An overtime period. Another overtime period. Yet another overtime period. A sellout crowd in a celebrated arena. Fans rushing the court. One of those fans attacking an official. A National Basketball Association game between the Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics 45 years ago had all of those things and more. This is the story of what is widely regarded as “The Greatest Game Ever Played,” Game 5 of the 1976 NBA Finals. In 1996, Classic Sports Network (now ESPN Classic) polled NBA writers, and they voted the contest as the greatest single game in the then 50-year history of the league. Played exactly one month before the nation’s bicentennial celebration, the game began just after 9 p.m. on Friday night, June 4, but due to its length, spilled over into Saturday, June 5. It was played in the historic Boston Garden before a crowd of 15,320. The Celtics won 128-126 in triple overtime. There were so many twists and turns during the game. The Celtics had greats like John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Jo White, and ex-Sun Charlie Scott. The Suns were led by Gar Heard, Paul Westphal, and Rookie of the Year Alvan Adams. There were many thrilling NBA games prior to June 4, 1976, and there have been many since, but I believe this Phoenix-Boston classic will continue to stand the test of time as “The Greatest Game Ever Played.”

This book was released on 2017 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1927 until his death in 1979, E.F. Joseph documented the daily lives of African Americans in the Bay Area. His images were printed in the Pittsburgh Courier and the Chicago Defender but not widely published in his home community. A graduate of the American School of Photography in Illinois, Joseph photographed the likes of such celebrities and activists as Josephine Baker, Mahalia Jackson, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Thurgood Marshall. However, what is perhaps more compelling within these pages are the countless images of everyday citizens--teaching, entertaining, worshipping, working, and serving their community and their nation.

Reflecting on his playing days with the Detroit Pistons, Washington Bullets, and Boston Celtics, Bing takes readers inside the exciting world of pro basketball at the moment when sensational athletes were turning a low-budget game into a high-powered, multi-million dollar entertainment spectacle. From inside the Detroit mayor's office, he offers a first-hand look at the city's plight, including intractable debt and corruption, massive unemployment, woeful city services and infrastructure, and the daily choices between the lesser of evils"--
Download or read book King of Comedy written by Mack Sennett and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-04-11 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of Mack Sennett, one the world’s most influential entertainers. Based on interviews with Mr. Sennett and persons associated with the master comedian, King of Comedy begins with Sennett’s birth on January 17, 1880 in a province of Quebec. The story invites the reader to follow Sennett through his childhood, his many entertainment experiences, his personal life highlighted by his relationship with Mabel Normand, his creation of masterpieces such as Keystone Cops and his discoveries of unforgettable entertainers such as Charlie Chaplin. As he states in his final chapter, Mack Sennett strives to, “…tell about the comedies and how we made them, and about the funny fellows and the pretty girls who acted in them. They are a lost breed. Their like may never, walk, tumble, or pratt-fall again.” And the same holds true for the likes of a man such as Mack Sennett.
