Book Synopsis Nevanlinna Theory And Its Relation To Diophantine Approximation (Second Edition) by : Min Ru
Download or read book Nevanlinna Theory And Its Relation To Diophantine Approximation (Second Edition) written by Min Ru and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the theories and developments in Nevanlinna theory and Diophantine approximation. Although these two subjects belong to the different areas: one in complex analysis and one in number theory, it has been discovered that a number of striking similarities exist between these two subjects. A growing understanding of these connections has led to significant advances in both fields. Outstanding conjectures from decades ago are being solved.Over the past 20 years since the first edition appeared, there have been many new and significant developments. The new edition greatly expands the materials. In addition, three new chapters were added. In particular, the theory of algebraic curves, as well as the algebraic hyperbolicity, which provided the motivation for the Nevanlinna theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the very successful second China-Japan Seminar held in lizuka, Fukuoka, Japan, during March 12-16, 2001 under the support of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and some invited papers of eminent number-theorists who visited Japan during 1999-2001 at the occasion of the Conference at the Research Institute of Mathematical Sciences (RIMS), Kyoto University. The proceedings of the 1st China-Japan Seminar held in September 1999 in Beijing has been published recently {2002) by Kluwer as DEVM 6 which also contains some invited papers. The topics of that volume are, however, restricted to analytic number theory and many papers in this field are assembled. In this volume, we return to the lines of the previous one "Number Theory and its Applications", published as DEVM 2 by Kluwer in 1999 and uphold the spirit of presenting various topics in number theory and related areas with possible applica tions, in a unified manner, and this time in nearly a book form with a well-prepared index. We accomplish this task by collecting highly informative and readable survey papers (including half-survey type papers), giving overlooking surveys of the hith erto obtained results in up-to-the-hour form with insight into the new developments, which are then analytically continued to a collection of high standard research papers which are concerned with rather diversed areas and will give good insight into new researches in the new century.

Each chapter is based on an instructional lecture given by its author ata special conference for graduate students, on the topic of Faltings' paper.
Book Synopsis Some Problems of Unlikely Intersections in Arithmetic and Geometry by : Umberto Zannier
Download or read book Some Problems of Unlikely Intersections in Arithmetic and Geometry written by Umberto Zannier and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-25 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers the so-called Unlikely Intersections, a topic that embraces well-known issues, such as Lang's and Manin-Mumford's, concerning torsion points in subvarieties of tori or abelian varieties. More generally, the book considers algebraic subgroups that meet a given subvariety in a set of unlikely dimension. The book is an expansion of the Hermann Weyl Lectures delivered by Umberto Zannier at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton in May 2010. The book consists of four chapters and seven brief appendixes, the last six by David Masser. The first chapter considers multiplicative algebraic groups, presenting proofs of several developments, ranging from the origins to recent results, and discussing many applications and relations with other contexts. The second chapter considers an analogue in arithmetic and several applications of this. The third chapter introduces a new method for approaching some of these questions, and presents a detailed application of this (by Masser and the author) to a relative case of the Manin-Mumford issue. The fourth chapter focuses on the André-Oort conjecture (outlining work by Pila).
Book Synopsis Diophantine Approximation by : Robert F. Tichy
Download or read book Diophantine Approximation written by Robert F. Tichy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-10 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains 21 research and survey papers on recent developments in the field of diophantine approximation, which are based on lectures given at a conference at the Erwin Schrödinger-Institute (Vienna, 2003). The articles are either in the spirit of more classical diophantine analysis or of a geometric or combinatorial flavor. Several articles deal with estimates for the number of solutions of diophantine equations as well as with congruences and polynomials.
Book Synopsis Advanced Topics in the Arithmetic of Elliptic Curves by : Joseph H. Silverman
Download or read book Advanced Topics in the Arithmetic of Elliptic Curves written by Joseph H. Silverman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the introduction to the first volume of The Arithmetic of Elliptic Curves (Springer-Verlag, 1986), I observed that "the theory of elliptic curves is rich, varied, and amazingly vast," and as a consequence, "many important topics had to be omitted." I included a brief introduction to ten additional topics as an appendix to the first volume, with the tacit understanding that eventually there might be a second volume containing the details. You are now holding that second volume. it turned out that even those ten topics would not fit Unfortunately, into a single book, so I was forced to make some choices. The following material is covered in this book: I. Elliptic and modular functions for the full modular group. II. Elliptic curves with complex multiplication. III. Elliptic surfaces and specialization theorems. IV. Neron models, Kodaira-Neron classification of special fibers, Tate's algorithm, and Ogg's conductor-discriminant formula. V. Tate's theory of q-curves over p-adic fields. VI. Neron's theory of canonical local height functions.
Book Synopsis The Dynamical Mordell–Lang Conjecture by : Jason P. Bell
Download or read book The Dynamical Mordell–Lang Conjecture written by Jason P. Bell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2016-04-20 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dynamical Mordell-Lang Conjecture is an analogue of the classical Mordell-Lang conjecture in the context of arithmetic dynamics. It predicts the behavior of the orbit of a point x under the action of an endomorphism f of a quasiprojective complex variety X. More precisely, it claims that for any point x in X and any subvariety V of X, the set of indices n such that the n-th iterate of x under f lies in V is a finite union of arithmetic progressions. In this book the authors present all known results about the Dynamical Mordell-Lang Conjecture, focusing mainly on a p-adic approach which provides a parametrization of the orbit of a point under an endomorphism of a variety.

