Book Synopsis Boundary Layer and Flow Control by : G. V. Lachmann
Download or read book Boundary Layer and Flow Control written by G. V. Lachmann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Layer and Flow Control: Its Principles and Application, Volume 2 focuses on the layer of fluid in the immediate area of a bounding surface where the effects of viscosity are substantial. This book is organized into two main topics—boundary layer control for low drag, and shock-induced separation and its prevention by design and boundary layer control. It specifically discusses the nature of transition, effect of two-dimensional and isolated roughness on laminar flow, and progress in the design of low drag aerofoils. The onset of separation effects for aerofoils and wings, shock-induced separation for laminar boundary layers, and shock-induced separation for laminar boundary layers are also deliberated. This volume is recommended to physicists and specialists interested in boundary layer and flow control.
Book Synopsis Two-Dimensional Separated Flows by : S. M. Belotserkovsky
Download or read book Two-Dimensional Separated Flows written by S. M. Belotserkovsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-11-30 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-Dimensional Separated Flows provides a systematic presentation of the theory of separated flow around bodies. The main classes of aerodynamic problems of plane-parallel flow around bodies are described, and the steady aerodynamic, unsteady aerodynamic, and statistical characteristics of a trailing wake are determined. Numerical methods based on the synthesis of models for non-viscous incompressible flow and boundary layer, algorithms, examples, and systematic comparisons are presented. The book also includes numerical results for the problem of separated flow around fixed, oscillating, and rotating cylinders, in addition to results for separated flow around an aerofoil over a wide range of angles. Two-Dimensional Separated Flows will benefit researchers and students studying aerodynamics, aircraft dynamics, aeroelasticity, and the aerodynamics of building structures.

Book Synopsis Natural Laminar Flow and Laminar Flow Control by : R.W. Barnwell

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on laminar flow and its transition to turbulent flow has been an important part of fluid dynamics research during the last sixty years. Since transition impacts, in some way, every aspect of aircraft performance, this emphasis is not only understandable but should continue well into the future. The delay of transition through the use of a favorable pressure gradient by proper body shaping (natural laminar flow) or the use of a small amount of suction (laminar flow control) was recognized even in the early 1930s and rapidly became the foundation of much of the laminar flow research in the U.S. and abroad. As one would expect, there have been many approaches, both theoretical and experimental, employed to achieve the substantial progress made to date. Boundary layer stability theories have been formu lated and calibrated by a good deal of wind tunnel and flight experiments. New laminar now airfoils and wings have been designed and many have been employed in aircraft designs. While the early research was, of necessity, concerned with the design of subsonic aircraft interest has steadily moved to higher speeds including those appropriate to planetary entry. Clearly, there have been substantial advances in our understanding of transition physics and in the development and application of transition prediction methodolo gies to the design of aircraft.
Book Synopsis Development of Theoretical Method for Two-Dimensional Multi-Element Airfoil Analysis and Design. Part I: Viscous-Flow Analysis Method by : Ishwar C. Bhateley
Download or read book Development of Theoretical Method for Two-Dimensional Multi-Element Airfoil Analysis and Design. Part I: Viscous-Flow Analysis Method written by Ishwar C. Bhateley and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method has been developed for the analysis of arbitrary multi-element airfoils in viscous flow. The viscous solution is obtained through an inviscid analysis of an equivalent system defined from viscous considerations. An iterative procedure has been formulated to implement this analysis. The inviscid solution is obtained through a distributed singularity method. A finite-difference method is used to determine boundary-layer characteristics. Methods are included to predict laminar-flow bubbles and separation and transition points. The equivalent airfoil is defined for airfoils with attached flow as well as for airfoils with flow separation. The validity of the method is established through comparison of the predicted results with experimental data for several single- and multi-element airfoils. The comparisons show good agreement for lift coefficient and maximum lift coefficient and fair agreement for drag and pitching moment coefficients. Details of the computer program developed to implement this method are described, including input and output details, FORTRAN source deck listing, and a sample problem. (Author).

Download or read book Special Course on Inverse Methods for Airfoil Design for Aeronautical and Turbomachinery Applications written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This lecture series is devoted to major aspects of aerofoil design both for aeronautical and turbomachine application. These include: (1) optimisation of target pressure and velocity distribution. Both direct optimisation resulting from an inverse boundary layer calculation and an iterative optimisation of the loses are presented. (2) aerofoil design by means of inverse methods. This ranges from simple parametric definitions of two- dimensional cross sections to a detailed numerical definition of three dimensional shapes. blade or airfoil designs are normally made in two steps, and the lectures are accordingly grouped into two parts. First, optimisation of target pressure and velocity distributions are discussed taking into account the required performance and the lost mechanisms in the boundary layer. Both direct optimisation resulting from an inverse boundary layer calculation, and an iterative optimisation by minimisation of the losses are presented. It is clear from both procedures that inclusion of off-design operation is one of the greatest difficulties involved in blade or airfoil operation. The second part gives an overview of the numerous inverse blade design methods that have been developed both for turbomachinery and aeronautical applications. This ranges from simple parameter definitions of two-dimensional cross-sections to the full three-dimensional definition of wings and blade channels."--DTIC.
