Book Synopsis ZZ/2 - Homotopy Theory by : Michael Charles Crabb
Download or read book ZZ/2 - Homotopy Theory written by Michael Charles Crabb and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1980-11-28 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This account is a study of twofold symmetry in algebraic topology. The author discusses specifically the antipodal involution of a real vector bundle - multiplication by - I in each fibre; doubling and squaring operations; the symmetry of bilinear forms and Hermitian K-theory. In spite of its title, this is not a treatise on equivariant topology; rather it is the language in which to describe the symmetry. Familiarity with the basic concepts of algebraic topology (homotopy, stable homotopy, homology, K-theory, the Pontrjagin-Thom transfer construction) is assumed. Detailed proofs are not given (the expert reader will be able to supply them when necessary) yet nowhere is credibility lost. Thus the approach is elementary enough to provide an introduction to the subject suitable for graduate students although research workers will find here much of interest.

Book Synopsis Algebraic Topology by : Mark E. Mahowald
Download or read book Algebraic Topology written by Mark E. Mahowald and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1989 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will provide readers with an overview of some of the major developments in current research in algebraic topology. Representing some of the leading researchers in the field, the book contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Algebraic Topology, held at Northwestern University in March, 1988. Several of the lectures at the conference were expository and will therefore appeal to topologists in a broad range of areas. The primary emphasis of the book is on homotopy theory and its applications. The topics covered include elliptic cohomology, stable and unstable homotopy theory, classifying spaces, and equivariant homotopy and cohomology. Geometric topics--such as knot theory, divisors and configurations on surfaces, foliations, and Siegel spaces--are also discussed. Researchers wishing to follow current trends in algebraic topology will find this book a valuable resource.
Book Synopsis Motivic Homotopy Theory and Refined Enumerative Geometry by : Federico Binda
Download or read book Motivic Homotopy Theory and Refined Enumerative Geometry written by Federico Binda and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-03-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Workshop on Motivic Homotopy Theory and Refined Enumerative Geometry, held from May 14–18, 2018, at the Universität Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany. It constitutes an accessible yet swift introduction to a new and active area within algebraic geometry, which connects well with classical intersection theory. Combining both lecture notes aimed at the graduate student level and research articles pointing towards the manifold promising applications of this refined approach, it broadly covers refined enumerative algebraic geometry.

Book Synopsis Cohomological Methods in Homotopy Theory by : Jaume Aguade
Download or read book Cohomological Methods in Homotopy Theory written by Jaume Aguade and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-06-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of articles summarizing the state of knowledge in a large portion of modern homotopy theory. A call for articles was made on the occasion of an emphasis semester organized by the Centre de Recerca Matemà tica in Bellaterra (Barcelona) in 1998. The main topics treated in the book include abstract features of stable and unstable homotopy, homotopical localizations, p-compact groups, H-spaces, classifying spaces for proper actions, cohomology of discrete groups, K-theory and other generalized cohomology theories, configuration spaces, and Lusternik-Schnirelmann category. The book is addressed to all mathematicians interested in homotopy theory and in geometric aspects of group theory. New research directions in topology are highlighted. Moreover, this informative and educational book serves as a welcome reference for many new results and recent methods.

Book Synopsis Rational Homotopy Theory Ii by : Steve Halperin
Download or read book Rational Homotopy Theory Ii written by Steve Halperin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-02-11 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph is a detailed account with complete proofs of rational homotopy theory for general non-simply connected spaces, based on the minimal models introduced by Sullivan in his original seminal article. Much of the content consists of new results, including generalizations of known results in the simply connected case. The monograph also includes an expanded version of recently published results about the growth and structure of the rational homotopy groups of finite dimensional CW complexes, and concludes with a number of open questions. This monograph is a sequel to the book Rational Homotopy Theory [RHT], published by Springer in 2001, but is self-contained except only that some results from [RHT] are simply quoted without proof.

Book Synopsis Surgery Theory and Geometry of Representations by : T. tom Dieck
Download or read book Surgery Theory and Geometry of Representations written by T. tom Dieck and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes were prepared for the DMV-Seminar held in Dusseldorf, Schloss Mickeln from June 28 to July 5, 1987. They consist of two parts which can be read independently. The reader is presumed to have a basic education in differential and algebraic topology. Surgery theory is the basic tool for the investigation of differential and topological manifolds. A systematic development of the theory is a long and difficult task. The purpose of these notes is to describe simple examples and at the same time to give an introduction to some of the systematic parts of the theory. The first part is concerned with examples. They are related to representations of finite groups and group actions on spheres, and are considered as a generalisation of the spherical space form problem. The second part reviews the general setting of surgery theory and reports on the computation of the surgery abstraction groups. Both parts present material not covered in any textbook and also give an introduction to the literature and areas of research. 1. REPRESENTATION FORMS AND HOMOTOPY REPRESENTATIONS. Tammo tom Dieck Mathematical Institute Gottingen University Fed. Rep. of Germany Let G be a (finite) group. We consider group actions of G on spheres and spherelike spaces.
Book Synopsis Equivariant Stable Homotopy Theory by : L. Gaunce Jr. Lewis
Download or read book Equivariant Stable Homotopy Theory written by L. Gaunce Jr. Lewis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a foundational piece of work in stable homotopy theory and in the theory of transformation groups. It may be roughly divided into two parts. The first part deals with foundations of (equivariant) stable homotopy theory. A workable category of CW-spectra is developed. The foundations are such that an action of a compact Lie group is considered throughout, and spectra allow desuspension by arbitrary representations. But even if the reader forgets about group actions, he will find many details of the theory worked out for the first time. More subtle constructions like smash products, function spectra, change of group isomorphisms, fixed point and orbit spectra are treated. While it is impossible to survey properly the material which is covered in the book, it does boast these general features: (i) a thorough and reliable presentation of the foundations of the theory; (ii) a large number of basic results, principal applications, and fundamental techniques presented for the first time in a coherent theory, unifying numerous treatments of special cases in the literature.
