Book excerpt: Seit wenigen Jahren scheint die Erkenntnis zu reifen, dass soziale Nachhaltigkeit kein Nebenprodukt der ökologischen und ökonomischen Dimension ist, sondern dass der sozial-kulturellen Dimension eine Schlüsselfunktion zukommt, denn Nachhaltigkeit muss gelebt werden. Sie erfordert eine Veränderung von Lebensstilen und Lebensformen und eine Neuorganisation von Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft. Hierauf hatte bereits Meadows 1972 verwiesen. Er stellte fest, dass es für viele bedeutsame Probleme in der modernen Welt keine technischen Lösungen gebe, sondern dass es umfassende soziale Veränderungen brauche. Die Risiken des westlichen Wachstums- und Entwicklungsmodells sind zu realen Gefahren geworden und an sozial ungleich verteilten Verwundbarkeiten entzünden sich Risikokonflikte, die zu kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen führen können, wie der Kampf um den Zugang zu Wasser und Boden in vielen Weltregionen bereits heute zeigt. Die Erfordernisse der ökosozialen Transformation verdeutlichen die Bedeutung einer Arbeit am Sozialen, die den Kulturwandel der Gesellschaft fördert und ermöglicht, den Zugang zu den notwendigen Lebensgütern sichert und sozialstaatliche Rechte ausweitet. Angesichts der Ressourcenknappheit, z.B. der Wasserversorgung in China, des Zugangs zu Boden in vielen Ländern Afrikas, Asiens oder Lateinamerikas, der katastrophalen Folgen des Klimawandels, aber auch der wachsenden privaten und öffentlichen Armut in den Wohlfahrtsstaaten, stellt sich die Frage des Rechts auf Leben verbunden mit den nötigen Voraussetzungen neu. Die Weiterentwicklung der Menschenrechtsarbeit muss die aktuellen Arenen der Lebensrechte integrieren. Wenn Ressourcen knapper werden, wird ihre erhaltende Nutzung und ihre gerechte Verteilung zu einer zentralen sozial-, umwelt- aber auch wirtschaftspoltischen Fragestellung auf lokaler, nationaler und internationaler Ebene. Verteilungsgerechtigkeit gewinnt unter den Bedingungen der Wachstumswende an Bedeutung, denn das Versprechen, nach erreichtem Wachstum auch soziale und ökologische Ziele verfolgen zu können, hat keine Basis mehr. Ein gerechter Anteil am gesellschaftlichen Reichtum für alle ist der sozialpolitische Maßstab.

Dabei steht meist die ökologische Seite des Begriffs im Vordergrund. Doch neben der ebenfalls nicht weniger wichtigen ökonomischen Facette, stellt die soziale Nachhaltigkeit den dritten Kernpunkt des Nachhaltigkeitsbegriffes dar. Dieser Aspekt der Nachhaltigkeit wird gegenwärtig eher weniger beachtet und oftmals sogar als unbedeutend eingestuft. Diesen Umstand nimmt die hier vorliegende Arbeit zum Anlass und erhebt in Kooperation mit dem Nachhaltigkeitsnetzwerk "NAThüringen" die Einstellung von 281 Thüringer Unternehmen zum Thema soziale Nachhaltigkeit. Betrachtet wird dabei zunächst der Aufwand, den die Betriebe in interne und externe soziale Aktivitäten investieren. Es folgen Fragen zum erwarteten wEinfluss sozialen Engagements auf verschiedene betriebswirtschaftliche Indikatoren, der Motivation zu deren Umsetzung sowie Kenntnissen hinsichtlich konkreter Zertifikate und Auszeichnungen in diesem Bereich. In Verbindung mit einer grafischen Auswertung der Umfrageergebnisse werden zahlreiche Vorschläge unterbreitet, wie sich Unternehmen zielgerichtet und messbar sozial engagieren können. Die zusammengetragenen Preise, Auszeichnungen, Zertifikate und Wettbewerbe werden auch jeweils hinsichtlich ihrer Eignung zur Aufnahme in die NAThüringen-Teilnahmevoraussetzungen, im Sinne einer effizienten Vernetzung von Betrieben in Thüringen geprüft. Ein zusammenfassendes Fazit, welches auch Ansätze für weitere Studien enthält und Zukunftsausblicke bietet, beschließt die Arbeit.
