Download or read book A Rapid Biological Assessment of the Atewa Range Forest Reserve, Eastern Ghana written by Jennifer McCullough and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Atewa Range Forest Reserve represents one of the largest remaining forest blocks in Ghana and one of the most rewarding areas for scientific study as the nation’s last intact block of Upland Evergreen Forest. The survey results presented in this volume confirm that Atewa is a site of extreme significance for global biodiversity conservation, one which should be protected in its entirety as it harbors a number of rare and threatened species within a unique habitat type. The results of this assessment strongly suggest that Atewa represents a very rare example of a relatively intact West African forest, notably showing that Atewa is an important site for amphibians. Researchers observed a high proportion of threatened amphibian species, some of which maintain the majority of their existing populations in Atewa.

In the late night of August 21, 1831 Nat Turner and other revolutionaries began their divinely inspired rebellion. They went from plantation to plantation killing whites indiscriminately. Nat's detailed review of his life and the uprising can be read in the pages of this text. "Being at play with other children, when three or four years old, I was telling them something, which my mother overhearing, said it had happened before I was born-I stuck to my story, however, and related somethings which went, in her opinion, to confirm it..." Nat Turner "Armed with a hatchet, and accompanied by Will, I entered my master's chamber, it being dark, I could not give a death blow, the hatchet glanced from his head, he sprang from the bed and called his wife, it was his last word..." Nat Turner was an American slave who led a rebellion of slaves and free blacks in Southampton County, Virginia on August 21, 1831. The rebels went from plantation to plantation, gathering horses and guns, freeing other slaves along the way, and recruiting other blacks who wanted to join their revolt. During the rebellion, Virginia legislators targeted free blacks with a colonization bill, which allocated new funding to remove them, and a police bill that denied free blacks trials by jury and made any free blacks convicted of a crime subject to sale and relocation.
