Download or read book Navier-stokes Equations In Planar Domains written by Matania Ben-artzi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with the classical Navier-Stokes system of equations governing the planar flow of incompressible, viscid fluid. It is a first-of-its-kind book, devoted to all aspects of the study of such flows, ranging from theoretical to numerical, including detailed accounts of classical test problems such as “driven cavity” and “double-driven cavity”.A comprehensive treatment of the mathematical theory developed in the last 15 years is elaborated, heretofore never presented in other books. It gives a detailed account of the modern compact schemes based on a “pure streamfunction” approach. In particular, a complete proof of convergence is given for the full nonlinear problem. This volume aims to present a variety of numerical test problems. It is therefore well positioned as a reference for both theoretical and applied mathematicians, as well as a text that can be used by graduate students pursuing studies in (pure or applied) mathematics, fluid dynamics and mathematical physics./a

This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dual potential formulation for numerically solving the Navier-Stokes equations is developed and presented. The velocity field is decomposed using a scalar and vector potential. Vorticity and dilatation are used as the dependent variables in the momentum equations. Test cases in two dimensions verify the capability to solve flows using approximations from potential flow to full Navier-Stokes simulations. A three-dimensional incompressible flow formulation is also described. An interesting feature of this approach to solving the Navier-Stokes equations is the decomposition of the velocity field into a rotational part (vector potential) and an irrotational part (scalar potential). The Helmholtz decomposition theorem allows this splitting of the velocity field. This approach has had only limited use since it increases the number of dependent variables in the solution. However, it has often been used for incompressible flows where the solution scheme is known to be fast and accurate. This research extends the usage of this method to fully compressible Navier-Stokes simulations by using the dilatation variable along with vorticity. A time-accurate, iterative algorithm is used for the uncoupled solution of the governing equations. Several levels of flow approximation are available within the framework of this method. Potential flow, Euler and full Navier-Stokes solutions are possible using the dual potential formulation. Solution efficiency can be enhanced in a straightforward way. For some flows, the vorticity and/or dilatation may be negligible in certain regions (e.g., far from a viscous boundary in an external flow). It is possible to drop the calculation of these variables then and optimize the solution speed. Also, efficient Poisson solvers are available for the potentials. The relative merits of non-primitive variables versus primitive variables for solution of the Navier-Stokes equations are also discussed. Gegg, S. G. and Pletcher, R. H. and Steger, J. L. Unspec...

Book excerpt: "In physics, Navier-Stokes equations are the partial differential equations that describe the motion of viscous fluid substances. In this book, these equations and their applications are described in detail. Chapter One analyzes the differences between kinetic monism and all-unity in Russian cosmism and Newtonian dualism of separated energies. Chapter Two presents a model for the numerical study of unsteady gas dynamic effects accompanying local heat release in the subsonic part of a nozzle for a given distribution of power of energy. Chapter Three describes a study of relationships between integrals and areas of their applicability. Lastly, Chapter Four defines the exact solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations characterizing movement in deep water and near the surface"--

Book excerpt: Navier-Stokes Equations: Theory and Numerical Analysis focuses on the processes, methodologies, principles, and approaches involved in Navier-Stokes equations, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and mathematical analysis to which CFD is grounded. The publication first takes a look at steady-state Stokes equations and steady-state Navier-Stokes equations. Topics include bifurcation theory and non-uniqueness results, discrete inequalities and compactness theorems, existence and uniqueness theorems, discretization of Stokes equations, existence and uniqueness for the Stokes equations, and function spaces. The text then examines the evolution of Navier-Stokes equations, including linear case, compactness theorems, alternate proof of existence by semi-discretization, and discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations. The book ponders on the approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations by the projection and compressibility methods; properties of the curl operator and application to the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations; and implementation of non-conforming linear finite elements. The publication is a valuable reference for researchers interested in the theory and numerical analysis of Navier-Stokes equations.

This book was released on 1994-04-28 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The volumes deal with the fundamental mathematical properties of the Navier-Stokes equations, such as existence, regularity and uniqueness of solutions, and, for unbounded domains, their asymptotic behavior. The work is an up-to-date and detailed investigation of these problems for motions in domains of different types: bounded, exterior and domain with noncompact boundaries. Throughout the work, main problems which, so far, remain open are pointed out and for some of these conjectures are offered. New results are presented throughout, while several classical subjects are treated in a completely original way."--Google Book Search.

Book excerpt: This book provides a successful solution to one of the central problems of mathematical fluid mechanics: the Leray's problem on existence of a solution to the boundary value problem for the stationary Navier--Stokes system in bounded domains under sole condition of zero total flux. This marks the culmination of the authors' work over the past few years on this under-explored topic within the study of the Navier--Stokes equations. This book will be the first major work on the Navier--Stokes equations to explore Leray's problem in detail. The results are presented with detailed proofs, as are the history of the problem and the previous approaches to finding a solution to it. In addition, for the reader's convenience and for the self-sufficiency of the text, the foundations of the mathematical theory for incompressible fluid flows described by the steady state Stokes and Navier--Stokes systems are presented. For researchers in this active area, this book will be a valuable resource.

This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analytical basis of Navier-Stokes Equations in Irregular Domains is formed by coercive estimates, which enable proofs to be given of the solvability of the boundary value problems for Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations in weighted Sobolev and Hölder spaces, and the investigation of the smoothness of their solutions. This allows one to deal with the special problems that arise in the presence of edges or angular points in the plane case, at the boundary or noncompact boundaries. Such problems cannot be dealt with in any of the usual ways. Audience: Graduate students, research mathematicians and hydromechanicians whose work involves functional analysis and its applications to Navier-Stokes equations.
