Book excerpt: This meeting continues the series tradition of previous meetings by focussing on the recent changes in our understanding of the behaviour of atomic and molecular few body systems. The diversity of research areas represented at the meeting coupled to a common focal point, reveals different perspective on basic questions of interest, and exposes new conceptual approachs to the dynamics of few body problems. Special emphasis on topics such as collisional behaviour, threshold phenomena, recombination and photoionizations provides a broad overview of the field.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of the collisions between micro particles is of great importance for the number of fields belonging to physics, chemistry, astrophysics, biophysics etc. The present book, a theory for electron-atom and molecule collisions is developed using non-relativistic quantum mechanics in a systematic and lucid manner. The scattering theory is an essential part of the quantum mechanics course of all universities. During the last 30 years, the author has lectured on the topics presented in this book (collisions physics, photon-atom collisions, electron-atom and electron-molecule collisions, "electron-photon delayed coincidence technique", etc.) at many institutions including Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, The University of Western Ontario, Canada, and The Meerut University, India. The present book is the outcome of those lectures and is written to serve as a textbook for post-graduate and pre-PhD students and as a reference book for researchers.

Book Synopsis Coincidence Studies of Electron and Photon Impact Ionization by : C.T. Whelan

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great advantage of coincidence measurements is that by suitable choice of the kinematical and geometrical arrangement one may probe delicate physical effects which would be swamped in less differential experiments. The measurement of the triple dif ferential and higher-order cross sections presents enormous technical difficulties, but refined experiments of this type provide an insight into the subtleties of the scattering process and offer a welcome, if severe, test of the available theoretical models. The last few years have been an exciting time to work in the field and much has been learned. Profound insights have been gleaned into the basic Coulomb few body problem in atomic physics: the experimental study of the fundamental (e,2e) processes on hydrogen and helium targets continues to add to our knowledge and indeed to challenge the best of our theoretical models; significant advances have been made in the understanding of the "double excitation problem," that is the study of ionization processes with two active target electrons: important measurements of (e,3e), (,),,2e), excitation-ionization and excitation autoionization have been reported and strides have been made in their theoretical description; the longstanding discrepancies between theory and experiment for relativistic (e,2e) processes were resolved, spin dependent effects predicted and ob served and the first successful coincidence experiments on surfaces and thin films were announced. Theory and experiment have advanced in close consort. The papers pre sented here cover the whole gambit of research in the field. Much has been achieved but much remains to be done.

Book Synopsis Electron Collisions with Molecules, Clusters, and Surfaces by : H. Ehrhardt
Download or read book Electron Collisions with Molecules, Clusters, and Surfaces written by H. Ehrhardt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the invited papers and selected contributed papers presented at the biennial International Symposium on ELECTRON COLLISIONS WITH MOLECULES, CLUSTERS AND SURF ACES held at Royal Holloway, University of London from 29th to 30th July, 1993. This Symposium was a Satellite Meeting of the XVIII International Conference on the Physics of Electronic and Atomic Collisions (ICPEAC) and follows a 16 year tradition of Satellite Conferences in related areas of collisions held in association with previous ICPEAC's. In the past each of these electron -molecule symposia covered the broad field of electron-molecule scattering at rather low energies, but also included hot topics. This time as well as covering the whole field, well defined electron collisions with clusters and with particles in the complex potential of a surface were emphasized. Not many details are known about such collisions, although they become more and more important in surface characterisation, plasma-wall interactions, electron induced desorption and reorganisation of adsorbed particles. Recently, much work, theoretical and experimental, has been devoted to electron collisions with rather large carbon, silicon and halogen containing molecules. These problems are of relevance in plasma assisted thin film formation and etching of surfaces and can now be approached with advanced theoretical methods and experimental equipment.

Book Synopsis Collision Processes and Excitation of UV Emission from Planetary Atmospheric Gases by : SV Avakyan
Download or read book Collision Processes and Excitation of UV Emission from Planetary Atmospheric Gases written by SV Avakyan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-11 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few decades, the excitation and ionization of atmospheric gases has become an area of intense research. A large amount of data have been accumulated concerning the various elementary processes which occur when photons, electrons and ions collide with atoms and molecules. This scattered information has now been collected in a handbook for the first time, and the authors give a critical analysis of relevant data. This book is a comprehensive and detailed study of the available information and is distinguished by the following outstanding features: the consideration of a large number of atmospheric constituents, including H^O2, H, N^O2, N, O^O2, O, CO, CO^O2, H^O2O, HCl and some hydrocarbons the maximum number of space particles, including magnetospheric particles, are considered as projectiles: photons, electrons, hydrogen atoms, protons and helium ionsthe energy range under study corresponds to the real spectrum of cosmic fluxes, from threshold values for elementary processes up to several thousand keV the recommended values of cross sections, obtained from analysis of the available experimental data, are given in the handbook and their accuracy is estimated. These features make the handbook particularly valuable to specialists in the aeronomy of planets, comets and active perturbations, as well as to experimentalists and theoreticians working in the fields of plasma physics, atomic and molecular physics, physics of the upper atmosphere, chemical physics, optics and spectroscopy.
