Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "Your Forces and How to Use Them (Six Volumes - Complete Edition)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Extract: "A principal means for holding and increasing both physical and mental strength lies in the training of the mind and body to do but one thing at a time; in other words, to put all the thought necessary for the performance of any act in that act, and to put aside all other thought whatever save what belongs to that act." Your Forces and How to Use Them is the most profound piece of work by one of the New Thought pioneers, Prentice Mulford. It contains six volumes and each one can be considered a separate book itself. These volumes are composed of numerous essays which, even though some being on various topics, still have one common goal, achieving prosperity and success using forces that are in us and which we are not aware of. The book was written in Mulford's final years and it was not published until after his death. Contents: YOU TRAVEL WHEN YOU SLEEP WHERE YOU TRAVEL WHEN YOU SLEEP THE ART OF FORGETTING HOW THOUGHTS ARE BORN THE LAW OF SUCCESS HOW TO KEEP YOUR STRENGTH CONSIDER THE LILIES THE ART OF STUDY PROFIT AND LOSS IN ASSOCIATES THE SLAVERY OF FEAR WHAT ARE SPIRITUAL GIFTS? THE PROCESS OF RE EMBODIMENT RE-EMBODIMENT UNIVERSAL IN NATURE Prentice Mulford (1834-1891) was a noted literary humorist, comic lecturer, author of poems and essays, and a columnist. He was also instrumental in the founding of the popular philosophy, New Thought, along with other notable writers including Ralph Waldo Emerson. Mulford's book, Thoughts are Things served as a guide to this new belief system and is still popular today. He also coined the term Law of Attraction.

Copyrighted 1892, by F. J. Nbkdhah. New thought is new life. When an invention, a discovery first breaks on the inventor's mind, it fills him with joy, pleasure. The blood in his veins surges with a fresher impetus. The author or poet is lifted into ecstacy of emotion by a new conception; 1 mean- the relatively few creative authors and poets--not the many who, borrowing the fire of Genius, put it in their own lanterns and pass it oft, often successfully as their own. "A piece of good news," as we term it in a period of gloom, depression, discouragement; the possible realization of a hope, the removal of an ill or danger, is but a thought after all--is but the picture in the mind of the thing desired--is not the thing itself, yet how it brings strength to the whole body. An entertaining spectacle, a drama so perfectly acted as to absorb all one's attention, an interview with one to whom we are strongly attracted, a pursuit, or exercise or art, which interests and fascinates--all these are as food and nourishment, stimulation to the body, and in the absorption or excitenient of the moment, hunger for material food may pass away or be forgotten. So we do not live by bread alone. But our natures demand ever new and newer food of thought. The play so charming when first seen may become tiresome through repetition. The air so fascinating when first heard, becomes worn through familiarity. There may even be longed for, a change from the quality of the thought of the mind most attractive to us. I mean for all these a change, but only for a time. The play, the opera, the artist may in time be seen again and with increase of pleasure, either from the influence of former association, or from new growths and shadings in...

Book excerpt: Grown out of author Prentice Mulford's spiritual nature and study of the metaphysical and the mundane, Your Forces and How to Use Them, originally published in 1911, is at once a description of the mental forces we all possess and an expression of those that are not so obvious, but of which we subconsciously take part. Touching on topics as varied and as cerebral as dream-life, memory, mesmerism, knowledge, and the power of positive thinking, this fascinating study of the psycho-spiritual is a must for anyone curious about the power of the human mind. American author PRENTICE MULFORD (1834-1891) is one of the oddest fixtures of 19th-century literature. After moving for years in the literary and Bohemian sets of San Francisco in the 1860s as a writer of humorous short stories, he lived as a hermit in New Jersey, where he wrote the books of modern spirituality that made him a pioneer of modern self-help philosophies, including Thoughts Are Things and The God in You.

Book excerpt: This book will help you to think with your whole mind.Scientific research in the metaphysical field has demonstrated the fact that man is as he thinks, that he becomes what he thinks, and that what he thinks in the present, determines what he is to become in the future; and also that since he can change his thought for the better along any line, he can therefore completely change himself along any line. But the majority who try to apply this law do not succeed to a great degree, the reason being that instead of working entirely upon the principle that man is as he thinks, they proceed in the belief that man is what he thinks he is.Our destiny is not mapped out for us by some exterior power; we map it out for ourselves. What we think and do in the present determines what shall happen to us in the future. You may think that you are well, but you will not secure health until you think thoughts that produce health. You may persistently affirm that you are well, but so long as you live in discord, confusion, worry, fear and other wrong states of mind, you will be sick; that is, you will be as you think and not what you think you are. The power of desire when combined with faith becomes invincible.Whenever you think, make it a practice to think with your whole mind. Make your thinking wholehearted instead of half-hearted. Whenever you act, act with all there is in you. It is the purpose of this book not only to discuss these greater powers and possibilities in man, but also to present practical methods through which they may be applied, and to encourage as many as possible to study and apply these greater powers within them so that they may not only become greater and richer and more worthy as individuals, but may also become the forerunners of that higher and more wonderful race of which we all have so fondly dreamed.Chapter 1: The Ruling Principle of ManChapter 2: How We Govern The Forces We Possess Chapter 3: The Use of Mind in Practical ActionChapter 4: The Forces of The SubconsciousChapter 5: Training the Subconscious For Special ResultsChapter 6: The Power of Subjective ThoughtChapter 7: How Man Becomes What He ThinksChapter 8: The Art of Changing For the BetterChapter 9: He Can Who Thinks He CanChapter 10: How We Secure What We Persistently DesireChapter 11: Concentration and the Power Back of SuggestionChapter 12: The Development of the WillChapter 13: The Building of a Great MindChapter 14: How Character Determines Constructive ActionChapter 15: The Art of Building CharacterChapter 16: The Creative Forces In ManChapter 17: The Building Power of Constructive SpeechChapter 18: Imagination and the Master MindChapter 19: The Higher Forces In ManChapter 20: The Greatest Power In Man

