Book Synopsis Strategy in Action by : Rachel E. Curtis
Download or read book Strategy in Action written by Rachel E. Curtis and published by Harvard Education Press. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we systemically improve the quality of classroom instruction and the learning and achievement of students? In an era when isolated examples of excellence are not good enough, we need systems that support improvement and excellence for all. This book describes how systems can effectively engage in this complex, challenging, and crucial work. The authors explore three core competencies of high-performing school systems: (1) understanding what the work is—a deep understanding of the core business of facilitating learning, a vision of what that looks like, and an awareness of where the system is in relation to that vision; (2) knowing how to do the work—a theory of action for improving instruction, a focus on key strategies, and effective alignment of resources; and (3) building the individual and organizational “habits of mind” that foster continuous improvement. Each chapter includes examples that illustrate key concepts in action, questions to spur self-assessment in key areas of competence, and tools and resources for building capacity at different levels and stages of development.

Book Synopsis Operations Strategy in Action by : Kim Hua Tan
Download or read book Operations Strategy in Action written by Kim Hua Tan and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fresh and enlightening book offers a rounded overview of operations strategy with a particular focus on implementation. The premise of the book is that developing an effective operations strategy without its subsequent implementation will render the strategising process a waste of time and resources. The authors explain the pros and cons of existing approaches to implementation as well as offering a systematic framework for turning strategic intent into actions. They offer a fresh look at a subject whose importance within academia and industry is rapidly increasing due to the need to refocus the attention of business upon the elements that actually add value to society operations. Although operations strategy implementation is a broad and complex subject area, by developing a mature, broad perspective of the subject the authors consider that all elements of an organisation have potential to contribute directly by adding tangible values to the operations strategy process. This study will be of great interest to academics and will also give practitioners confidence in efficiently formulating and effectively implementing strategies that reflect the needs of today s business. Advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students studying operations strategy and manufacturing strategy will find this book an essential and fascinating read. In short, it should be able to offer all those involved in operations management a comprehensive and coherent view of the subject that until now has been lacking.

Book Synopsis The Balanced Scorecard by : Robert S. Kaplan
Download or read book The Balanced Scorecard written by Robert S. Kaplan and published by Harvard Business Review Press. This book was released on 1996-08-02 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Balanced Scorecard translates a company's vision and strategy into a coherent set of performance measures. The four perspectives of the scorecard--financial measures, customer knowledge, internal business processes, and learning and growth--offer a balance between short-term and long-term objectives, between outcomes desired and performance drivers of those outcomes, and between hard objective measures and softer, more subjective measures. In the first part, Kaplan and Norton provide the theoretical foundations for the Balanced Scorecard; in the second part, they describe the steps organizations must take to build their own Scorecards; and, finally, they discuss how the Balanced Scorecard can be used as a driver of change.

Book Synopsis Strategy for Action – I by : Giorgio Gandellini
Download or read book Strategy for Action – I written by Giorgio Gandellini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-18 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The innovative and unique feature of this book is that it does not contain theoretical concept that cannot be translated into practice. The model which introduces this volume sets the stage for addressing the major phases of the strategic management process: environmental analysis, strategy formulation and development, strategy evaluation and control. Its conceptual and operational structure is described in the first part, together with a practically oriented definition of strategy, and a brief discussion of the logic and benefits of the judgmental modeling approach to decision making. The second part critically addresses the classical approaches to the analysis of the external and internal environmental factors, which have an impact on the “functioning” of the basic model, i.e. the structural characteristics of the industry context, and the companies’ technical, organizational, financial, and human resources, including the translation into operational models of otherwise rather theoretical concepts.

Book Synopsis Regional Strategy and Action Plan for Forest and Landscape Restoration in Asia-Pacific by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book Regional Strategy and Action Plan for Forest and Landscape Restoration in Asia-Pacific written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Degradation of forests can have severe negative local impacts and far-reaching consequences, including soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, dust storms, diminished livelihood opportunities and reduced yields of forest products and services. Reversing the adverse conditions requires urgent and scaled-up action, through scientific and holistic landscape-level restoration approaches, balancing both socio-economic and environmental goals and the diverse needs of various sectors and stakeholders in the landscape. The forest and landscape restoration (FLR) approach has gained momentum in recent years. The concept is based on the recognition that trees and forests comprise critical components of rural landscapes and that diversification at landscape levels can enhance ecological and socio-economic resilience while accommodating different site conditions and land management goals. Given the increasing challenge of mitigating and adapting to climate change and vast expanses of degraded landscapes with decreased capacity to provide essential forest products and services, we are seeing increased political interest and commitment to enhance forest cover and functions, and to FLR, at both international and national levels. With this background, the Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO RAP) initiated an effort to develop a strategy and action plan for forest and landscape restoration in the region.
