During an outing with her two young nieces at a local carnival, the girls take a ride on the vintage "Tunnel of Love". Technical difficulties stall the riders while midway through the ride, while something inside the ride triggers Emmie's time travel return to the Great Depression and The Dust Bowl era where she is reunited with her young lover Teddy. They both both worked at the carnival and despite the depression, the young couple lived a life rich with happiness and love, until an event at the carnival changed the course of Emmie's world. Story 2: Plantation Promise History enthusiast and popular tour guide in South Carolina, single Doreen has a passion for the rich history, especially slave time history, of the Deep South. While ever popular amongst her tour groups, Doreen leads a quite life to herself, yearning for something she doesn't quite understand. While returning to one of the Plantation Manors to retrieve a forgotten camera by one of the tourists, the mysteries of the manor transport Doreen back to a time when her life was one of slavery. Her fortune was that she found love and protection in the most unexpected of places, and she gave her life, in order to give life. Story 3: Gangster's Girl Active with her paranormal investigations group, Regina and her group visit many of the old buildings within the Chicago area in search of paranormal findings. They conclude their weekly investigations by having late night drinks at an old bar that used to be a real life gangster hideout back in the 1930's. One evening, after the rest of her group leaves, Regina stays behind to have one more cup of coffee before heading home. While waiting for her coffee, she investigates a particular hallway and old antique phone booth she's never seen before. Pretending to make a fake call, Regina is spun into a secret tunnel once used for the gangsters escape from the feds and as she goes to investigate, she realizes that she is no longer in present time. She meets up with her gangster lover and enjoys an intimate dinner with him before all hell breaks loose in the hideout. Once again seeking out the phone booth, Regina time travels back into present time, unaware of a shared secret someone near her knows. Story 4: Reflections of Salem Taking a cross country vacation from Los Angeles to Salem, Emily leaves the hectic world of TV production behind to seek out adventure in a town rich with both good and bad history. Soren Freeman isn't crazy, but everybody thinks he is. He was a time traveler early in life, but now he's simply a man who has spent a lot of time in a home for the mentally disabled. That is until a new psychiatrist, Dr. Josephine Lane does something that no one has ever done before. She believes him. As a result, he takes her on a journey by telling her of the time he spent in Paris in 1810. He fell in love with a wealthy heiress, but made the greatest mistake of his life by letting her slip through his fingers. Dr. Lane listens to his story with increasing interest, further convinced by the items from the past he willingly provides for her. When she finds out that his grief over this woman has prevented him from time traveling for twenty years, she encourages him to relearn the skill...and to take her along for the ride. ---------------------------------------------------------- EXCERPT FROM BOOK And as he was soon to find, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen was also in Paris in 1810, so maybe everything had degraded aesthetically over time. He met Lorelai at a ball on his twenty fifth birthday. He never stood up and danced a single time that night. He watched from his chair as gentleman fell all over each other for a chance to dance with her. But he did not ask. He watched as she humored each and every one of them. He could tell who her mother was by the pleased look on the old dowager's face. Her daughter was making quite an impression. And as the night wore on, she noticed him too. She saw the peculiar man who could not take his eyes off her, but would not ask her to dance. She made eye contact with him a number of times, inviting him to request the next dance. But he never did. He just looked on. She could not help but notice that the man did not carry himself exactly correctly. He was slouched in his chair, and crossed his legs in an unmanly fashion. In fact, he did not seem to have any of the social graces of his contemporaries. It was as if he were from an entirely different time, but did not care. He cared only to watch her as she danced. AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a 26000 words stand-alone story with an HEA, so no cliff-hangers!

