Book excerpt: The Singapore Law Review is an independent legal publication body, exclusively run by students of the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law. The Review's illustrious history began in 1959, with the pioneer publication of the student-run legal journal titled Me Judice in the University of Malaya. Following the independence of Singapore in 1965, the journal was subsequently renamed the Singapore Law Review in 1969. Apart from a publication hiatus between 1972 and 1979, the Singapore Law Review has been published annually ever since. Each Volume of the Journal features between six to eight articles written by Justices of the Supreme Court, eminent scholars, legal practitioners, and law students from Singapore and abroad. The topics of the publications similarly cover a wide range from the study of jurisprudence, to cutting-edge empirical research on legal matters, to discussions about recent legal developments, both locally and internationally. Our strict editorial process ensures that the articles found in the Journal meet the highest benchmark of legal writing.
Book Synopsis Essays in Singapore Legal History by : Kevin Tan
Download or read book Essays in Singapore Legal History written by Kevin Tan and published by Marshall Cavendish Academic. This book was released on 2005 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this volume are the result of an exhibition on legal history staged by the Singapore Academy of Law in 1995. After that exhibition, a Legal History Sub-Committee was established within the Academy to look into ways of promoting the general awareness of the roots of legal practice in Singapore. It was decided that an illustrated collection of essays on selected legal history subjects might provide the right launchpad. This book aims not only to bring the fascinating world of legal history to a much wider audience, but also to act as a springboard for future study and research. If anything, it represents the beginning of a quest to making legal history a living subject.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Launched in 1991, the Asian Yearbook of International Law is a major internationally-refereed yearbook dedicated to international legal issues as seen primarily from an Asian perspective. It is published under the auspices of the Foundation for the Development of International Law in Asia (DILA) in collaboration with DILA-Korea, the Secretariat of DILA, in South Korea. When it was launched, the Yearbook was the first publication of its kind, edited by a team of leading international law scholars from across Asia. It provides a forum for the publication of articles in the field of international law and other Asian international legal topics. The objectives of the Yearbook are two-fold: First, to promote research, study and writing in the field of international law in Asia; and second, to provide an intellectual platform for the discussion and dissemination of Asian views and practices on contemporary international legal issues. Each volume of the Yearbook contains articles and shorter notes; a section on Asian state practice; an overview of the Asian states’ participation in multilateral treaties and succinct analysis of recent international legal developments in Asia; a bibliography that provides information on books, articles, notes, and other materials dealing with international law in Asia; as well as book reviews. This publication is important for anyone working on international law and in Asian studies. The 2019 edition is the Yearbook's 25th volume. To commemorate this achievement, this volume has two reflective articles: the first article presents the history of DILA and its flagship publication, this Yearbook; and the second article provides an overview of the Yearbook's State Practice section beginning with volume 1 to volume 24.

Book Synopsis New Perspectives on the Japanese Occupation in Malaya and Singapore, 1941-1945 by : Yōji Akashi
Download or read book New Perspectives on the Japanese Occupation in Malaya and Singapore, 1941-1945 written by Yōji Akashi and published by NUS Press. This book was released on 2008-12-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information on the Japanese Occupation of Malaya and Singapore is sparse, and Japanese-language materials are particularly difficult to find because the Japanese military systematically destroyed war-related documents when the war ended. The contributors to this volume participated in a Forum that spent four years locating surviving materials relating to the Occupation of Malaya. The group has three objectives: to collect primary sources, to interview Japanese military and civilian officials who took part in the military administration and people in Malaysia and Singapore who experienced the period, and to publish the results of the studies. Based on interviews with Japanese, Malaysians and Singaporeans who lived through the war years and materials gathered from archives and libraries in Britain, Malaysia, Singapore, USA, Australia, and India, the Forum has produced a number of Japanese-language publications. This book makes available some of their research findings in English. Topics covered include the Watanabe Military Administration, Japanese research activities in Malaya, Japan's Economic Policies, Malayan Communist Party Leaders and the Anti-Japanese Resistance, the Massacre of Chinese in Singapore, Railway Transportation during the Japanese Occupation Period, The Singapore internment Camp for Allied Civilian Women, and the Japanese Surrender. This volume is a revised version of Akashi Yoji, ed., Nippon Senryoka no Eiryo Maraya/Shingaporu (Tokyo: Iwanami Shoten Publishers, 2001). Book jacket.
