All businesses should prioritize the interests of all stakeholders and not just the financial interests of shareholders. Triple bottom line principle: businesses should focus on not just financial performance, but also social and environmental performance. The triple bottom line framework includes measuring a company's success based on its economic, social, and environmental impact.

Book excerpt: Today, there are deep and rapid changes on companies, employees, and the global economy that should not be underestimated, and future world leaders must be prepared to lead in a manner that is socially responsible, ethical, and pro_ table. A corporation with a business model that polarizes or operates solely in the interest of its shareholders is unsustainable and current benchmarks can be unrealistic tools for businesses to rely upon as measures of future success. This book explores historical data, analyzes current events from the world stage, and delivers a worldview that challenges some existing paradigms in business. As we are living business history, the book draws from the epic economic, environmental, and cultural shifts in our collective consciousness. It begins a vital conversation by introducing some thought paradigms that will challenge current business practices, create a vision for the future, and provide a road map to navigate this uncharted territory. In the end, the author outlines specific action that you must take now to end the economic and moral decline in this first part of the 21st century.

Book excerpt: In today's business context, working spirituality has become most remarkable aspects of the organizational culture. The frequent conversation about spirituality at the workplace has uplifted the consciousness of the ethical responsibility among the corporate citizens. The sense of responsibility within the employees has been widely upgraded by the spiritual values, which directly made an impact on the overall development of the productivity as well as the organizational growth. However, the advancement of spirituality at workplace is extensively based on an individual responsibility towards the framework of a monastic work environment to enhance the spiritual consciousness and intellectual growth. In addition, to develop the ethical leaders in the workplace, the practice of spirituality is essential in daily organizational routine. According to 'Walter Earl Fluker' in his expert theory stated that spirituality demands that leaders should propagate and nurture the sense of self that perceive the interrelatedness of self, life or the sense of commonality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost weekly we hear about corporate and government leaders breaching ethical and moral standards. Indeed, in recent years, corporate corruption and the misrepresentation of the truth has, at times, appeared overwhelming. At the very least, corporate and government scandals suggest that we have a crisis in leadership. This research investigated what some leaders in the corporate arena, who self-identify as having a strong spiritual foundation, had to say about the impact of their foundation on how they approached leadership, in general, and ethical issues, in particular. The research questions that guided this study were: (1) how did self-identified spiritual corporate leaders describe their spirituality? (2) what spiritual practices did they use to develop their spirituality? and (3) what leaders, who claim to have a rich spiritual life, say about the impact of spirituality on their ethical leadership practice? The results of this research mirrored that of Mitroff and Denton (1999). All of the individuals who participated in this research study explained that their spirituality was an important part of their leadership practice. Also the framework of spirituality in their leadership practice provided guidance in making moral and ethical decisions. What is interesting is that the results were the same in spite of different religious affiliations, and included those who did not identify with an organized religion. These findings suggest that it is imperative for MBA programs to address ethical issues from a spiritual perspective while steering clear of sectarian commitments.

Book excerpt: Maximizing the Triple Bottom Line through Spiritual Leadership draws on the emerging fields of workplace spirituality and spiritual leadership to teach leaders and their constituencies how to develop business models that address issues of ethical leadership, employee well-being, sustainability, and social responsibility without sacrificing profitability, growth, and other metrics of performance excellence. While this text identifies and discusses the characteristics necessary to be a leader, its major focus is on leadership—engaging stakeholders and enabling groups of people to work together in the most meaningful ways. The authors offer real-world examples of for-profit and non-profit organizations that have spiritual leaders and which have implemented organizational spiritual leadership. These cases are based on over ten years of research, supported by the International Institute of Spiritual Leadership, that demonstrates the value of the Spiritual Leadership Balanced Scorecard Business Model presented in the book. "Pracademic" in its orientation, the book presents a general process and tools for implementing the model.

Book excerpt: The book - which was originally published by Kluwer in 2004 - is a collection of scholarly papers focusing on the role of spirituality and ethics in renewing the contemporary management praxis. The basic argument is that a more inclusive, holistic and peaceful approach to management is needed if business and political leaders are to uplift the environmentally degrading and socially disintegrating world of our age. The book uses diverse value-perspectives (Hindu, Catholic, Buddhist, and Humanist) and a variety of disciplines (philosophy, ethics, management studies, psychology, and organizational sciences) to extend traditional reflections on corporate purpose and focuses on a self-referential organizational-existential search for meaning, identity and success.

This book was released on 2023-11-25 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fr. Gerald F. Cavanagh, S.J. has been widely recognized as one of the founders of the field of business ethics, as well as a leader in bringing Catholic Social Teaching to bear on this academic discipline. One of his principal insights has been that business, as the most powerful agency in society, can and should be a force for positive societal change, rather than deferring that responsibility to government. This volume collects his most significant contributions to the discipline, from the mid-1960s to the early 2020s, into a single, convenient reference work. To show the development of his thought on various issues pertaining to the broad subject of business ethics, the chapters are organized into five major themes: diversity, equity, and inclusion; the dignity of work, personal values and spirituality in the workplace; ethical norms and organizational values; corporate social responsibility; and business ethics in the college curriculum.