Book Synopsis The Arithmetic of Elliptic Curves by : Joseph H. Silverman
Download or read book The Arithmetic of Elliptic Curves written by Joseph H. Silverman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of elliptic curves is distinguished by its long history and by the diversity of the methods that have been used in its study. This book treats the arithmetic approach in its modern formulation, through the use of basic algebraic number theory and algebraic geometry. Following a brief discussion of the necessary algebro-geometric results, the book proceeds with an exposition of the geometry and the formal group of elliptic curves, elliptic curves over finite fields, the complex numbers, local fields, and global fields. Final chapters deal with integral and rational points, including Siegels theorem and explicit computations for the curve Y = X + DX, while three appendices conclude the whole: Elliptic Curves in Characteristics 2 and 3, Group Cohomology, and an overview of more advanced topics.
Download or read book Number Theory written by W.A. Coppel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-02 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume book is a modern introduction to the theory of numbers, emphasizing its connections with other branches of mathematics. Part A is accessible to first-year undergraduates and deals with elementary number theory. Part B is more advanced and gives the reader an idea of the scope of mathematics today. The connecting theme is the theory of numbers. By exploring its many connections with other branches a broad picture is obtained. The book contains a treasury of proofs, several of which are gems seldom seen in number theory books.
Book Synopsis Algorithmic Number Theory by : Claus Fieker
Download or read book Algorithmic Number Theory written by Claus Fieker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-06-26 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-organized criticality (SOC) has become a magic word in various scientific disciplines; it provides a framework for understanding complexity and scale invariance in systems showing irregular fluctuations. In the first 10 years after Per Bak and his co-workers presented their seminal idea, more than 2000 papers on this topic appeared. Seismology has been a field in earth sciences where the SOC concept has already deepened the understanding, but there seem to be much more examples in earth sciences where applying the SOC concept may be fruitful. After introducing the reader into the basics of fractals, chaos and SOC, the book presents established and new applications of SOC in earth sciences, namely earthquakes, forest fires, landslides and drainage networks.

Book Synopsis Lectures on the Arithmetic Riemann-Roch Theorem. (AM-127), Volume 127 by : Gerd Faltings
Download or read book Lectures on the Arithmetic Riemann-Roch Theorem. (AM-127), Volume 127 written by Gerd Faltings and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-02 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The arithmetic Riemann-Roch Theorem has been shown recently by Bismut-Gillet-Soul. The proof mixes algebra, arithmetic, and analysis. The purpose of this book is to give a concise introduction to the necessary techniques, and to present a simplified and extended version of the proof. It should enable mathematicians with a background in arithmetic algebraic geometry to understand some basic techniques in the rapidly evolving field of Arakelov-theory.
Book Synopsis Variations on a Theorem of Tate by : Stefan Patrikis
Download or read book Variations on a Theorem of Tate written by Stefan Patrikis and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let F be a number field. These notes explore Galois-theoretic, automorphic, and motivic analogues and refinements of Tate's basic result that continuous projective representations Gal(F¯¯¯¯/F)→PGLn(C) lift to GLn(C). The author takes special interest in the interaction of this result with algebraicity (for automorphic representations) and geometricity (in the sense of Fontaine-Mazur). On the motivic side, the author studies refinements and generalizations of the classical Kuga-Satake construction. Some auxiliary results touch on: possible infinity-types of algebraic automorphic representations; comparison of the automorphic and Galois “Tannakian formalisms” monodromy (independence-of-ℓ) questions for abstract Galois representations.
