Download or read book Mammoth Housing Development Plan and Environmental Assessment, February 1997 written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing employee housing for National Park Service (NPS) and concessioner personnel in Yellowstone National Park is deficient both in quantity and quality. Adequate employee housing is necessary for park employees to serve both visitors and to protect the park's resources. Inadequate employee housing lessens the ability of the NPS to fulfill its mission. Insufficient numbers of housing units are available to meet the current and future needs of park employees. By current estimates, more than two thirds of existing employee housing (parkwide), presently fails to meet basic health, safety, sanitary, electrical, and building codes. The purpose of this document is to provide alternatives for: 1) removal of substandard housing units, and 2) construction of new housing on park land. The proposed housing sites are located in two separate areas of the park. One of the proposed sites is adjacent to Gardiner, Montana, near the North Entrance of Yellowstone (Gardiner/North Entrance and is known as the 'School Site'. The other proposed development sites are located near the Mammoth Hot Springs (Mammoth), Wyoming area of Yellowstone. These sites are referred to as 'Fort Yellowstone', 'Lower Mammoth' and the 'Young Adult Conservation Corps Camp (YACC Camp)' sites. Four housing alternatives are presented in this environmental assessment. The proposed alternatives range from No Action to full development of each of the proposed housing sites. New housing development proposed under this plan would be performed in accordance with the plan entitled :Vegetation Management for Construction in Yellowstone National Park", a copy of which is provided in Appendix A. Estimated construction costs for each alternative are provided in Appendix B. The four proposed housing alternatives are summarized below. -Summary.

He describes the harshness and casualties of the mines. He joins the Air Force and learns that his supervisors forgot his training needs for promotions, and he must grasp the situation himself to make his own way in life. Travel with him as his Air Force career takes you to northern Maine, the Arctic Circle for two months of total darkness and freezing temperatures, the burning deserts of French Morocco, the jungles of Panama, through Central and South America then back to the hustle of the New York City area. The hunting and fishing trips themselves will keep you on the edge of your chair or lying beside it laughing. He settles in Colorado after retirement and, after trying three different jobs, settles on police work with the Department of Defense for a second career. His trip is historical, adventurous, humorous, educational, and real. Emotions run high in the pursuit of the ideal job, and happiness in retirement.
Book Synopsis Missing Middle Housing by : Daniel G. Parolek
Download or read book Missing Middle Housing written by Daniel G. Parolek and published by Island Press. This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, there is a tremendous mismatch between the available housing stock in the US and the housing options that people want and need. The post-WWII, auto-centric, single-family-development model no longer meets the needs of residents. Urban areas in the US are experiencing dramatically shifting household and cultural demographics and a growing demand for walkable urban living. Missing Middle Housing, a term coined by Daniel Parolek, describes the walkable, desirable, yet attainable housing that many people across the country are struggling to find. Missing Middle Housing types—such as duplexes, fourplexes, and bungalow courts—can provide options along a spectrum of affordability. In Missing Middle Housing, Parolek, an architect and urban designer, illustrates the power of these housing types to meet today’s diverse housing needs. With the benefit of beautiful full-color graphics, Parolek goes into depth about the benefits and qualities of Missing Middle Housing. The book demonstrates why more developers should be building Missing Middle Housing and defines the barriers cities need to remove to enable it to be built. Case studies of built projects show what is possible, from the Prairie Queen Neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska to the Sonoma Wildfire Cottages, in California. A chapter from urban scholar Arthur C. Nelson uses data analysis to highlight the urgency to deliver Missing Middle Housing. Parolek proves that density is too blunt of an instrument to effectively regulate for twenty-first-century housing needs. Complete industries and systems will have to be rethought to help deliver the broad range of Missing Middle Housing needed to meet the demand, as this book shows. Whether you are a planner, architect, builder, or city leader, Missing Middle Housing will help you think differently about how to address housing needs for today’s communities.
