Book Synopsis Environmental Technology in the Oil Industry by : Stefan Orszulik
Download or read book Environmental Technology in the Oil Industry written by Stefan Orszulik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This significantly updated edition looks at each stage in the life cycle of petroleum products, from exploration to end use, examining the environmental pressures on the oil industry and its response. Technical developments are progressing in line with environmental concerns and increasing sophistication of computer modelling techniques. These subjects are interrelated, but have often been dealt with independently. This book explores these topics together in a way that is understandable to the non-expert, and those who are expert in one field, but wish to see their expertise discussed in the overall context. Written primarily for those working in the oil and related industries, this book also provides essential reference material for government and research institutions and all those with an interest in environmental technological issues.

Book Synopsis Environmental Technology in the Oil Industry by : S. T. Orszulik
Download or read book Environmental Technology in the Oil Industry written by S. T. Orszulik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely book examines in detail the life-cycle of petroleum products, the environmental issues arising, and how the industry has responded to these challenges with the application of technology and organisation. Coverage is of the complete product life-cycle form production and refining of crude oil through to the use of the products and includes such topical issues as decommissioning of offshore oil installations. The oil industry produces a range of products without which modern civilisation could not exist; however, an increasingly environmentally aware society demands that products are manufactured without undue pollution or hazard to people. The ability and willingness of the industry to comply determines whether society continues to allow it a licence to operate. For each stage of a product life-cycle, the issues and constraints are identified - what they are, who is imposing them and why, their technical and financial implications. The technological solutions which have been found or are being developed are then outlined in a legal and commercial context. Written primarily for those working in the oil and related industries, this book also provides essential reference material for government and research institutions and all those with an interest in environmental technological issues.

Download or read book Applied Geothermics written by Lev Eppelbaum and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-04-29 with total page 757 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes origin and characteristics of the Earth’s thermal field, thermal flow propagation and some thermal phenomena in the Earth. Description of thermal properties of rocks and methods of thermal field measurements in boreholes, underground, at near-surface conditions enables to understand the principles of temperature field acquisition and geothermal model development. Processing and interpretation of geothermal data are shown on numerous field examples from different regions of the world. The book warps, for instance, such fields as analysis of thermal regime of the Earth’s crust, evolution and thermodynamic conditions of the magma-ocean and early Earth atmosphere, thermal properties of permafrost, thermal waters, geysers and mud volcanoes, methods of Curie discontinuity construction, quantitative interpretation of thermal anomalies, examination of some nonlinear effects, and integration of geothermal data with other geophysical methods. This book is intended for students and researchers in the field of Earth Sciences and Environment studying thermal processes in the Earth and in the subsurface. It will be useful for specialists applying thermal field analysis in petroleum, water and ore geophysics, environmental and ecological studies, archaeological prospection and climate of the past.
Book Synopsis Reservoir Simulation by : Zhangxin Chen
Download or read book Reservoir Simulation written by Zhangxin Chen and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with an overview of classical reservoir engineering and basic reservoir simulation methods, this book then progresses through a discussion of types of flows - single-phase, two-phase, black oil (three-phase), single phase with multi-components, compositional, and thermal. The author provides a thorough glossary of petroleum engineering terms and their units, along with basic flow and transport equations and their unusual features, and corresponding rock and fluid properties. The book also summarises the practical aspects of reservoir simulation, such as data gathering and analysis, and reservoir performance prediction. Suitable as a text for advanced undergraduate and first-year graduate students in geology, petroleum engineering, and applied mathematics; as a reference book; or as a handbook for practitioners in the oil industry. Prerequisites are calculus, basic physics, and some knowledge of partial differential equations and matrix algebra.
Book Synopsis Mechanics of Hydraulic Fracturing by : Ching H. Yew
Download or read book Mechanics of Hydraulic Fracturing written by Ching H. Yew and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revised to include current components considered for today's unconventional and multi-fracture grids, Mechanics of Hydraulic Fracturing, Second Edition explains one of the most important features for fracture design — the ability to predict the geometry and characteristics of the hydraulically induced fracture. With two-thirds of the world's oil and natural gas reserves committed to unconventional resources, hydraulic fracturing is the best proven well stimulation method to extract these resources from their more remote and complex reservoirs. However, few hydraulic fracture models can properly simulate more complex fractures. Engineers and well designers must understand the underlying mechanics of how fractures are modeled in order to correctly predict and forecast a more advanced fracture network. Updated to accommodate today's fracturing jobs, Mechanics of Hydraulic Fracturing, Second Edition enables the engineer to: - Understand complex fracture networks to maximize completion strategies - Recognize and compute stress shadow, which can drastically affect fracture network patterns - Optimize completions by properly modeling and more accurately predicting for today's hydraulic fracturing completions - Discusses the underlying mechanics of creating a fracture from the wellbore - Enhanced to include newer modeling components such as stress shadow and interaction of hydraulic fracture with a natural fracture, which aids in more complex fracture networks - Updated experimental studies that apply to today's unconventional fracturing cases

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in the petroleum sector that sheds light on the real obstacles to sustainable development and provides solutions to each problem encountered. Each solution is complete with an economic analysis that clarifies why petroleum operations can continue with even greater profit than before while ensuring that the negative environmental impact is diminished. The new screening tools and models proposed in this book will provide one with proper guidelines to achieve true sustainability in both technology development and management of the petroleum sector.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling for Flow and Transport Through Porous Media by : Gedeon Dagan
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling for Flow and Transport Through Porous Media written by Gedeon Dagan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main aim of this paper is to present some new and general results, ap plicable to the the equations of two phase flow, as formulated in geothermal reservoir engineering. Two phase regions are important in many geothermal reservoirs, especially at depths of order several hundred metres, where ris ing, essentially isothermal single phase liquid first begins to boil. The fluid then continues to rise, with its temperature and pressure closely following the saturation (boiling) curve appropriate to the fluid composition. Perhaps the two most interesting theoretical aspects of the (idealised) two phase flow equations in geothermal reservoir engineering are that firstly, only one component (water) is involved; and secondly, that the densities of the two phases are so different. This has led to the approximation of ignoring capillary pressure. The main aim of this paper is to analyse some of the consequences of this assumption, especially in relation to saturation changes within a uniform porous medium. A general analytic treatment of three dimensional flow is considered. Pre viously, three dimensional modelling in geothermal reservoirs have relied on numerical simulators. In contrast, most of the past analytic work has been restricted to one dimensional examples.
