Book Synopsis The Indispensable Jesus by : Doug Martin
Download or read book The Indispensable Jesus written by Doug Martin and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011-08-17 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indispensable Jesus was the catalyst for all that followed. It points to Jesus personal qualities and qualifications, which make Him indispensable. He was genuine and unique, truly God and truly man. In this study, many descriptive titles are lifted from Scripture and discussed in detail with the practical purpose in mind of meeting human needs. Author Douglas Martin shares stories of intelligent, honest people who were influenced by the evidence to place their faith in Jesus. We struggle for faith and reality because we tend to forget the already finished accomplishments of Jesus. This is the heart of the book. It becomes a simplified New Testament theology. A friend with two doctorates encouraged me to put into book format what I had written as separate pamphlets. If theological terms are used, they are explained, becoming spiritual and giving meaning to the gospel without making it complex. Stories from today are windows through which we can view the life of Jesus and His influence. The hopeful outcome for readers will be that spiritual food available for intellectual giraffes will be enjoyed by the sheep of His pastures. The final section contains our responses to the lover of our souls. While it is important to see that the mind matters, so that Jesus makes sense, it is likewise important to accept the fact that truth is only truly effective when it is internalizedwhen we treasure it in our hearts. That is what part three encourages us to do. What becomes routine is lost, but that which resides in the heart nourishes our spirits and makes life meaningful and enjoyable. It is meant to cheer the heart of readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AS SEEN ON AUSTRALIAN STORY Shortlisted for The Ned Kelly Awards Best True Crime 2018 Shortlisted for The Danger Prize (writing about Sydney and crime) 2018 'I first met Lindsey Rose playing pool at The Burwood Hotel in 1988. I was two years out of high school. He'd already committed three murders. None of us knew. 'We knew he was a brothel owner, we knew not to get on his wrong side, but we knew nothing of his lives past: fitter and turner, ambulance officer, private investigator, car thief, hijacker, arsonist, mercenary, drug dealer. Murderer. 'I drank at The Burwood on and off for six years. The last time I saw Lindsey as a free man was in early 1994 when he came to a poker game at my home. By then he'd committed two more murders - on Valentine's Day 1994 - and that made five.' What factors are at play in the creation of a cold-blooded killer? How can a relaxed, sociable, loving man with a strong work ethic keep the truth of his inner life, his dark side, hidden from friends, family and even the woman he marries? Informed by the science of criminal psychology, court documents and transcripts, correspondence and many interviews with Rose in the notorious Goulburn Supermax prison, Campbell McConachie's account is a unique and fascinating journey into the life and mind of a multiple murderer.
Download or read book Raymond Williams written by Fred Inglis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-06-23 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his life, Raymond Williams played many parts: child of the Black Mountains, inspirational adult lecturer, Cambridge professor, folk hero and guru of the left. After his death, he has remained a symbolic figure and his classic works, Culture and Society, The Long Revolution, The Country and the City continue to inspire new generations all over the world. In this first major biography, Fred Inglis has spoken to those who knew this complex and charismatic man at every stage of his life, from his boyhood in the Welsh border country to his brief years of retirement. Through their voices and his own passionate stories and at times combative engagement with his subject, he tells of a story of a life not just for its time but for our own. After Thatcher and Reagan and the Cold War, Williams still has much to teach us about the nature of a good and just society and about the constant struggle to attain it.
