Book Synopsis Computer Solution of Large Linear Systems by : Gerard Meurant
Download or read book Computer Solution of Large Linear Systems written by Gerard Meurant and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-06-16 with total page 777 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with numerical methods for solving large sparse linear systems of equations, particularly those arising from the discretization of partial differential equations. It covers both direct and iterative methods. Direct methods which are considered are variants of Gaussian elimination and fast solvers for separable partial differential equations in rectangular domains. The book reviews the classical iterative methods like Jacobi, Gauss-Seidel and alternating directions algorithms. A particular emphasis is put on the conjugate gradient as well as conjugate gradient -like methods for non symmetric problems. Most efficient preconditioners used to speed up convergence are studied. A chapter is devoted to the multigrid method and the book ends with domain decomposition algorithms that are well suited for solving linear systems on parallel computers.
Book Synopsis Structural Analysis Systems by : A. Niku-Lari
Download or read book Structural Analysis Systems written by A. Niku-Lari and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Analysis Systems: Software—Hardware Capability—Compatibility—Applications, Volume 2 is a practical guidebook on structural analysis systems and their applications. It provides detailed information about a specific software, its postprocessor capabilities and limitations, computer-aided design connection, and compatibility with the most common computers. Several practical examples from industry with computer and user cost are given. This volume consists of 17 chapters and begins with a description of AFAG, a dual finite element analysis program based on the flexibility method. The discussion then turns to the AQUADYN system, designed primarily to reduce the hydrodynamics problem to a linear integral equation for large floating or immersed structures. The following chapters focus on other structural analysis computer programs such as BOSOR4 and BOSOR5, INFESA, MEF/MOSAIC, RCAFAG, and STRUGEN. Some general purpose and special purpose finite element programs used for stress analysis of composite materials are also considered. This book will be a useful resource for practitioners in scientific and industrial disciplines such as mechanical or civil engineering, informatics, applied mathematics, and computer science.
Book Synopsis Numerical Solution of Systems of Nonlinear Algebraic Equations by : George D. Byrne
Download or read book Numerical Solution of Systems of Nonlinear Algebraic Equations written by George D. Byrne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Solution of Systems of Nonlinear Algebraic Equations contains invited lectures of the NSF-CBMS Regional Conference on the Numerical Solution of Nonlinear Algebraic Systems with Applications to Problems in Physics, Engineering and Economics, held on July 10-14, 1972. This book is composed of 10 chapters and begins with the concepts of nonlinear algebraic equations in continuum mechanics. The succeeding chapters deal with the numerical solution of quasilinear elliptic equations, the nonlinear systems in semi-infinite programming, and the solution of large systems of linear algebraic equations. These topics are followed by a survey of some computational techniques for the nonlinear least squares problem. The remaining chapters explore the problem of nonlinear functional minimization, the modification methods, and the computer-oriented algorithms for solving system. These chapters also examine the principles of contractor theory of solving equations. This book will prove useful to undergraduate and graduate students.

Book Synopsis Iterative Solution of Large Sparse Systems of Equations by : Wolfgang Hackbusch
Download or read book Iterative Solution of Large Sparse Systems of Equations written by Wolfgang Hackbusch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second edition of this classic monograph, complete with four new chapters and updated references, readers will now have access to content describing and analysing classical and modern methods with emphasis on the algebraic structure of linear iteration, which is usually ignored in other literature. The necessary amount of work increases dramatically with the size of systems, so one has to search for algorithms that most efficiently and accurately solve systems of, e.g., several million equations. The choice of algorithms depends on the special properties the matrices in practice have. An important class of large systems arises from the discretization of partial differential equations. In this case, the matrices are sparse (i.e., they contain mostly zeroes) and well-suited to iterative algorithms. The first edition of this book grew out of a series of lectures given by the author at the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel to students of mathematics. The second edition includes quite novel approaches.
