Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Compendium of the Law and Practice of Vendors and Purchasers of Real Estate The object proposed by the author of the following pages has been to produce a work which, without being a mere elementary outline on the one hand, or a mere index of cases on the other, may supply the student with a concise and connected statement of the present law and practice affecting vendors and purchasers of real estate, and the practitioner with a portable book of reference to the recent, and the most important early authorities on the subject. The general arrangement is, so far as practicable, chronological: considering in regular order the several points which present themselves to notice in cases where an ordinary contract is completed, in the usual way, without litigation actual or threatened; and then discussing, under separate heads, the remedies of either party or his representatives, in cases where the opposite party refuses, neglects, or is unable to perform his agreement; and also the variations consequent on the sale being under a decree of the Court of Chancery. This order is believed to be best adapted to secure attention and aid the memory, and therefore the easiest for purposes of reference. Book Synopsis The Oxford Edition of Blackstone's: Commentaries on the Laws of England by : William Blackstone
Download or read book The Oxford Edition of Blackstone's: Commentaries on the Laws of England written by William Blackstone and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-04 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxford's variorum edition of William Blackstone's seminal treatise on the common law of England and Wales offers the definitive account of the Commentaries' development in a modern format. For the first time it is possible to trace the evolution of English law and Blackstone's thought through the eight editions of Blackstone's lifetime, and the authorial corrections of the posthumous ninth edition. Introductions by the general editor and the volume editors set the Commentaries in their historical context, examining Blackstone's distinctive view of the common law, and editorial notes throughout the four volumes assist the modern reader in understanding this key text in the Anglo-American common law tradition. Property law is the subject of Book II, the second and longest volume of Blackstone's Commentaries. His lucid exposition covers feudalism and its history, real estate and the forms of tenure that a land-owner may have, and personal property, including the new kinds of intangible property that were developing in Blackstone's era, such as negotiable instruments and intellectual property.