In the morning, they discover they exchanged personalities. Denise wakes up in 2012, in Taylor's body. Taylor now occupies Denise's body and time. Each must learn to cope with the forty-four year-switch. And each attends a presidential campaign speech central to a European billionaire's plot to destroy the United States. His plan? Assassinate presidential candidate Richard Nixon in 1968 and President Obama, running for reelection, in 2012. Only Denise and Taylor stand between him and success, but how can two teenaged girls stop the armed killers? To Denise, 2012 and cell phones, personal computers, and $6 per gallon gasoline come straight out of an episode of The Jetsons. To Taylor, 1968 feels like a museum come to life. The pink Princess telephone won't work unless plugged into the wall. Typewriters. Clothes either too demure or too outlandish. However, her high school teachers horrify Denise the worst. They criticize the United States more than the hippies of her time. Teachers! And the students agree! But not all. Soon she meets Andre, who writes the blog the Voice of Young Black Republicans. She doesn't know a blog from Wi-Fi, but he answers her many questions. He takes her to a meeting of a conservative. He doesn't know an inner circle of the group, manipulated by an agent of the European billionaire, plans to meet President Obama's upcoming campaign speech with bullets instead of protest signs. Taylor hates Denise's annoying boyfriend, but comes to rely on the hippie Georgie. He helps her find the ancient library book that promises to send her back to 2012. Georgie also tells Taylor of the Black Cougars' plan -- also caused by manipulation by the European billionaire -- to assassinate Richard Nixon when he makes a campaign speech. Taylor thinks it's not her problem until Georgie convinces her Nixon's death by assassination in 1968 would plunge the United States into violence and chaos . . . that would inevitably change 2012 as she (and we) know it. Georgie proclaims himself a lover, not a fighter, and he won't stand by and watch his country overrun by hate. And Taylor loves Georgie. How can the two teenage girls, in shock from time travel lag, stop two presidential level assassions separated by forty-four years? And what happens when they must return to their own years? In this teenage adventure fiction, two teenage girls battle ruthless men determined to carry out the crimes of two centuries. An unusual young adult time travel adventure and romance. Two presidential level assassinations that don't occur in history as we now know it -- but young adult time travel political thriller, a powerful, wealthy man plans to change that. He hates history as we know it, because the United States remains strong. To download this exciting teenage paranormal thriller, just scroll up now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that time travel fiction is a narrative “laboratory,” a setting for thought experiments in which essential theoretical questions about storytelling—and, by extension, about the philosophy of temporality, history, and subjectivity—are represented in the form of literal devices and plots. Drawing on physics, philosophy, narrative theory, psychoanalysis, and film theory, the book links innovations in time travel fiction to specific shifts in the popularization of science, from evolutionary biology in the late 1800s, through relativity and quantum physics in the mid–20th century, to more recent “multiverse” cosmologies. Wittenberg shows how increasing awareness of new scientific models leads to surprising innovations in the literary “time machine,” which evolves from a “vehicle” used chiefly for sociopolitical commentary into a psychological and narratological device capable of exploring with great sophistication the temporal structure and significance of subjects, viewpoints, and historical events. The book covers work by well-known time travel writers such as H. G. Wells, Edward Bellamy, Robert Heinlein, Samuel Delany, and Harlan Ellison, as well as pulp fiction writers of the 1920s through the 1940s, popular and avant-garde postwar science fiction, television shows such as “The Twilight Zone” and “Star Trek,” and current cinema. Literature, film, and TV are read alongside theoretical work ranging from Einstein, Schrödinger, and Stephen Hawking to Gérard Genette, David Lewis, and Gilles Deleuze. Wittenberg argues that even the most mainstream audiences of popular time travel fiction and cinema are vigorously engaged with many of the same questions about temporality, identity, and history that concern literary theorists, media and film scholars, and philosophers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to offer a justice-focused cognitive reading of modern YA speculative fiction in its narrative and filmic forms. It links the expansion of YA speculative fiction in the 20th century with the emergence of human and civil rights movements, with the communitarian revolution in conceptualizations of justice, and with spectacular advances in cognitive sciences as applied to the examination of narrative fiction. Oziewicz argues that complex ideas such as justice are processed by the human mind as cognitive scripts; that scripts, when narrated, take the form of multiply indexable stories; and that YA speculative fiction is currently the largest conceptual testing ground in the forging of justice consciousness for the 21st century world. Drawing on recent research in the cognitive and evolutionary sciences, Oziewicz explains how poetic, retributive, restorative, environmental, social, and global types of justice have been represented in narrative fiction, from 19th century folk and fairy tales through 21st century fantasy, dystopia, and science fiction. Suggesting that the appeal of these and other nonmimetic genres is largely predicated on the dream of justice, Oziewicz theorizes new justice scripts as conceptual tools essential to help humanity survive the qualitative leap toward an environmentally conscious, culturally diversified global world. This book is an important contribution to studies of children’s and YA speculative fiction, adding a new perspective to discussions about the educational as well as social potential of nonmimetic genres. It demonstrates that the justice imperative is very much alive in YA speculative fiction, creating new visions of justice relevant to contemporary challenges.
