This book was released on 2002 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the introduction of Safety Case Regulations, following Lord Cullen's report on the Piper Alpha disaster, a Safety Case, which is renewed every three years, is required for each installation operating in UK waters, to ensure that structural integrity is maintained. The reassessment of structural integrity is therefore an important issue amongst offshore operators. Fracture mechanics analysis, using the stress intensity factor, provides the only viable means to assess the remaining fatigue life of cracked tubular joints. Also, assessing the significance of the fatigue damage allows expensive in-service inspections to be scheduled effectively, thus improving safety. The economic benefit of a reliable fatigue crack growth analysis procedure can thus be significant, as it enables the risk of fatigue failure to be properly evaluated, allowing expensive repairs of damaged components to be carried out only when necessary. The results of this research are therefore of interest to offshore oil and gas operators and authorities enforcing offshore safety regulations.
Book Synopsis Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches by : Dieter Radaj
Download or read book Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches written by Dieter Radaj and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2006-10-30 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Local approaches to fatigue assessment are used to predict the structural durability of welded joints, to optimise their design and to evaluate unforeseen joint failures. This standard work provides a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods. It covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Seam-welded and spot-welded joints in structural steels and aluminium alloys are also considered. This completely reworked second edition takes into account the tremendous progress in understanding and applying local approaches which has been achieved in the last decade. It is a standard reference for designers, structural analysts and testing engineers who are responsible for the fatigue-resistant in-service behaviour of welded structures. Completely reworked second edition of a standard work providing a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods Covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Book Synopsis Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures by : Linus Etube
Download or read book Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures written by Linus Etube and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Etube (mechanical engineering, University College London) presents novel research and the results of wave-induced stress on the operational life of offshore structures. Using the results of an investigation undertaken to assess the fatigue and fracture performance of steels used in the industry, the five chapters discuss details of the methodology to develop a typical jack-up offshore standard load history (JOSH); factors that influence fatigue resistance of structural steels used in the construction of jack-up structures; methods used to model the relevant factors for inclusion in JOSH, with emphasis on loading and structural response interaction; results and details of experimental variable amplitude corrosion fatigue tests conducted using JOSH; and a novel generalized methodology for fast assessment of offshore structural welded joints. Book Synopsis Fracture Mechanics of Metals, Composites, Welds, and Bolted Joints by : Bahram Farahmand

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the preliminary stage of designing new structural hardware to perform a given mission in a fluctuating load environment, there are several factors that the designer should consider. Trade studies for different design configurations should be performed and, based on strength and weight considerations, among others, an optimum configuration selected. The selected design must withstand the environment in question without failure. Therefore, a comprehensive structural analysis that consists of static, dynamic, fatigue, and fracture is necessary to ensure the integrity of the structure. Engineers must also consider the feasibility of fabricating the structural hardware in the material selection process. During the past few decades, fracture mechanics has become a necessary discipline for the solution of many structural problems in which the survivability of structure containing pre-existing flaws is of great interest. These problems include structural failures resulting from cracks that are inherent in the material, or defects that are introduced in the part due to improper handling or rough machining, that must be assessed through fracture mechanics concepts.
Book Synopsis Full-Scale Fatigue Testing of Components and Structures by : K. J. Marsh
Download or read book Full-Scale Fatigue Testing of Components and Structures written by K. J. Marsh and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Full-scale Fatigue Testing of Components and Structures presents the approaches to the testing of full-scale components or structures. The book begins by examining the necessity or desirability of full-scale fatigue testing. Subsequent chapters are devoted to the discussion of fatigue testing done on aircraft structures, railway components, helicopter rotor heads, artillery gun structures, and bridge components. The role of full-scale fatigue testing on automotive components and systems, structural testing in nuclear engineering, and the use of a structural fatigue testing laboratory for other tests are covered as well. Engineers, materials scientists, and researchers in the field of fatigue testing will find the book very useful.
