Book Synopsis A Collection of Selected Words from the Bahá’í Writings in Persian, Arabic and English by : Hamed Eshraghian
Download or read book A Collection of Selected Words from the Bahá’í Writings in Persian, Arabic and English written by Hamed Eshraghian and published by Hamed Eshraghian. This book was released on 1989 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Collection of Selected Words contains more than 2,200 significant and commonly used Persian/Arabic words and phrases, with their corresponding English translation, that appear in the Baha'i Writings. The English translation of the Persian/Arabic word or phrase has been found by matching the words in the original Persian/ Arabic text with the same word or phrase in the published English translation of that same text. This method differs from consulting Persian to English or Arabic to English dictionaries to find the English equivalent of a Persian or Arabic word, taking advantage of the translator's research and insight in selecting the most appropriate translation for a particular context and meaning. In cases where the selected work has been translated by Shoghi Effendi, this method also enables us to follow the standard set by the beloved Guardian in his translations of those works. Furthermore, this method enables one to find the translation of complete phrases not normally found in dictionaries; therefore, every attempt has been made to include such phrases and special terms in this collection. Although a relatively small number of texts has been used in preparing this collection, it is hoped that it will be useful in the general study of the Baha'i Writings in both Persian/Arabic and English.

Book Synopsis Stories of Baha'u'llah by : ʻAlí-Akbar Furútan
Download or read book Stories of Baha'u'llah written by ʻAlí-Akbar Furútan and published by George Ronald Publisher Limited. This book was released on 1986 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baha'u'llah (1817-1892), the Inaugurator of the most recent of the independent world religions, the Baha'i Faith, has been described by the Guardian of that Faith as 'One Whom posterity will acclaim, and Whom innumerable followers already recognize, . . . as the Establisher of the Most Great Peace . . . and the Inspirer and Founder of a world civilization'. Few there are in the West who have known even one person who saw Him or experienced the majesty and power, the compassion, humility and humour which characterized His earthly life. Baha'is of the East are more fortunate, many having known those, often their relatives, who were in His presence as companions or pilgrims. Yet, as the editor of this book remarks, 'only a few recorded their observations for posterity'. It was in 1975 that 'the thought of collecting personal accounts' occurred to the Hand of the Cause 'Ali-Akbar Furutan. Through correspondence and the examination of numerous memoirs, published and in manuscript, he selected the stories in this enthralling collection. 'The day is approaching when God will have raised up a people who will call to remembrance Our days, ' wrote Baha'u'llah. The 144 stories in these pages make such remembrance both effortless and delightful. They come to mind whether one is far away or visiting the scenes in which they occurred. They describe Baha'u'llah in Iran, Baghdad, Constantinople, Adrianople, 'Akka and Bahji, and linger in memory to uplift and gladden both heart and mind.

Book Synopsis Women and Politics in Iran: Veiling, Unveiling and Reveiling by : Hamideh Sedghi
Download or read book Women and Politics in Iran: Veiling, Unveiling and Reveiling written by Hamideh Sedghi and published by . This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why were urban women veiled in the early 1900s, unveiled from 1936 to 1979, and reveiled after the 1979 revolution? This question forms the basis of Hamideh Sedghi's original and unprecedented contribution to politics and Middle Eastern studies. Using primary and secondary sources, Sedghi offers new knowledge on women's agency in relation to state power. In this rigorous analysis she places contention over women at the centre of the political struggle between secular and religious forces and demonstrates that control over women's identities, sexuality, and labor has been central to the consolidation of state power. Sedghi links politics and culture with economics to present an integrated analysis of the private and public lives of different classes of women and their modes of resistance to state power.
Book Synopsis Arabic Materials in English Translation by : Margaret Anderson
Download or read book Arabic Materials in English Translation written by Margaret Anderson and published by Hall Reference Books. This book was released on 1980 with total page 272 pages. A few of the transaltions listed here, most notably of those of writings by Hippocrates, Aristotle, and Galen, are not originally Arabic, but are translations made of Arabic editions....The aim of the compilaiton is two-fold: first, to provide both students and the general public with an interest in the Arab world (but with little or no facility in the Arabic language), as full a listing of translated Arabic materials as possible; and also to provide for those doing research in such fields as history and history of science, political science, comparative religion, comparative literature, and law, and touching on the Arab world only occasionally, with a partial substitute for the original materials whose language they have had no previous need to master.
