Book excerpt: When Canada went to war with Japan following the bombing of Pearl Harbour, Canadians of Japanese descent were declared "Enemy Aliens." Without recourse of any kind, they were forced to leave their homes along with the British Columbia coast, their possessions were sold, and their rights as citizens denied. Caged Eagles follows fourteen-year-old Tadashi Fukushima and his family as they embark on a tortuous physical and emotional journey. Along with neighbours from their remote village on the northern BC coast, they travel by fishing boat to Vancouver, where they are placed in detention in Hastings Park, the Pacific National Exhibition ground, and forced to live in cattle stalls. For Tadashi detention becomes both an adventure and a dilemma as he struggles to understand the undercurrents of racism and injustice that have overtaken his life and those of his community.

Book excerpt: A follow-up to the best-selling A Cage of Eagles ? stories from No. 1 PoW Camp (Officers) Grizedale Hall in the Lake District It is now 1942 and the quickening pace of the war brings new problems for the senior German officer, U-boat ""ace"" Otto Kruger. The PoW officers under his command are becoming increasingly impatient with his autocratic regime, which forbids all escape bids unless they've been properly planned. The stories range from the grim, such as ""Unlucky"" Moehe ? a U-boat officer desperate to get home with priceless information on the operational trials of Germany's new acoustic torpedo, to the tragic when Kruger refuses to allow his fellow officers to be shackled, to the bizarre when the PoWs secretly fatten up a stolen pig. The battle of wits between Kruger and his captors draws together such diverse characters as Ian Fleming and Beatrix Potter in a story that has the British in the unfamiliar roles of guards and captors. It is a battle that the Germans fight with fortitude, determination, and humour.

Book excerpt: New York Times Bestseller: The “extraordinary” true story of a golden eagle adopted by a California ranching family, and how she changed their lives (Delia Ephron). In 1955, Ed Durden brought a baby golden eagle home to his ranch in California, where she would stay for the next sixteen years. As her bond with Ed and the Durden family grew, the eagle, named Lady, displayed a fierce intelligence and strong personality. She learned quickly, had a strong mothering instinct (even for other species), and never stopped surprising those who cared for her. An eight-week New York Times bestseller, Gifts of an Eagle is a fascinating up-close look at one of the most majestic creatures in nature, as well as a heartwarming family story and “an affectionate, unsentimental tribute” (Kirkus Reviews).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are not afraid to say that we are fascinated by birds. Flying birds always provoke human admiration. There is this unexplained mysterious feeling that surrounds us when watching birds on the forest trees, in our backyard, at the ocean, sea, or lake. Birds are an infinite treasure of inspiration for humans, waking us up in the morning with beautiful birdsongs. Their little brain is of a size of an unshelled walnut and is associated with intelligent behavior and the same capabilities of humans and apes’ mental tasks. When you think about all the animals in the world, you quickly realize that birds are, in fact, among some of the most intelligent creatures we have on earth. Although there are more than ten thousand bird species worldwide, only a handful of them have made the list for the extremely talented and incredibly intelligent. So who are these super intelligent feathered friends? It is difficult to pick one. Perhaps kea, ravens, and crows are equally smart; while macaws, cockatoo, and jays are on the top of any list too. Who knew that an African gray is capable of working out the location of hidden food by using the kind of deduction and elimination skills previously seen only in humans and apes? And as you probably have heard, they are exceptional talkers! Today, we all know that it is bad to imprison birds in cages, but it was not always the case throughout the history. According to Stephen King, “Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild.” Due to beautiful poetry and cultural expressions, the flying bird became a symbol of freedom and independence. There are cases of historic acknowledgment of birdcages, especially in the Victorian era. People were listening to birdsongs in cages as it was their radio entertainment outlet. During wartimes, birds demonstrated their unique abilities in courageous heroic efforts to help humans in transferring information through the battlefields. The birds and birdcages both have a longtime history. Our love for the amazing earth creatures makes us stand out for their protection and safety to enjoy our shared inhabitants on the planet, and as for the birdcages, people find them pretty appealing in various ways of the aesthetic repurposing.