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Your Forces and How to Use Them How many energies there are in man, no one knows; but there are so many that even the keenest observers of human activity have found it impossible to count them all. And as most of these energies are remarkable, to say the least, and some of them so re markable as to appear both limitless in power and numberless in possibilities, we may well wonder what man will become when he learns to use them all. Book excerpt: YOUR FORCES AND HOW TO USE THEM With following enhanced features *** Modern English Version *** Easy, Enjoyable and Fast Read *** Satisfactory Both for Children and Adult Readers *** Attentive Editing *** Fluid Text Formatting *** ALL SIX VOLUMES COMPRISED IN ONE BOOK About The Book in Brief Modern format edition of the six volumes of the series "Your Forces and how to Use Them", by Prentice Mulford.Great manual on the use of spiritual forces, the marvelous powers of the mind guided by "Silent Demand", and the beneficial beliefs. The Author's Short Biography: Prentice Mulford (5 April 1834 - 27 May 1891) was a noted literary humorist and California author. In addition, he was pivotal in the development of the thought within the New Thought movement. Many of the principles that would become standard in the movement, including the Law of Attraction, were clearly laid out in his Your Forces and How to Use Them, released as a series of essays during 1886-1892. Mulford was born in Sag Harbor, New York in 1834, and in 1856 sailed to California where he would spend the next 16 years. During this time, Mulford spent several years in mining towns, trying to find his fortune in gold, copper, or silver. After leaving the mining life, Mulford ran for a position on the California State Assembly in Sacramento. Although he was nominated, he ultimately lost the election. He returned to San Francisco and began writing for a weekly newspaper, The Golden Era. Mulford spent five years as a writer and editor for various papers and was named by many San Franciscans a "Bohemian," for his disregard for money. Mulford states in his autobiography, "poverty argued for us possession of more brains" (Prentice Mulford's Story 130). He became known for his humorous style of writing and vivid descriptions of both mining life as well as life at sea. In 1872 Mulford returned to New York City, where he became known as a comic lecturer, author of poems and essays, and a columnist for [The New York Daily Graphic] from 1875-1881. Mulford was also instrumental in the founding of the popular philosophy, New Thought, along with other notable writers. Mulford's book, Thoughts are Things, served as a guide to this new belief system and is still popular today.

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for." If you keep in your mind an image, or imagination, of yourself in perfect health, and full of strength and activity, you keep the forces working to make you so. You are constructing out of the unseen substance of thought a spiritual self (the healthy self hoped for); and this spiritual self will in time rule the material body, and make it like unto itself. If your stomach is weak, refuse in imagination to see it a weak stomach: see it only a strong stomach. If your lungs are weak, see in your mind's eye your lungs as strong. If your body is weak and sluggish, see yourself in imagination as you were when a boy or girl, when your limbs were full of activity, and you took delight in scrambling over fences and climbing trees. You are then putting out the "substance" of the thing or condition of body "hoped for." As you continue to see yourself thus, the gradual change in your physical condition for the better will increase your faith that this law is a truth. Keep to this thought of yourself as strong, active, and vigorous, week after week, month after month, year after year, and you fix more firmly in mind yourself as free from all disease. It will be a confirmed habit, or, as we say, "second nature," for you so to imagine yourself. What you think or hold most in mind or imagination, that you have most faith in. If you imagine a bugbear, much of the time you will make a reality of such imagining. The "confirmed invalid" sees himself in his "mind's eye " only as sick. He puts out, or imagines, the wrong image, or imagination. He is unconsciously working the same law. The invalid who always sees himself as sick, is in reality constructing a sick body. You can make a weak stomach...

Book excerpt: Your Forces and How to Use Them was originally published in 1903 and has now been republished by Forgotten books. Written by Prentice Mulford, the book is a sort of original self-help book, focused on aspects that may be considered "new age" were the book published today. Mulford begins his book with a brief section on God and provides the reader with a glimpse of the perspective from which this book is written. "The Supreme Wisdom, Power and Intelligence is in everything that exists from the atom to the planet," states the author. Mulford believes that all living beings are connected and that humans must awake to this connection. The first several chapters of the book discuss sleeping and dreaming, and the connection between dreams and our wellbeing. Later chapters focus on self-improvement through a variety of streams, from focus on physical being, to the art of studying, to the recognition of the spiritual gifts given to all humans. The book concludes with a discussion of re-embodiment, or the act of spirits migrating to a new body. As a self-help book, Your Forces and How to Use Them is short on any practical advice. There are very few applicable pieces of information provided. Rather, the book is focused mainly on Mulford's belief system, which is both scientifically unfounded and spiritually thin. It is difficult to imagine this text providing the reader with any advice that could be considered constructive, either spiritually or practically. Mulford's overly simplistic spiritual viewpoint and lack of practical advice make Your Forces and How to Use Them a tedious read. While this book may be of some interest to those curious about what a spiritual self-help book looked like in the early twentieth century, most readers will not find anything of value in this text. Proceed with caution. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
