Book Synopsis Advances in Catalytic Activation of Dioxygen by Metal Complexes by : László I. Simándi
Download or read book Advances in Catalytic Activation of Dioxygen by Metal Complexes written by László I. Simándi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of dioxygen activation and homogeneous catalytic oxidation by metal complexes has been in the focus of attention over the last 20 years. The widespread interest is illustrated by its recurring presence among the sessions and subject areas of important international conferences on various aspects of bioinorganic and coordination chemistry as well as catalysis. The most prominent examples are ICCC, ICBIC, EUROBIC, ISHC, and of course the ADHOC series of meetings focusing on the subject itself. Similarly, the number of original and review papers devoted to various aspects of dioxygen activation are on the rise. This trend is due obviously to the relevance of catalytic oxidation to biological processes such as dioxygen transport, and the action of oxygenase and oxidase enzymes related to metabolism. The structural and functional modeling of metalloenzymes, particularly of those containing iron and copper, by means of low-molecular complexes of iron, copper, ruthenium, cobalt, manganese, etc., have provided a wealth of indirect information helping to understand how the active centers of metalloenzymes may operate. The knowledge gained from the study of metalloenzyme models is also applicable in the design of transition metal complexes as catalytsts for specific reactions. This approach has come to be known as biomimetic or bioinspired catalysis and continues to be a fruitful and expanding area of research.
Book Synopsis Mesoporous Molecular Sieves 1998 by : L. Bonneviot
Download or read book Mesoporous Molecular Sieves 1998 written by L. Bonneviot and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-07-08 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original properties of mesoporous molecular sieves are so unique that the design of most existing catalysts could be reconsidered. It might indeed be of interest to introduce MMS either as a support or as the active phase, merely on the basis of their high surface areas, narrow pore size distribution and flexibility in composition. The recent literature provides examples of MMS based catalysts of many types such as acid-base solids, supported metals and supported oxides, mixed oxides, anchored complexes and clusters, grafted organic functional groups and others. Examples of all these developments are documented in the present proceedings including some spectacular new proposals. The new metallic (Pt) mesophases are specially worth mentioning because they represent a new approach to producing non-supported highly dispersed metals. In these proceedings the reader will find feature articles and regular papers from many worldwide groups, covering all aspects of synthesis, physical characterization and catalytic reactivity of MMS and their chemically modified forms. It is actually remarkable that this recent development brought together an even broader spectrum of scientists from traditionally unrelated fields such as those of liquid crystals, surfactants, sol-gels, amorphous oxides and mixed oxides, solid state, adsorbents and heterogeneous catalysts. Obviously, this is a fast-growing research area which triggers the imagination and creativity at the cross-road between material design, molecular surface tailoring and catalytic applications.

Book Synopsis Applications of Enzyme Biotechnology by : Jeffrey W. Kelly
Download or read book Applications of Enzyme Biotechnology written by Jeffrey W. Kelly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Industry-University Cooperative Chemistry Program (IUCCP) has sponsored eight previous international symposia covering a range of topics of interest to industrial and academic chemists. The ninth IUCCP Symposium, held March 18-21, 1991 at Texas A&M University was the second in a two part series focusing on Biotechnology. The title for this Symposium "Applications of Enzyme Biotechnology" was by design a rather all encompassing title, similar in some respects to the discipline. Biotechnology refers to the application of biochemistry for the development of a commercial product. Persons employed in or interested in biotechnology may be chemists, molecular biologists, biophysicists, or physicians. The breadth of biotech research projects requires close collaboration between scientists of a variety of backgrounds, prejudices, and interests. Biotechnology is a comparatively new discipline closely tied to new developments in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and medicine. The primary function of Texas A&M University is to educate students who will be appropriately trained to carry out the mission of biotechnology. The IUCCP Symposium serves as an important forum for fostering closer ties between academia and industry and exchanging ideas so important to this evolving area.
Book Synopsis Angle-Resolved Photoemission by : S.D. Kevan
Download or read book Angle-Resolved Photoemission written by S.D. Kevan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-05-15 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angle-resolved photoemission has become an indispensable tool for solid state and surface physicists and chemists. This book covers the underlying phenomenology of the technique, reviews its application to existing problems, and discusses future applications. The book is particularly timely given the significant improvements in experimental and theoretical methodology which have recently been or soon will be attained, namely, ultrahigh resolution studies using improved sources of synchrotron radiation, quasiparticle interpretation of measured dispersion relations and spectra, in situ growth of novel materials, etc. The technique has been applied predominantly to understand materials for which the one-electron paradigm is a reasonable approximation. Most chapters discuss this type of experiment: 2D and 3D states in metals and semiconductors, extrinsic states induced by adsorption, etc. Applications of the technique to materials where electron correlation plays a comparable role to that of solid state hybridization, ferro- and antiferromagnets, high Tc superconductors, etc. are rapidly growing in popularity. These areas are also discussed and a foundation is laid for further experiments in this direction. Almost all chapters contain comprehensive bibliographies and compendia of systems studied. The book has an extensive index which cross references applications and systems studied.

Book Synopsis Preparation of Catalysts VII by : R. Maggi
Download or read book Preparation of Catalysts VII written by R. Maggi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-08-17 with total page 1007 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of the VIIth International Symposium on the Scientific Bases for the Preparation of Heterogeneous Catalysts, are in line with the general scope of this series of events. Emphasis in all Symposia has been on the scientific aspects of the preparation of new and industrial catalysts, or on new methods of preparation, rather than on the catalytic reactions in which such solids are ultimately used. In the present context, the catalytic event itself has only been considered as another, though often decisive, method of catalyst characterization.
