Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Chris Seay is one of my favorite people. He’s a shepherd at heart. His insights on culture always take me into a better understanding of the world we live in. I’m grateful for him in so many ways.” —Don Miller, author of Blue Like Jazz An epic journey into the deepest mysteries of faith Lost is not just a television show. It has become much larger than that, growing into a complex, mystery-filled epic that has garnered over twenty-three million participants. Some might call these people viewers, but you don’t just watch Lost—you participate in it. It demands that you dialogue with the story, seeking theories, discussing with friends, and comparing yourself to the characters. Lost has broken all the formulas for television, and in doing so has drawn together millions of people on a shared journey that explores life, faith, history, science, philosophy, hope, and the basic questions of what it means to be human. It’s the seemingly infinite ideas, philosophies, and biblical metaphors that draw us in and leave us wanting more. The Gospel According to Lost explores each of these elements in an analysis of faith and metaphor—a perfect resource for those who want to go even deeper into the journey. Inside, you’ll discover what Lost has to say about The clash between faith and reas0n, on the island and in real life; The struggle with guilt that consumes each character—and sometimes us too; The dichotomy between fatalism and fate, and what the Bible advises; How being lost—on an island or in society—presents an opportunity for reinvention that liberates some and paralyzes others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When J.J. Clark graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at the end of World War I he was ready to be a pioneer in one of the great transformations of the U.S. Navy in the twentieth century —the change from a surface-only force to one in which aviation played a key if not determinant role. Under the leadership of the key aviation admirals, William Moffett and John Towers, "Jocko" Clark with other aviation-minded officers battled low budgets and unsympathetic policy makers to champion the development of naval aviation during the 1920s and 30s. Pearl Harbor proved them right. As captain of the new Yorktown (the original was sunk at Midway), Clark provided aggressive leadership in the capture of the Gilbert and Marshall Islands. As a carrier task group commander, Clark was instrumental in the brilliant victory at the Battle of the Philippine Sea, which included the Marianas Turkey Shoot. He withstood numerous kamikaze attacks at Iwo Jima and Okinawa while seeing that Japan's airpower was destroyed. After the war he was instrumental in salvaging naval aviation from the attacks of other services and policy makers. During the Korean War he served as Commander Seventh Fleet in the all-important naval air support of that conflict. Naval historian Clark Reynolds is particularly well placed to write this book because he had access to family papers and was co-author of the Admiral Clark's autobiography.

Book excerpt: "This roller-coaster tale takes you on a spiritual ride." —RT Book Reviews When a good woman goes astray, what will it take to get right with her family—and God? The one thing Shari McCray is feeling most about her marriage is what it's missing, but her husband Dillon's frustrations with his career as a Christian college football coach leave her complaints falling on deaf ears. So when a book she's written is adapted into a play, Shari jumps at the chance to get away—even if it leads her straight to temptation. Bryce Maddox, the famous gospel singer who's starring in the play, has a lot in common with Shari, including a troubled marriage. As their attraction deepens, Shari's fear that her relationship with God is in trouble comes true. To get right, she'll have to set things straight with her husband—and the Lord. But the road to redemption has its share of surprises, and it will take all the love and faith Shari and Dillon can muster to turn a difficult situation into a lifelong blessing. "Wearing My Halo Tilted offers an interesting peek into some of the everyday things that cause marriages to fail." —The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year is 1946, and the sun is about to set on the British Empire in India. Even as widespread unrest and communal violence break out all over the country, sixteen-year old Philip Brandon, spending his winter vacations in the sleepy little town of Lakhbagan, grapples with his amorous yearnings while questioning what he wants out of life, and confronting his doubts and fears about his future in the new India. In the midst of boisterous parties and furtive dates, shooting expeditions and festive balls, the general turmoil in the country seems a distant irritant. However, trouble lurks around the corner as mysterious characters and events – a dowager with a dark secret, the new collector and his wife who are not quite what they seem, the phantom revolutionary Robin Roy, banners proclaiming ‘Quit India’ and ‘Jai Hind’ which appear inexplicably – cast their shadow on the tranquillity of Lakhbagan, threatening to shatter the idyll forever. Brimming with memorable cameos and vignettes, The Year Before Sunset is a witty and perceptive look at India on the eve of independence, in particular its Anglo-Indian community and the issues confronting the community as it comes to terms with the uncertainty about its status in a new and independent nation.

Book excerpt: "We were excited with the prospect of writing the second edition of this book, but as we embarked on this journey our hearts became heavy and deeply saddened as we witnessed multiple social injustices in our community, the nation, and the world. We have rewritten this Introductory Chapter a number of times as these injustices occurred, aware that these events impacted ours and others personal and professional lives, and subsequently our writing. Astoundingly, each violation of human rights and social and racial justice was as profoundly devastating, disturbing, and shocking as the one that proceeded the injustice one month, one week, one day, or even one hour before"--

Book excerpt: "Both what you run from -- and what you yearn for -- are within you." --Anthony de Mello, S.J. In the tradition of his bestselling Song of the Bird, de Mello has written these story meditations as stepping stones toward a spiritual life based on self-knowledge and understanding. This book contains over 250 stories, grouped under the themes of Prayer, Awareness, Religion, Grace, "Saints," Self, Love, and Truth. Although derived from a variety of countries and cultures, these tales share the spiritual heritage and popular humor of the entire human race. As he does so skillfully in his other books, de Mello uses the medium of the story to enable his readers to work through their problems and arrive at essential Truth. With each seemingly simple anecdote comes a lesson powerful enough to break down barriers that limit self-understanding -- which in turn fosters a better understanding of others, in all situations in life. "Even if you read the stories in this book only for the entertainment," he warns, "there is no guarantee that an occasional story will not slip through your defenses and explode when you least expect it to." Taking Flight offers a joyful, transcendental experience. De Mello pilots a spiritual journey with the skill of a true master.
