This strange creature quickly turns the boy's life upside-down, violently disposing of anybody who gets in his or her way. Book Synopsis Al-Kashi's Miftah al-Hisab, Volume II: Geometry by : Nuh Aydin
Download or read book Al-Kashi's Miftah al-Hisab, Volume II: Geometry written by Nuh Aydin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-02 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jamshīd al-Kāshī’s Miftāḥ al-Ḥisab (Key to Arithmetic) was largely unknown to researchers until the mid-20th century, and has not been translated to English until now. This is the second book in a multi-volume set that finally brings al-Kāshī’s groundbreaking textbook to English audiences in its entirety. As soon as it was studied by modern researchers, it changed some false assumptions about the history of certain topics in mathematics. Written as a textbook for students of mathematics, astronomy, accounting, engineering, and architecture, Miftah covers a wide range of topics in arithmetic, geometry, and algebra. By sharing al-Kāshī’s most comprehensive work with a wider audience, this book will help establish a more complete history of mathematics, and extend al-Kāshī’s influence into the 21st century and beyond. The book opens by briefly recounting al-Kāshī’s biography, so as to situate readers in the work’s rich historical context. His impressive status in the kingdom of Ulugh Beg is detailed, as well as his contributions to both mathematics and astronomy. As a master calculator and astronomer, al-Kāshī’s calculations of 2π and sin(10) were by far the most accurate for almost two centuries. His law of cosines is still studied in schools today. This translation contributes to the understanding and appreciation of al-Kāshī’s esteemed place in the scientific world. A side-by-side presentation of the source manuscript—one of the oldest known copies—and the English translation is provided on each page. Detailed footnotes are also provided throughout, which will offer readers an even deeper look at the text’s mathematical and historical basis. Researchers and students of the history of mathematics will find this volume indispensable in filling in a frequently overlooked time period and region. This volume will also provide anybody interested in the history of Islamic culture with an insightful look at one of the mathematical world’s most neglected figures.

Apart from the newer Main and Advanced problems, this edition carries all the old classic problems of the past decades from JEE as well as other similar examinations, because many such questions and their solutions are thought to be extremely important for developing a proper pedagogical approach to solving IIT-JEE Mathematics problems irrespective of year of examination. An assortment of selected problems of Main and Advanced exams of the last 5 years have been given at the end of the book along with solutions which the students can use as integrative practice questions and also get familiar with the trends of the recently held examinations. For an audio-visual demo and to get a closer look-and-feel of solving questions live, students are advised to go through the videos given for each chapter by scanning the QR codes given on the chapter-opening page. Each of these videos have been prepared with utmost care by keeping the natural Pow of treatment of the concepts in the book. These are accessible free of any additional cost to the students!

Book Synopsis Mathematical Models and Methods for Plasma Physics, Volume 1 by : Rémi Sentis
Download or read book Mathematical Models and Methods for Plasma Physics, Volume 1 written by Rémi Sentis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is dedicated to the derivation and analysis of fluid models occurring in plasma physics. It focuses on models involving quasi-neutrality approximation, problems related to laser propagation in a plasma, and coupling plasma waves and electromagnetic waves. Applied mathematicians will find a stimulating introduction to the world of plasma physics and a few open problems that are mathematically rich. Physicists who may be overwhelmed by the abundance of models and uncertain of their underlying assumptions will find basic mathematical properties of the related systems of partial differential equations. A planned second volume will be devoted to kinetic models. First and foremost, this book mathematically derives certain common fluid models from more general models. Although some of these derivations may be well known to physicists, it is important to highlight the assumptions underlying the derivations and to realize that some seemingly simple approximations turn out to be more complicated than they look. Such approximations are justified using asymptotic analysis wherever possible. Furthermore, efficient simulations of multi-dimensional models require precise statements of the related systems of partial differential equations along with appropriate boundary conditions. Some mathematical properties of these systems are presented which offer hints to those using numerical methods, although numerics is not the primary focus of the book.
