The purpose of this project was to develop a family-based drug and alcohol education and prevention program for Cudahy, a Hispanic community in Los Angeles County. The mission of the program is to strengthen, educate, and empower Hispanic families to prevent alcohol and drug addiction. The objectives of the program include increasing parenting skills, developing healthy adolescent self-esteem and relationships, and enhancing family bonding. The steps taken to develop this project were researching risk and protective factors for Hispanic adolescent drug use, identifying potential funders, and developing a prevention program to fit the needs of Hispanic families. Based on the factors of population, time frame, and funding available, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation was chosen as the potential grantor for this project. Securing funding for this project was not a requirement of the thesis project.