Colm Djandhi guides his siblings to the mountains of glory, where they hide the magic sword in a cave, before joining other Rungans displaced in remote forests. The growing power of the Spears poses a major threat to the Lords, their long-time enemies. However, the Spears get a dose of their own medicine when Gustavo Payoyub, President of Dandy, threatens their increasing power with a force ten times stronger than the Spears. The Spears also fear a coalition of the Lords and the Rungans. Together, they would be too powerful to ward off. To prevent the worst case scenario, the Spears force the Rungans to the front line to act as human shields against the President's army, hoping their single-handed defense would wipe the Rungans out, along with any possible alliance with the Lords. The desperate Rungans must overcome fear and helplessness in this imposed role. They have to fight for survival. To do this, they task Colm with training the makeshift army on traditional weapons. Once at the battlefield, the Rungans are blessed with supernatural powers. They obliterate the Lords entirely and come looking for the Spears.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YESTERDAY IS OVER; IT ENDED AT MIDNIGHT It’s time to wake up into the newness of Christ Jesus, through relationship with your savior. May the principles in this book dare to change you mindset, actions, and overall, be enthusiastic about a lifestyle transformation. Most of the church is still locked in a time warp of self-defeating behavior. Therefore, as a church, we have become stationary and not missionary. I pray that the blessing attached to this book help you to find the proper roadmap back to Christ and answer many questions you are in pursuit of. It provides and overview of the complexity that we must come back to in order to build a true relationship with Christ. We must not continue to hide behind the walls of the Church and faking our way through life. We are using the church as a metaphor to run from life. And we really have not developed a real relationship with Christ, but we have switched drugs. Now, you have taken a hit off the new drug called church business! And we’re taking this new drug as a drug replacement for addictive behavior that really has not gone away. Never before in the history of the church has there been a cry out from heaven for the true church to come back under subjection unto itself. Not the four walls of the building—I mean YOU! Therefore life becomes and experiment, instead of a purpose driven life designed by God himself. This book was insured by God and has a powerful healing and restoration wrapped up in every fiber. Every word pierces the heart and touches the very depths of the soul. Come take a journey with me as we truly confront, layer by layer, of how we became Born into Greatness and Lost in Identity. Like Lazarus, we are commanded to come forth into the newness of Christ. May your life never ever be the same. May the rest of your life be the best of our life in the mighty, unmatched, and majestic name of Jesus. Amen!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few generals proved themselves better than Scanderbeg. Leader of a small army of Eagles, at the height of its power, he single-handedly could be said to have saved Europe from the jaws of the Ottoman Dragon, when a heartless Mehmed II, the Conqueror, had already captured Constantinople and wanted to carry Rome to achieve universal victory over Christianity. He would have achieved his purpose had not Scanderbeg, an Albanian Christian General, not put an obstacle to his march in Albania, for about a quarter of a century. After Scanderbeg’s death, the Albanians continued their resistance for another decade. Thus, Mehmed II was delayed long enough to thwart his plans. He managed only to start his Italian invasion, and when he died his mission died with him. World-famous individuals, painters, like Bellini and Durer, composers like Vivaldi and Francœur, philosophers like Voltaire, poets and writers like Longfellow, Byron, and Holberg, generals like Wolfe, and popes like Paul II, have all been generous enough to dedicate a part of their work to this great general. Yet, surprisingly many historians have maintained silence about Scanderbeg’s fame as a general. This ingratitude brings pause to any with the knowledge regarding such a great general, one who met such success and performed so brilliantly as to be recognized among the greatest generals of all time. He was the principal deterrent in stopping the Ottoman expansion westward and in that, he was the true defender of Christendom from the danger of becoming totally Ottomanized. If, for such great deeds, he does not deserve to be mentioned in world history, who does?
