Book Synopsis Handbook of Isotopologue Biogeochemistry by : Naohiro Yoshida
Download or read book Handbook of Isotopologue Biogeochemistry written by Naohiro Yoshida and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-04-26 with total page 1200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook looks into the latest scientific achievements in the observation, technical development, theory, and application of isotopologues. Isotopes have been used to trace material cycles in the solar system, planets, atmosphere, oceans, terrestrial environment, biosphere, and also the interior of living organisms. Isotopic research has developed from the determination of the bulk content of a single isotope ratio to multi-isotope, mass independent fractionation (MIF) of oxygen and sulfur isotopes, doubly isotope-substituted species, and site-specific isotopic signatures at natural isotopic abundance levels using several novel analytical techniques. The study of isotopologues has an increasing number of applications in many scientific fields ranging from earth and planetary sciences, environmental studies including climate change to life sciences relevant to many areas of interest for human activities such as agriculture, food authentication, pharmacology, and health care diagnosis. This handbook is structured so that is appropriate for both graduate students and professionals in diverse scientific and engineering communities devoted to related fields.

Book Synopsis Biological Timekeeping: Clocks, Rhythms and Behaviour by : Vinod Kumar
Download or read book Biological Timekeeping: Clocks, Rhythms and Behaviour written by Vinod Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a concise, comprehensive and up-to-date account of fundamental concepts and potential applications of biological timekeeping mechanisms in animals and humans. It also discusses significant aspects of the organization and importance of timekeeping mechanisms in both groups. Divided into seven sections, it addresses important aspects including fundamental concepts; animal and human clocks; clock interactions; clocks and metabolism and immune functions; pineal, melatonin and timekeeping; and clocks, photoperiodism and seasonal behaviours. The book also focuses on biological clock applications in a 24x7 human society, particularly in connection with life-style associated disorders like obesity and diabetes. It is a valuable resource for advanced undergraduates, researchers and professionals engaged in the study of the science of biological timekeeping.
Book Synopsis Toxicology of Pesticides by : Lucio G. Costa
Download or read book Toxicology of Pesticides written by Lucio G. Costa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The protection of human health and food and fiber resources against the ravages of pests of many sorts is a continuous struggle by all people in the world. The use of chemical pesticides as an aid in this struggle is now also global. These chemicals are deliberately added to the environment for the purpose of killing or injuring some form of life. Because pesticides are generally less selectively toxic than would be desired, non-target species, including humans, must be protected from injury by these chemicals. This can only be achieved by thorough understanding of the comparative toxicology of these compounds, and by minimizing human (and other desirable species) exposure. The latter can only be achieved by sound regulatory policies that utilize scientific principles and data, properly tempered by both gaps in that data and sociologic and economic considerations. This book contains the proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Toxicology of Pesticides: Experimental, Clinical and Regulatory Perspectives" held in Riva del Garda on October 6-15, 1986. This NATO-ASI has been promoted by the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of Washington at Seattle, by the Institute of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milano and by the Giovanni Lorenzini Foundation, and has been sponsored by both the Society of Toxicology (USA) and the Italian Society of Toxicology.
