All chapters are written by experts in the area and contain a large bibliography.
Book Synopsis An Excursion Through Discrete Differential Geometry by : American Mathematical Society. Short Course, Discrete Differential Geometry
Download or read book An Excursion Through Discrete Differential Geometry written by American Mathematical Society. Short Course, Discrete Differential Geometry and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-09-02 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discrete Differential Geometry (DDG) is an emerging discipline at the boundary between mathematics and computer science. It aims to translate concepts from classical differential geometry into a language that is purely finite and discrete, and can hence be used by algorithms to reason about geometric data. In contrast to standard numerical approximation, the central philosophy of DDG is to faithfully and exactly preserve key invariants of geometric objects at the discrete level. This process of translation from smooth to discrete helps to both illuminate the fundamental meaning behind geometric ideas and provide useful algorithmic guarantees. This volume is based on lectures delivered at the 2018 AMS Short Course ``Discrete Differential Geometry,'' held January 8-9, 2018, in San Diego, California. The papers in this volume illustrate the principles of DDG via several recent topics: discrete nets, discrete differential operators, discrete mappings, discrete conformal geometry, and discrete optimal transport.
Book Synopsis Acta Numerica 1992: Volume 1 by : Arieh Iserles
Download or read book Acta Numerica 1992: Volume 1 written by Arieh Iserles and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-04-24 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acta Numerica is an annual volume presenting survey papers in numerical analysis. Each year the editorial board selects significant topics and invites papers from authors who have made notable contributions to the development of that topic. The articles are intended to summarize the field at a level accessible to graduate students and researchers. Acta Numerica is a valuable tool not only for researchers and professionals wishing to develop their understanding of the subject and follow developments, but also as an advanced teaching aid at colleges and universities. This volume was originally published in 1992.
Book Synopsis Geometric, Control and Numerical Aspects of Nonholonomic Systems by : Jorge Cortés Monforte
Download or read book Geometric, Control and Numerical Aspects of Nonholonomic Systems written by Jorge Cortés Monforte and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-10-19 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonholonomic systems are a widespread topic in several scientific and commercial domains, including robotics, locomotion and space exploration. This work sheds new light on this interdisciplinary character through the investigation of a variety of aspects coming from several disciplines. The main aim is to illustrate the idea that a better understanding of the geometric structures of mechanical systems unveils new and unknown aspects to them, and helps both analysis and design to solve standing problems and identify new challenges. In this way, separate areas of research such as Classical Mechanics, Differential Geometry, Numerical Analysis or Control Theory are brought together in this study of nonholonomic systems.

Download or read book Geometric and Numerical Foundations of Movements written by Jean-Paul Laumond and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-02 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims at gathering roboticists, control theorists, neuroscientists, and mathematicians, in order to promote a multidisciplinary research on movement analysis. It follows the workshop “ Geometric and Numerical Foundations of Movements ” held at LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse in November 2015[1]. Its objective is to lay the foundations for a mutual understanding that is essential for synergetic development in motion research. In particular, the book promotes applications to robotics --and control in general-- of new optimization techniques based on recent results from real algebraic geometry.
