail. Additions include a new chapter on Glaciations around the Globe, demonstrating the range of glacial environments present on Earth today and a new chapter on Palaeoglaciology, explaining how glacial landforms and sediments are used in ice-sheet reconstructions. Like the original book, text boxes are used throughout to explain key concepts and to introduce students to case study material from the glacial literature. Newly updated sections on Further Reading are also included at the end of each chapter to point the reader towards key references. The book is illustrated throughout with colour photographs and illustrations.
