Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artist Management in the Music Industries: A Sui Generis Form of Management provides one of the first substantive, academic examinations of the role of an artist manager. This book deconstructs the nature of Artist Management, unveiling the pivotal role of the artist manager in creating and sustaining a dynamic environment referred to as the ‘Loop’, where success is realised by navigating four variables – Risks, Relationships, Emotions, and Expectations (2Rs and 2Es) – within and beyond the ‘Loop’. This book offers a new perspective on Artist Management as a sui generis discipline that does not fit easily inside standard conceptions of management. Featuring ethnography and interviews, this book sheds light on the realworld challenges and successes in the field. It is a must-read for researchers, students, and practitioners in the music business, music marketing, and artist management, offering invaluable insights into the practices that shape the cultural landscape.

This book was released on 2024-10-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is growing evidence that the current globalised agri-food system is neither sustainable nor resilient. It is responsible for around one third of the global GHG emissions and is a major driver of biodiversity loss. Furthermore, its structure and distribution mode do not provide food security for all and foster socio-economic inequalities between different parts of the planet. Consequently, an increasing number of scientists and members of the civil society are demanding a radical transformation of agri-food systems. The creation of alternative food networks (AFNs) represent a possible first step towards agri-food system transformation. AFNs can incorporate local, indigenous and innovative knowledge and bring together a diversity of actors to connect food production and consumption and create new practices and relationships around food. The creation of AFNs, and ultimately of Alternative Food Systems (AFS), should involve different actors, from farmers to social movements, from policymakers to scientists. AFNs have the potential to contribute to a transformation towards sustainable, just, resilient and productive food systems, but even though they have increased in numbers and organisational forms in recent years, they still remain in a niche. Consequently, scientific evidence of their performance is still limited. This research topic will contribute to a comprehensive, multi-scalar and critical (e.g. including potential counter-effects) understanding of the current state and future potential of AFNs. It will address multiple aspects, ranging from social, economic and environmental aspects to productivity, participation and justice. Moreover, it will highlight the role of governance, power relations and institutions, as well as barriers and ways forward to promote AFNs and their role in food system transformation.

Book excerpt: This book is the third publication out of the Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation (AEI) Lab that focuses exclusively on research that empirically investigates crossovers between arts, entrepreneurship and innovation. This volume does so specifically by using the lens of cultural economics. The chapters in this volume have been chosen not only because they have clear implications for policy and practice, but also because they contribute to theories of value creation in the cultural and creative industries. As a whole, this book addresses relationships between arts, entrepreneurship and innovation for workers, firms, and industry to bring clarity to how value is created in the arts. Previously published in Journal of Cultural Economics Volume 45, issue 4, December 2021 Chapters “Direct Memberships in Foreign Copyright Collecting Societies as an Entrepreneurial Opportunity for Music Publishers – Needs, Challenges, Opportunities and Solutions” and “Do Museums Foster Innovation Through Engagement with the Cultural and Creative Industries?” are available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Irish Studies demonstrates how diverse critical approaches enable a richer understanding of contemporary Irish writing and culture. The early decades of the twenty-first century in Ireland and Northern Ireland have seen an astonishing rate of change, one that reflects the common understanding of the contemporary as a moment of acceleration and flux. This collection tracks how Irish writers have represented the peace and reconciliation process in Northern Ireland, the consequences of the Celtic Tiger economic boom in the Republic, the waning influence of Catholicism, the increased authority of diverse voices, and an altered relationship with Europe. The essays acknowledge the distinctiveness of contemporary Irish literature, reflecting a sense that the local can shed light on the global, even as they reach beyond the limited tropes that have long identified Irish literature. The collection suggests routes forward for Irish Studies, and unsettles presumptions about what constitutes an Irish classic.
