Many children are growing up without experiencing the security of their parents' love and commitment—and as a result are finding it harder to receive God's unconditional love. There is an urgent need to invest in marriage and family life, for strong societies are built on strong families, and strong families are built on strong marriages. The Marriage Book, developed by Nicky and Sila Lee of Alpha, has been revised and updated to address these needs and provides practical tools to help couples at every stage of their relationship. Along with the companion seven-session Marriage Course, this resource will help couples: Better understand each other's needs Communicate more effectively Grow closer by learning methods to resolve conflicts Recover from the way they may have hurt each other Recognize how their upbringing has affected their relationship Improve relationships with parents and in-laws The Marriage Book is based on a Christian understanding of love and serves to strengthen marriages within the church while, at the same time, being accessible for all couples from any cultural background. Full of practical advice, it will help couples prepare, build, and even mend their marriages.

Book excerpt: Marriage H. G. Wells - Happy is good. Holy is better.Your marriage is in excess of a sacrosanct pledge with someone else. It is an otherworldly discipline intended to assist you with knowing God better, trust him all the more completely, and love him all the more profoundly. Consider the possibility that God's essential expectation for your marriage isn't to fulfill you . . . yet, heavenly?Sacrosanct Marriage doesn't simply offer procedures to make a marriage more joyful. It contains reasonable devices, yet what wedded Christians most need is help in becoming holier married couples. Consecrated Marriage offers that assistance with bits of knowledge from Scripture, church history, dependable insight from Christian works of art, and models from the present relationships.Sacrosanct Marriage uncovers how marriage trains us to adore God and others well, how it uncovered sin and makes us more mindful of God's essence, how acceptable relationships encourage great supplication, how hitched sex takes care of the profound life, and then some. The reexamined release of Sacred Marriage considers the ways people's jobs have extended since the book was first composed. It has been smoothed out to be a quicker perused without losing the profundity that such countless perusers have esteemed.Holy Marriage uncovers the secret of God's general reason. This book might just adjust significantly the shapes of your marriage. It will unquestionably transform you. Since whether it is wonderful or troublesome, your marriage can turn into an entryway to a nearer walk with God, and to an otherworldly trustworthiness that, similar to salt, seasons your general surroundings with the relish of Christ. And was originally published in 1912.Herbert George Wells was born on September 21st, 1866 at Atlas House, 46 High Street, Bromley, Kent. He was the youngest of four siblings and his family affectionately knew him as Bertie. The first few years of his childhood were spent fairly quietly, and Wells didnt display much literary interest until, in 1874, he accidentally broke his leg and was left to recover in bed, largely entertained by the library books his father regularly brought him. Through these Wells found he could escape the boredom and misery of his bed and convalescence by exploring the new worlds he encountered in these books. From these humble beginnings began a career that was, after several delays, to be seen as one of the most brilliant of modern English writers. Able to write comfortably in a number of genres he was especially applauded for his science fiction works such as The Time Machine and War of the Worlds but his forays into the social conditions of the times, with classics such as Kipps, were almost as commercially successful. His short stories are miniature masterpieces many of which bring new and incredible ideas of science fiction to the edge of present day science fact. Wells also received four nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Despite a strong and lasting second marriage his affairs with other women also brought the complications of fathering other children. His writings and work against fascism, as well as the promotion of socialism, brought him into increasing doubts with and opposition to religion. His writings on what the world could be in works, such as A Modern Utopia, are thought provoking as well as being plausible, especially when viewed from the distressing times they were written in. His diabetic condition pushed him to create what is now the largest Diabetes charity in the United Kingdom. Wells even found the time to run twice for Parliament. It was a long, distinguished and powerfully successful career by the time he died, aged 79, on August 13th, 1946.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All marriage relationships to one degree or another have strife. Most of the time they are hidden, masked, or just not shared with our mate, the one person who matters the most, what has happened? This book is scripturally based on what I believe God has shown me over our many years of marriage (45,) and our counseling experience. How His word is to be applied to the marriage relationship in the various areas husbands and wives find themselves, including the children, the extended families and our own personal and business lifestyle. My hope is to give those struggling, hope! And some tools that can help them overcome whatever the circumstance (problem) is. The biggest tool of course is God, and how much we will allow Him to touch our heart. Hopefully, we will come to the realization we are to conform to His way and not Him to ours. I do believe the problem is not the marriage that needs to be worked on, but the husband and wife that must work out their individual issues (baggage prior to marriage) with counselors, through learned communication and other materials. Are you willing to change?

