Book Synopsis Superconducting Quantum Electronics by : Volkmar Kose
Download or read book Superconducting Quantum Electronics written by Volkmar Kose and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the surprising discovery of superconductivity at temperatures above 100 K, this field was not only brought into the public eye, but also stimulated research in universities, scientific institutions and industry, thus continuing the fascinating development which began with the discovery of the Josephson effect in the sixties. Cryoelectronics has become a special branch of cryophysics and cryotechnics and today plays a prominent role whenever high resolution and precision measurements are required. Motivated by this development, seven years ago scientists working in cryoelectronics in the Federal Republic of Germany felt the necessity for regular meetings allowing a free exchange of ideas and results achieved. Seminars under the title of "Kryoelektronische Bauelemente" were held for the first time at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig in 1982 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Walther MeiBner, a pioneer in superconductivity. Since then, meetings have been held every year at different venues in Germany. It is now felt that the status of this field necessitates a review of the results of the past, a description of the current state of the art, and a discussion of future perspectives. This book, entitled SUPERCONDUCTING QUANTUM ELECTRONICS is a collection of invited lectures and contributions which will inform the reader on the most interesting problems involving fundamentals, sensitive detectors and precision metrology being studied by different groups.

Book Synopsis Reviews, Refinements and New Ideas in Face Recognition by : Peter Corcoran
Download or read book Reviews, Refinements and New Ideas in Face Recognition written by Peter Corcoran and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-07-27 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a baby one of our earliest stimuli is that of human faces. We rapidly learn to identify, characterize and eventually distinguish those who are near and dear to us. We accept face recognition later as an everyday ability. We realize the complexity of the underlying problem only when we attempt to duplicate this skill in a computer vision system. This book is arranged around a number of clustered themes covering different aspects of face recognition. The first section on Statistical Face Models and Classifiers presents reviews and refinements of some well-known statistical models. The next section presents two articles exploring the use of Infrared imaging techniques and is followed by few articles devoted to refinements of classical methods. New approaches to improve the robustness of face analysis techniques are followed by two articles dealing with real-time challenges in video sequences. A final article explores human perceptual issues of face recognition.

Book Synopsis Close range 3D thermography: real-time reconstruction of high fidelity 3D thermograms by : Antonio Rafael Ordóñez Müller
Download or read book Close range 3D thermography: real-time reconstruction of high fidelity 3D thermograms written by Antonio Rafael Ordóñez Müller and published by kassel university press GmbH. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared thermography enables the non-contact measurement of an object’s surface temperature and presents the results in form of thermal images. The analysis of these images provides valuable information about an object’s thermal state. However, the fidelity of the thermal images strongly depends on the pose of the thermographic camera with respect to the surface. 3D thermography offers the possibility to overcome this and other limitations that affect conventional 2D thermography but most 3D thermographic systems developed so far generate 3D thermograms from a single perspective or from few noncontiguous points of view and do not operate in real time. As a result, the 3D thermograms they generate do not offer much advantage over conventional thermal images. However, recent technological advances have unlocked the possibility of implementing affordable handheld 3D thermal imaging systems that can be easily maneuvered around an object and that can generate high-fidelity 3D thermograms in real time. This thesis explores various aspects involved in the real-time generation of high-fidelity 3D thermograms at close range using a handheld 3D thermal imaging system, presents the results of scanning an operating industrial furnace and discusses the problems associated with the generation of 3D thermograms of large objects with complex geometries.

Book Synopsis Biomedical Computing for Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis by : Pinheiro dos Santos, Wellington
Download or read book Biomedical Computing for Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis written by Pinheiro dos Santos, Wellington and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-07-17 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite success with treatment when diagnosed early, breast cancer is still one of the most fatal forms of cancer for women. Imaging diagnosis is still one of the most efficient ways to detect early breast changes with mammography among the most used techniques. However, there are other techniques that have emerged as alternatives or even complementary tests in the early detection of breast lesions (e.g., breast thermography and electrical impedance tomography). Artificial intelligence can be used to optimize image diagnosis, increasing the reliability of the reports and supporting professionals who do not have enough knowledge or experience to make good diagnoses. Biomedical Computing for Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis is a collection of research that presents a review of the physiology and anatomy of the breast; the dynamics of breast cancer; principles of pattern recognition, artificial neural networks, and computer graphics; and the breast imaging techniques and computational methods to support and optimize the diagnosis. While highlighting topics including mammograms, thermographic imaging, and intelligent systems, this book is ideally designed for medical oncologists, surgeons, biomedical engineers, medical imaging professionals, cancer researchers, academicians, and students in medicine, biomedicine, biomedical engineering, and computer science.
