Book Synopsis Lattice QCD for Nuclear Physics by : Huey-Wen Lin
Download or read book Lattice QCD for Nuclear Physics written by Huey-Wen Lin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-21 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With ever increasing computational resources and improvements in algorithms, new opportunities are emerging for lattice gauge theory to address key questions in strongly interacting systems, such as nuclear matter. Calculations today use dynamical gauge-field ensembles with degenerate light up/down quarks and the strange quark and it is possible now to consider including charm-quark degrees of freedom in the QCD vacuum. Pion masses and other sources of systematic error, such as finite-volume and discretization effects, are beginning to be quantified systematically. Altogether, an era of precision calculation has begun and many new observables will be calculated at the new computational facilities. The aim of this set of lectures is to provide graduate students with a grounding in the application of lattice gauge theory methods to strongly interacting systems and in particular to nuclear physics. A wide variety of topics are covered, including continuum field theory, lattice discretizations, hadron spectroscopy and structure, many-body systems, together with more topical lectures in nuclear physics aimed a providing a broad phenomenological background. Exercises to encourage hands-on experience with parallel computing and data analysis are included.

Download or read book Quark Confinement And The Hadron Spectrum V, Proceedings Of The 5th International Conference written by Nora Serafina Brambilla and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-08-27 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an update on our understanding of strong interaction, with theoretical and experimental highlights included. It is divided into five sections. The first section is devoted to the investigations into and the latest results on the mechanism of quark confinement. The second and third sections focus respectively on light and heavy quarks (effective field theories, Schwinger-Dyson approach and lattice QCD results). The fourth section deals with the deconfinement mechanism and quark-gluon plasma formation signals. The last section presents highlights of experiments, new physics beyond QCD, and nonperturbative approaches in other theories (strings and SUSY) that may be useful in QCD.

Book Synopsis Phenomenology And Lattice Qcd - Proceedings Of The 1993 Uehling Summer School by : Sharpe Stephen R
Download or read book Phenomenology And Lattice Qcd - Proceedings Of The 1993 Uehling Summer School written by Sharpe Stephen R and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-12-21 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These six lecture courses provide the background necessary in the understanding of the application of lattice methods to phenomenology, and give examples of interesting applications. The first three introduce the necessary techniques: chiral perturbation theory, heavy quark effective field theory, and lattice gauge theory. The remaining three describe how these techniques are used, mainly in lattice simulations, in the study of interesting phenomenological questions: vacuum structure, finite temperature QCD, and electroweak matrix elements. What distinguishes this volume from others is its focus on providing the background necessary for us to understand the methods and the significance of lattice gauge theory research.
