Book Synopsis Space in Diachrony by : Silvia Luraghi
Download or read book Space in Diachrony written by Silvia Luraghi and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-08-14 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space is a fundamental dimension of human life and is pervasive in human experience. Research on space has highlighted the possible asymmetrical nature of spatial relations. Differences in the encoding of goals and sources of motion are a case in point, and cross-linguistic coding tendencies show that path is less frequently flagged by a dedicated case than goal, source/origin, and (static) location (locative). Interestingly, such asymmetries may correlate with certain types of landmark, as in the case of toponyms or of animate entities. Even though these issues have been focused upon both in typological and psycholinguistic research, they remain largely open. The papers in this collection aim to show that a diachronic approach may shed light on the way in which asymmetries in the space domain come about over time, thus contributing to the clarification of synchronically puzzling facts.
Book Synopsis International Studies by : Stanley Toops
Download or read book International Studies written by Stanley Toops and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a much-needed classroom text in international studies that is genuinely interdisciplinary in its approach. International Studies focuses specifically on five core disciplines; history, geography, anthropology, political science and economics, and describes them in relation to one another, as well as their individual and collective contributions to the study of global issues. The expert authors also emphasize the continuing importance of area studies within an interdisciplinary and global framework, applying its interdisciplinary framework to substantive issues in seven regions: Europe, East Asia and the Pacific, South and Central Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and North America. This new edition has been completely updated and substantially revised with two new chapters on Media, Sovereignty and Cybersecurity and Sustainable Development. This disciplinary and regional combination offers a useful and cohesive framework for teaching students a substantive and comprehensive approach to understanding global issues.
Book Synopsis World Language Teacher Education by : Jacqueline F. Davis

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The significant change in public schools over the last two decades warrants a response in how we prepare teachers. This volume is an effort to share the contributors’ knowledge, experience and ideas with colleagues, particularly with novice language teacher educators. The suggestions in the chapters are primarily provided for the teaching methods course, but many can be adapted to other education courses or for professional development programs. The second section explores teacher educators in the literature such as issues in their practice, and a focus on foreign language teacher educator practice. The third section provides a brief overview of the chapters in the book.
