Book Synopsis Handbook of American Private Schools by :
Download or read book Handbook of American Private Schools written by and published by . This book was released on 1927 with total page 1240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook aims to be a guide to the best private schools of the country. It has been undertaken with the parent especially in mind, but it is hoped that it may be of value to school and college authorities and all others interested in the subject. It is believed that this Handbook is the first volume which attempts a critical and discriminating treatment of the private schools of the country. It is an endeavor to classify the schools on their merits -- at least a step, it is hoped, toward eventual standardization. - Editor's foreword.

Book Synopsis The School of Franz Brentano by : L. Albertazzi
Download or read book The School of Franz Brentano written by L. Albertazzi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central idea developed by the contributions to this book is that the split between analytic philosophy and phenomenology - perhaps the most impor tant schism in twentieth-century philosophy - resulted from a radicalization of reciprocal partialities. Both schools of thought share, in fact, the same cultural background and their same initial stimulus in the thought of Franz Brentano. And one outcome of the subsequent rift between them was the oblivion into which the figure and thought of Brentano have fallen. The first step to take in remedying this split is to return to Brentano and to reconstruct the 'map' of Brent ani sm. The second task (which has been addressed by this book) is to revive inter est in the theoretical complexity of Brentano' s thought and of his pupils and to revitalize those aspects that have been neglected by subsequent debate within the various movements of Brentanian inspiration. We have accordingly decided to organize the book into two introductory es says followed by two sections (Parts 1 and 2) which systematically examine Brentano's thought and that of his followers. The two introductory essays re construct the reasons for the 'invisibility', so to speak, of Brentano and set out of his philosophical doctrine. Part 1 of the book then ex the essential features amines six of Brentano's most outstanding pupils (Marty, Stumpf, Meinong, Ehrenfels, Husserl and Twardowski). Part 2 contains nine essays concentrating on the principal topics addressed by the Brentanians.

Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of papers devoted to the 70th birthday of Professor Vladimir Rabinovich. The opening article (by Stefan Samko) includes a short biography of Vladimir Rabinovich, along with some personal recollections and bibliography of his work. It is followed by twenty research and survey papers in various branches of analysis (pseudodifferential operators and partial differential equations, Toeplitz, Hankel, and convolution type operators, variable Lebesgue spaces, etc.) close to Professor Rabinovich's research interests. Many of them are written by participants of the International workshop “Analysis, Operator Theory, and Mathematical Physics” (Ixtapa, Mexico, January 23–27, 2012) having a long history of scientific collaboration with Vladimir Rabinovich, and are partially based on the talks presented there. The volume will be of great interest to researchers and graduate students in differential equations, operator theory, functional and harmonic analysis, and mathematical physics.

Book Synopsis The Faculties of the Human Mind and the Case of Moral Feeling in Kant’s Philosophy by : Antonino Falduto
Download or read book The Faculties of the Human Mind and the Case of Moral Feeling in Kant’s Philosophy written by Antonino Falduto and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2014-04-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past few decades a remarkable change occurred in Kant scholarship: the "other" Kant has been discovered, i.e. the one of the doctrine of virtue and the anthropology. Through the rediscovery of Kant's investigations into the empirical and sensuous aspects of knowledge, our understanding of Kant's philosophy has been enriched by an important element that has allowed researchers to correct supposed deficiencies in Kant's work. In addition, further questions concerning the nature of Kant's philosophy itself have been formulated: the more the "other" Kant comes to the fore, the stronger the question concerning the connection between pure philosophy and empirical investigation becomes. The aim of this study is to show that the psychological and anthropological interpretations of Kant's pure philosophy are not convincing and at the same time to illustrate some connections between his critical and anthropological investigations by means of an analysis of the theory of the faculties. Against both a "transcendental psychological" and an "anthropological" reading, the book presents Kant's theory of the faculties as a constitutive part of his critical philosophy and shows that there is a close connection between Kant's pure philosophy and his moral aesthetic.
