Book Synopsis Network Design with Applications to Transportation and Logistics by : Teodor Gabriel Crainic
Download or read book Network Design with Applications to Transportation and Logistics written by Teodor Gabriel Crainic and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-16 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the methodological and application developments of network design in transportation and logistics. It identifies trends, challenges and research perspectives in network design for these areas. Network design is a major class of problems in operations research where network flow, combinatorial and mixed integer optimization meet. The analysis and planning of transportation and logistics systems continues to be one of the most important application areas of operations research. Networks provide the natural way of depicting such systems, so the optimal design and operation of networks is the main methodological area of operations research that is used for the analysis and planning of these systems. This book defines the current state of the art in the general area of network design, and then turns to its applications to transportation and logistics. New research challenges are addressed. Network Design with Applications to Transportation and Logistics is divided into three parts. Part I examines basic design problems including fixed-cost network design and parallel algorithms. After addressing the basics, Part II focuses on more advanced models. Chapters cover topics such as multi-facility network design, flow-constrained network design, and robust network design. Finally Part III is dedicated entirely to the potential application areas for network design. These areas range from rail networks, to city logistics, to energy transport. All of the chapters are written by leading researchers in the field, which should appeal to analysts and planners.

Book Synopsis Integer Programming and Related Areas by : C. Kastning
Download or read book Integer Programming and Related Areas written by C. Kastning and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer Prograw~ing is one of the most fascinating and difficult areas in the field of Mathematical Optimization. Due to this fact notable research contributions to Integer Programming have been made in very different branches of mathematics and its applications. Since these publications are scattered over many journals, proceedings volumes, monographs, and working papers, a comprehensive bibliography of all these sources is a helpful tool even for specialists in this field. I initiated this compilation of literature in 1970 at the Institut fur ~konometrie und Operations Research, University of Bonn. Since then many collaborators have contributed to and worked on it. Among them Dipl.-Math. Claus Kastning has done the bulk of the work. With great perseverance and diligence he has gathered all the material and checked it with the original sources. The main aim was to incorporate rare and not easily accessible sources like Russian journals, preprints or unpublished papers. Without the invaluable and dedicated engagement of Claus Kastning the bibliography would never have reached this final version. For this reason he must be considered its responsible editor. As with any other collection this literature list has a subjective viewpoint and may be in some sense incomplete. We have however tried to be as complete as possible. The bibliography contains 4704 different publications by 6767 authors which were classified by 11839 descriptor entries.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Recent Perspectives on Management, International Trade, and Logistics by : Aytekin, Güner Koç

This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this era of globalization, entrepreneurship and its implications on international trade and supply chain management are becoming more critical. In today’s change-oriented and complex business environment, both entrepreneurs and managers need to keep up with the latest developments around them. With the help of globalization, it is getting more attractive for entrepreneurs to generate innovative ideas to run business both nationally and internationally. Competitive advantages and the key for sustainable growth for globally founded institutions lies behind effective supply chain management originating from a single idea about establishing a company and the process to the end goal of reaching consumers. This focus on entrepreneurship, business, and supply chain comes at a time when rapid technological advances are continually being made. The Handbook of Research on Recent Perspectives on Management, International Trade, and Logistics reveals the latest data based on research on the issues of entrepreneurship, innovation, contemporary management techniques, and global supply chain management. Chapters include topics such as the effective management of the supply chain, supply chain modeling, e-business solutions, digitalizing the supply chain process, e-business applications, and more. This book is ideal for managers, executives, supply chain specialists, entrepreneurs, business professionals, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the latest findings in international trade, management, logistics, and business.

Book Synopsis Mixed Integer Programming Algorithms for Site Selection and Other Fixed Charge Problems Having Capacity Constraints by : Paul Gray
Download or read book Mixed Integer Programming Algorithms for Site Selection and Other Fixed Charge Problems Having Capacity Constraints written by Paul Gray and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algorithms for solving site-selection and similar fixed charge problems with upper bound constraints are presented. The basic approach is to formulate the problem as a mixed integer program and to solve these programs by decomposing them into a master integer program and a series of subproblems which are linear programs. To reduce the number of vertices to be examined to manageable proportions, the bound-and-scan algorithm by F.S. Hillier was adapted to the fixed charge problem. Algorithms are presented for four classes of problems: (1) Fixed charge problem with linear variable costs and a fixed charge for each variable at non-zero level. (2) Problem 1 with separable concave or convex variable costs. (3) A warehouse location problem in which variable costs and constraints are of the transportation type. A fixed charge is associated with each warehouse opened. (4) The fixed charge transportation problem in which a fixed charge is associated with each route rather than with each warehouse. Computational results for Problems 1, 2, and 4 are presented. (Author).
Book Synopsis A New Optimization Method for Large-Scale Fixed Charge Transportation Problems by : Richard H. Barr
Download or read book A New Optimization Method for Large-Scale Fixed Charge Transportation Problems written by Richard H. Barr and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a branch-and-bound algorithm for solving fixed charge transportation problems where not all cells exist. The algorithm exploits the absence of full problem density in several ways, thus yielding a procedure which is especially applicable to solving real-world problems which are normally quite sparse. Additionally, streamlined new procedures for pruning the decision tree and calculating penalties are presented. We present computational experience with both a set of large test problems and a set of dense test problems from the literature. Comparisons with other codes are uniformly favorable to the new method, which runs more than twice as fast as the best alternative. (Author).
