Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These one hundred short poems with no names were written in the late winter and the spring of 2017 when we had a lot of rain in Northern California. That's why several of them speak about that time of year when there is the gray sky above and the wet earth below. It's also the time of year when a cup of hot tea and a piece of toast is a wonderful thing. Sometimes the simplest thing is the most satisfying. If you're having your tea with a piece of dry toast, and you're dunking it, there's no need to put jam or butter on it. To add the jam and butter would ruin the perfect balance between the toast and tea. It's complete. A cup of hot tea can do many things, depending upon how it is served. With milk and sugar, it's warm and comforting. Holding the cup in your hand is almost like holding the hand of your best friend. If green tea is served plain, it can stimulate your mind. If it's black tea with a slice of lemon, it can help you get over a cold or the flu. Tea is so simple, yet so beneficial. I hope you find these poems simple and complete, like dry toast in hot tea.

Book excerpt: I was born and raised in Central Florida, and married at a very young age. Shortly after marriage, I became the Mother of Two wonderful sons. 'Thus my education was put on hold until much later. After retiring form the field of Public Relations, I moved to the East Coast. Having always dreamed, of living this near to the ocean, I soon found so much of my inspirations here. I felt it was the key that unlocked all of what I had always dreamed of becoming, A published author. I never expected to jump out there at first with leaps and bounds, so I got my feet dampened first by writing poetry. I am also working on my first novel, (War's Amazing Grace), as well as children's book ('The Jessie GreenForest). I always felt that my life was moving much to fast, and soon learned a very important lesson, and that was, it doesn't matter how many Sheep Skins one may or may not have earned in their lifetime, there is no better education than what everyone of us receives from the "School Of Hard Knocks." Life gives to each of us an on-hand experience, a full Measure. We are soon taught that we have our own ways of dealing with what life may, or may not offer to us. Sometimes we must all try and deal with that part we have been handed to play out life's role. If we practiced hard on our own individual part's to play on life's stage, at the end of our final curtain call, who knows? We may all get that standing ovation, when in the very beginning started out to be, but a mere dream.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘It is like whispers to the soul.’ Life is like having a cup of tea. If your mug has too much sugar or the tea is not left to infuse, you wouldn’t want to drink it. In the same way, life is a fine mix of various degrees of emotional contentment, personal well-being, job satisfaction, and more. There are also two sides to a soothing cup of tea: you can serve it or accept it gracefully. Lisa M. Kendrick is an acclaimed author, poetry writer, and teacher and lives in the heart of Norfolk, Virginia, with her family. Serving Sweet Tea is an honest poetry collection about growth, heartbreak, love, and trauma. It is for those who love deeply, hurt easily, but also those who will continue to get up time and time again. To enjoy Lisa’s work, we must digest it slowly. The beauty of life lies in the journey, not the destination. Lisa Kendrick’s words empower us to appreciate the goodness in others, learn to make better choices, and experience the revolutionary feeling of trying something that we never have before. Serving Sweet Tea is a poem collection of heartbreak and love, but also empowerment, survival, and trying again.

Book excerpt: These short stories are set primarily in the farmland of County Antrim in Northern Ireland during the author’s youth in the nineteen forties and fifties, though there are related stories set in the U.S. and Canada. County Antrim has strong residual connections to Scotland that are reflected in the manner of speech and in the social values that the author experienced during his youth - hard work, religious belief and valuing family connections. Long before television entered the home, family and neighborhood get-togethers were common, often around a hearth-fire, especially in winter. An exchange of comment kept everyone abreast of happenings in the area though that often tripped into friendly gossip, especially of those whose life’s escapades set them apart from the accepted norm. The very human lives of these wholesome people, their sorrow, happiness, humor and futility are picturesquely captured in the author’s sensitive, homespun stories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Wilkins Freeman (1852–1930), born in Randolph, Massachusetts, began to publish stories about New England in the early 1880s. In the following decades, Freeman drew widespread praise for her intimate portraits of women and her realistic depictions of rural New England life. She published short stories, essays, novels, plays, and children’s books. Her stories, written in a clear and direct prose, are remarkable for their unpretentious, sympathetic portrayals of the lives of ordinary New Englanders of Freeman’s era. Many of the stories depict rebellion against oppressive social and private conditions. Others describe conflicting desires for independence and lasting relationships. This volume of twenty-eight stories is the first to provide a representative sample of Freeman’s finest work, from all phases of her career. It makes plain why Freeman (in the words of editor Mary R. Reichardt) is widely recognized as an important figure “in the history of American women’s fiction . . . and the development of the American short story.”
