Book Synopsis 70 Times 7 Math: Geometry Classwork/Homework for Middle and High School Students by : 70 Times 7 Math
Download or read book 70 Times 7 Math: Geometry Classwork/Homework for Middle and High School Students written by 70 Times 7 Math and published by . This book was released on 2022-02-02 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classwork/homework book supplements Geometry Textbook for Middle and High School Students, by 70 Times 7 Math. The assignments are meant to provide students individual practice solving problems taught in their textbooks and to equip them to do well on the corresponding tests. There are four classwork assignments to help prepare students for each exam. (Computer-based tests and practice tests are available through the Habakkuk Educational Materials website. See pages 5-6 for details. Answer keys to this book can also be purchased from the website.) Students should complete one of the assignments weekly and then take the test at the end of the fifth week. For homework the 5th week, they can correct any errors from previous assignments or work on a computer-based practice test. It is recommended that students be allowed to correct any errors from a homework assignment before the final grade is calculated, as this tends to help them to do better on the tests. (When using the computer-based tests and practice tests, the grades are calculated automatically.) Each week's classwork will be in the same format as the test. If there are, let's say, 100 problems on an upcoming test, students would complete all 100 of those types of problems each week for four weeks, although the answers to corresponding problems will differ from one week to the next. Questions included on the classwork and tests are not randomly selected from the chapters in focus. Instead, they are very comprehensive in that every type of problem students learn about in their textbook or complete as a class on the interactive whiteboard will also be solved individually by students on the classwork assignments and corresponding tests. Moreover, page numbers where students can turn to for help in their textbooks are specified on the footnotes of each page, and tutorial videos are available in the electronic textbooks. Time should be allotted daily for students to work on these assignments. To contact Habakkuk Educational Materials, please visit the website below at https://www.habakkuk.net/.

Book Synopsis Geometry Textbook for Middle and High School Students by : 70 Times 7 Math
Download or read book Geometry Textbook for Middle and High School Students written by 70 Times 7 Math and published by . This book was released on 2022-02 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometry Textbook for Middle and High School Students by 70 Times 7 Math, is, as suggested by the title, appropriate for both middle and high school students. If you are following the suggested schedule for teaching the 70 Times 7 Math curriculum, this book would first be studied by 8th-grade students and then restudied by 10th graders. You can review the table of contents to note the wide variety of subjects students will learn about in this book. It essentially covers the same material you would expect to find in any other geometry textbook for middle and high school students but in fewer pages and with an approach that is easier to understand. Please do note that while only one textbook is needed, the classwork/homework books and other materials that supplement the textbook are sold separately (see page 9 for more information). Note that tests for students in grades 6th-12th in the 70 Times 7 Math program are only available through enrollment in an LMS. (Please see pages 14-15 for enrollment information.) If you prefer, one of the classwork/homework assignments could instead be used for testing purposes. Both computer-based tests and practice tests specially designed to assess a student's knowledge of the information covered in this book are available. The computer will notify students if an answer is correct or incorrect, and their grades will be displayed after completing a test. One of the most unique things about this curriculum is the design of the textbook pages. The design provides an organized and time-efficient way of introducing new problems and of reviewing what has already been learned. There are colorful illustrations to help students learn about angles, triangles and other polygons, polyhedrons, circles, spheres, area, surface area, volume, trigonometry, and much more. For more information about this book, including the electronic versions available for teachers to guide students through the material and the electronic versions for students where tutorial videos are available, please see the preface following the table of contents or visit the website of Habakkuk Educational Materials at https://www.habakkuk.net/.

There will be 4 to 6 comprehensive tests administered yearly to elementary school students. Four tests are available for students in grades kindergarten through 2nd, while students in grades 3rd through 5th have six tests to complete. Since students are tested over every type of problem included in their textbook, some of these comprehensive tests may take more than one class period to complete if you have a fixed amount of time for math each day. Book Synopsis Mathematics Learning in Early Childhood by : National Research Council
Download or read book Mathematics Learning in Early Childhood written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-11-13 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early childhood mathematics is vitally important for young children's present and future educational success. Research demonstrates that virtually all young children have the capability to learn and become competent in mathematics. Furthermore, young children enjoy their early informal experiences with mathematics. Unfortunately, many children's potential in mathematics is not fully realized, especially those children who are economically disadvantaged. This is due, in part, to a lack of opportunities to learn mathematics in early childhood settings or through everyday experiences in the home and in their communities. Improvements in early childhood mathematics education can provide young children with the foundation for school success. Relying on a comprehensive review of the research, Mathematics Learning in Early Childhood lays out the critical areas that should be the focus of young children's early mathematics education, explores the extent to which they are currently being incorporated in early childhood settings, and identifies the changes needed to improve the quality of mathematics experiences for young children. This book serves as a call to action to improve the state of early childhood mathematics. It will be especially useful for policy makers and practitioners-those who work directly with children and their families in shaping the policies that affect the education of young children.

Book Synopsis Rethinking Grading by : Cathy Vatterott
Download or read book Rethinking Grading written by Cathy Vatterott and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grading systems often reward on-time task completion and penalize disorganization and bad behavior. Despite our best intentions, grades seem to reflect student compliance more than student learning and engagement. In the process, we inadvertently subvert the learning process. After careful research and years of experiences with grading as a teacher and a parent, Cathy Vatterott examines and debunks traditional practices and policies of grading in K–12 schools. She offers a new paradigm for standards-based grading that focuses on student mastery of content and gives concrete examples from elementary, middle, and high schools. Rethinking Grading will show all educators how standards-based grading can authentically reflect student progress and learning—and significantly improve both teaching and learning. Cathy Vatterott is an education professor and researcher at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a former middle school teacher and principal, and a parent of a college graduate. She has learned from her workshops that "grading continues to be the most contentious part . . . conjuring up the most intense emotions and heated disagreements." Vatterott is also the author of the book Rethinking Homework: Best Practices That Support Diverse Needs.

Download or read book Helping Children Learn Mathematics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-07-31 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results from national and international assessments indicate that school children in the United States are not learning mathematics well enough. Many students cannot correctly apply computational algorithms to solve problems. Their understanding and use of decimals and fractions are especially weak. Indeed, helping all children succeed in mathematics is an imperative national goal. However, for our youth to succeed, we need to change how we're teaching this discipline. Helping Children Learn Mathematics provides comprehensive and reliable information that will guide efforts to improve school mathematics from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The authors explain the five strands of mathematical proficiency and discuss the major changes that need to be made in mathematics instruction, instructional materials, assessments, teacher education, and the broader educational system and answers some of the frequently asked questions when it comes to mathematics instruction. The book concludes by providing recommended actions for parents and caregivers, teachers, administrators, and policy makers, stressing the importance that everyone work together to ensure a mathematically literate society.
