Book Synopsis The World Gas Trade by : Melvin A Conant
Download or read book The World Gas Trade written by Melvin A Conant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proximity of vast reserves of natural gas to the great energy-consuming markets of the world, the relative environmental harmlessness of gas, and its competitive price make the use of gas increasingly attractive to an energy-hungry world. Within the next two decades we will see the use of gas and gas-related technologies expand in industrialized nations as well as among developing countries. An international group of authorities on the political economy of natural gas analyzes the key factors influencing present gas supplies and uses and looks to the future, when new logistic systems and technological advances will affect both producers and consumers. The basic political, economic, and security considerations of energy will undergo a concomitant change in response to the increased availability and affordability of gas. In most markets, government monopolies direct the gas trade; in North America there will be a renewed role for private enterprise. Japan may also find its position greatly altered; although there are at present no pipeline connections to suppliers, and Japan is currently dependent on far-away sources of liquified natural gas, the contributors predict that future gas links to East Asia are highly likely. The World Gas Trade explores the growing gas trade, anticipating that within the next several decades the foundation will have been laid for gas-fueled economies to displace oil-based economies in the world system.

Book Synopsis CE Marking, Product Standards and World Trade by : David Hanson
Download or read book CE Marking, Product Standards and World Trade written by David Hanson and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CE Marking, the European system of mandatory product safety standards, has created major obstacles for US exporters to the European Union (EU). CE Marking, Product Standards and World Trade is one of the first books to analyze the nature and dynamics of this major non-tariff trade barrier. David Hanson looks at the patterns of EU decision-making through a functional comparative analysis with the US, and in the context of the institutional alliances and rivalries that shape outcomes. An increasingly important but little understood issue, CE Marking is also an example of a growing problem in international commerce - the impact of inconsistent domestic product requirements on international trade. The author examines the way in which the EU has implemented the CE Marking system, its impact on US exporters, the dynamic of US - EU trade and negotiations, and the political and administrative arrangements that support them. This comprehensive study will be of great interest to students and scholars of industrial economics and international business. Business people and policymakers will also find much of interest in this timely volume.
Book Synopsis The Economics of the Gas Supply Industry by : Malcolm Abbott
Download or read book The Economics of the Gas Supply Industry written by Malcolm Abbott and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-12 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, natural gas has become a major source of energy, with trade across borders increasing through both pipelines and as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Owing to this global development, this book traces the development of the gas supply industry, from localised to national industries and national industries to a major global industry. It looks at the basic economics and origins of the industry, as well as the role of the government in its development and relation to international markets. The book highlights certain economic characteristics such as the industry’s vertical and horizontal structure, the composition of consumer demand and the role of government in safety, planning and investment. With the understanding of the industry's long term development, the book helps to illustrate the relationship between natural gas producers and importers of LNG. This book would be of interest to scholars majoring in resource economics and energy economics, as well as to international practitioners in the natural gas market.
Book Synopsis Trading Natural Gas by : Fletcher J. Sturm

Book excerpt: This how to book covers the various mechanics of natural gas trading, including the physical (cash) market for natural gas production, transportation, distribution, and consumption. It has been 23 years since Trading Natural Gas: A Nontechnical Guide was released, and many things have changed: electronic trading, power market deregulation, fracking and the shale revolution, pipelines reversing flow patterns, and LNG exports from the United States. In this second edition, the author addresses these changes, beginning with a deeper dive into the natural gas market fundamentals of supply, demand, storage, and transportation, maintaining a focus on the relationship to market pricing. Following discussion of the mechanics of trading physical natural gas, the heart of the text remains a study of financial derivative products specific to natural gas trading, presented through definitions and trading examples. Many of these products and concepts are still current and have been refreshed and kept intact. New material on the role of natural gas in the power market as it relates to fuel- switching and economic dispatch, as well as a survey of the global LNG market and US exports, is included in this second edition to bring in two of the biggest factors influencing prices in today's market. Additional statistics, tables, graphs and suggested spreadsheet templates have been provided throughout the book to help visualize many of the discussions on data.