Book excerpt: Until just yesterday, no society--monogamous or polygamous—had defined marriage as anything other than a male-female union. With clear and cogent arguments, What Is Marriage? explains the rational basis of this historic consensus. It defeats the arguments for recognizing same-sex partnerships as marriages and shows how doing so would harm the common good. Originally published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, this book’s core argument quickly became the year’s most widely read essay of more than 300,000 scholarly articles posted on the Social Sciences Research Network. Now expanded to address a flurry of prominent responses, What Is Marriage? stands poised to meet its moment as few books of this generation have. If the marriage debate in America is decided in the next few years, it will be either with this book’s help, or despite its powerful arguments. Rhodes Scholar Sherif Girgis, Princeton University professor Robert P. George, and Ryan T. Anderson, editor of the online journal Public Discourse, provide a devastating critique of the claim that equality requires redefining marriage. They point out that any assessment of what “marriage equality” demands depends on first determining what marriage is—what sort of relationships must be treated as essentially the same. They defend the principle that marriage, as a comprehensive union ordered to family life, requires a man and a woman. And they argue for the great social benefits of enshrining this principle in law. Most compellingly, they show that those who embrace same-sex civil marriage leave themselves no firm ground—none—for not recognizing as marriages every relationship type describable in polite English, including multiple-partner (“polyamorous”) sexual unions. Finally, What Is Marriage? decisively answer common objections: that the historic view is rooted in bigotry (like laws forbidding interracial marriage); that it is callous to people’s needs; that it can’t show the harm of recognizing same-sex couplings, or the point of recognizing infertile ones; and that it treats a mere “social construct” as if it were natural, or an unreasoned religious view as if it were rational.

Book excerpt: Meditate on the Spiritual Significance of Marriage In the 20th Anniversary Edition of this Gold Medallion Award winner, Mike Mason goes on a poetic search to understand the wondrous dynamics of committed love. In highly readable, first-person style, Mason's writing stimulates readers' thoughts and prayers and propels couples to deeper intimacy. "A marriage is not a joining of two worlds," says the author, "but an abandoning of two worlds in order that one new one might be formed." Rich chapters on "Otherness," "Vows," "Intimacy," "Sex," "Submission," and an all-new chapter on "Oneness" lift readers to view the eternal, spiritual nature of this faith-filled, "impossible," wild-yet wonderful-frontier. "The two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery." Ephesians 5:3132 Beautifully written and filled with life-transforming insights, the 20th anniversary edition of Mike Mason's unparalleled Gold Medallion winner explores the mystical and holy nature of marriage with a depth that will forever alter how a couple relates to each other-and to God. The Mystery of Marriage stands out from how-to manuals on marriage as a refreshing how-come book-a brilliant celebration of the God-ordained union between man and wife. "An outstanding achievement. Rarely has a book aroused in me so much enthusiasm as has the combination of wisdom, depth, dignity, and glow that I find in these chapters." -J.I. Packer "Absolutely exquisite. It reaches down deep into our innermost being, revealing, revitalizing, rewarding. A real classic." -Gigi Graham Tchividjian "A drop everything book. Mason deals with the stunning paradoxes of the mystery, the problems, and the glories of marriage. I don't need to read any other book on the subject." -Elisabeth Elliot Story Behind the Book Over the twenty years since its publication, many couples have told me that they've read my book aloud to each other. This always amazes me and gives me great joy. I'm also amazed that many single people have read it. Either way, my goal is for hearts to be warmed by the mystery of divine love. I want couples to enter into deeper intimacy by thinking together about the mystery of marriage -about how their love, besides being a gift of God, reflects the very love He has for Himself in the Trinity. For God is not a bachelor, and throughout the Bible marriage is a supreme picture of the nature of God's love and of His kingdom. I want people who read my book to feel so soaked in these wonderful, divine mysteries that it deepens their reverence for marriage and inspires them to greater love

Book excerpt: WEB TEXT (word count 431) Marriage: The Rules of The Game This book is not overly religious but I emphatically believe that God is the "MARRIAGE MAKER", and just like a systems designer would do, He has created a manual of operation. The Bible is full of practical helps right there for the taking. Again it was a thrilling challenge for me to write another book that speaks plainly to the married, and those looking to get married. A second challenge in writing this book, as in the previous book, Marriage: The Corridors, Castles, and Conflicts, we share meaningful real-life examples that will help others avoid stumbling blindly into marital ditches. I am careful when personal stories are shared. Names have been changed and situations altered to protect identities. I have spent over 30 years in marriage counseling. My thirst in all those years has been to research and develop tools and materials that will help marriages work better. We've always used opportunities to share a practical biblical message, by creating marriage videos, booklets, workshop materials, and sharing in marriage seminars around the country. One message rings throughout our presentations: there are spiritual factors called principles that effect what we do and how we do it. So this second book joins with our many other presentations in striving to wrap theological principles around real-life illustrations. Hopefully readers will find that this project is easy reading, and substantially solid intellectually, with tasteful humor.
