Book Synopsis Indigenous Struggle and the Bolivian National Revolution by : James Kohl
Download or read book Indigenous Struggle and the Bolivian National Revolution written by James Kohl and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indigenous Struggle and the Bolivian National Revolution: Land and Liberty! reinterprets the genesis and contours of the Bolivian National Revolution from an indigenous perspective. In a critical revision of conventional works, the author reappraises and reconfigures the tortuous history of insurrection and revolution, counterrevolution and resurrection, and overthrow and aftermath in Bolivia. Underlying the history of creole conflict between dictatorship and democracy lies another conflict – the unrelenting 500-year struggle of the conquered indigenous peoples to reclaim usurped lands, resist white supremacist dominion, and seize autonomous political agency. The book utilizes a wide array of sources, including interviews and documents to illuminate the thoughts, beliefs, and objectives of an extraordinary cast of indigenous revolutionaries, giving readers a firsthand look at the struggles of the subaltern majority against creole elites and Anglo-American hegemons in South America’s most impoverished nation. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of modern Latin American history, peasant movements, the history of U.S. foreign relations, revolutions, counterrevolutions, and revolutionary warfare.

Download or read book Geopedology written by Joseph Alfred Zinck and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-30 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This updated and revised second edition brings geopedology issues into the current context. This new edition extends the work on popular topics such as digital soil mapping, GIS and landscape mapping, and it also gives valuable insight with up-to-date theoretical discussions and new application with relevant case studies. This textbook offers a proven approach for reliable mapping of soil-landscape relationships to derive information for policy, planning and management at scales ranging from local to regional. Filled with didactic elements such as case studies, visual aids (maps, charts and figures), questions and answers, the book is of interest to geohazard studies, land use conflict analysis, land use planning, land degradation assessment, and land suitability analysis. Soil is a vital resource for society at large and an important determinant of the economic status of nations. The intensification of natural disasters and the increased land use competition for food and energy have raised awareness of the relevant role the pedosphere plays in natural and anthropogenic environments. Recent papers and global initiatives show a renewed interest in soil research and its applications for improved planning and management of this fragile and finite resource.

Download or read book Bolivia written by World Bank and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bolivia has inadequate institutions on which farmers can rely for technical advice. The scope for improvement appears to be considerable, however, if appropriate technologies are generated and diffused. Government intervention has been haphazard, resulting in a poorly defined pricing and investment policy. For pricing policy, this report recommends that the government: (i) create a unit to design pricing policies for items it intends to control and to publish these prices; (ii) discontinue setting prices which have been unenforceable; (iii) use border prices as a reference point for fixing domestic producer prices; (iv) dissolve the bodies responsible for purchasing cereals at official producer prices; (v) phase out the subsidy on wheat; (vi) lift regulations restricting the sugar cane producing sector; (vii) remove export regulations; (viii) investigate transferring some agroindustries to the private sector; and (ix) abolish price regulations for competitive agro-based commodities. Investment strategy should specify the role of domestic executing agencies, the coordinating mechanisms between institutions, the resources needed, and the contribution of each project to the overall strategy.
