Book excerpt: Dear friend, We know it deeply. It is so hard to juggle work, home, and spiritual life. As working women, we've wrestled with tough questions: · How can I be effective in my work, and stay committed to the Gospel? · How can I be dedicated to my family, when my job is so demanding? · Why am I working so hard, and still so unfulfilled? Sound familiar? Like you, we see a culture that promotes success at all costs, and working women are falling for it. It's happening every day. Priorities are shifting. Things are getting done . . . but are we doing what matters most? And that's why we wrote this book. This is the story of how we traded the lies of the world for the truth of our loving Father--the lessons we learned that challenged culture's "good things" so we could find the greatest thing. The book you're holding in your hands is really a conversation--a conversation that pushes back against our culture with a Gospel-centered approach to work and womanhood, for the glory of God and the good of others. Let's get to work. His way. Michelle + Somer "This is the book for every working woman!"--ALLI WORTHINGTON, bestselling author and business coach

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merlin Nichols tried to make it on his own. He worried about his salvation and whether he was good enough. Perhaps like you or someone you know, he preached, held church offices, and was outwardly faithful to the church, but he was spiritually dead. That is, until Paul’s message of grace to the Ephesians hit him between the eyes and changed him forever. The Long Road to Grace: Confessions of a Slow Learner is an in-depth examination of Ephesians and its timeless message of grace that was needed in the early Christian church and is needed today. With a passion for helping the spiritually dead come back to life, Merlin examines the letter Paul wrote to Ephesus in light of the Bible as a whole. Taking the letter verse by verse, in the author’s own words, and sharing stories from his life experiences, you will discover new insights into Paul’s powerful message of the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the life-changing transformation that takes place when one fully submits to God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For all who are wondering how the pieces fit into the jigsaw of God's revelation, Colin Smith has provided an answer, which is refreshingly simple, biblically accurate, and will prove phenomenally helpful to the serious Bible student and the new beginner alike. — Alistair Begg, senior pastor, Parkside Church In Unlocking the Bible Story, Colin Smith moves gradually through portions of the Bible to explain how it all holds together. He tells God's one grand story of salvation and reflects on major themes along the way. In volume 2 he moves through the Wisdom and Prophetic books, which provide reflections on life with God, judgment for sin, and the hope of restoration. Includes the study guide formerly sold separately. One of the most urgent needs in the church today is for a crisp and comprehensive knowledge of the Bible's storyline. To grasp how the sacred history moves from Genesis to Revelation not only brings fresh insight into how the Bible hangs together, and what each part contributes to the whole, but also is crucial for developing a Christian worldview. Colin Smith has met these needs admirably. I hope these volumes will circulate widely and be read and re-read. — D. A. Carson, research professor New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, cofounder of The Gospel Coalition

It underscores how life will not always present success as we view it, but life itself is a gift to be used for success. It also examines the unconventional and even mysterious ways that God allows dreamers to gain and grow in wisdom, knowledge and understanding through both great opportunities and great disappointments. What is success, what does it look like when we get there? Simply stated it is the lessons learned risking failure. Book Synopsis The Voice of Jesus by : Stephen I. Wright
Download or read book The Voice of Jesus written by Stephen I. Wright and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores what it means to seek the voice of Jesus in his parables through the interpretive keys of literary tropes. Through a detailed discussion of significant periods of parable interpretation, with reference to six narrative parables peculiar to Luke's Gospel, it demonstrates the continued necessity of a creative response to an intention when confronted with figures of speech. Drawing on the long tradition of interpretation, a fresh hearing of the tone of the parables as exemplary tales is suggested, rooted in both the conditions of Jesus's contemporary culture and the Old Testament Scriptures.

Can Marcus overcome the pull of the Gorgon’s gaze, and use her power for good? Because he received that box for a reason – but he must find out what it is, before the terrible, beautiful Medusa turns everyone he holds dear to stone . . . and then comes for him. Book Synopsis What's Age Got To Do With It? by : Louise Morse
Download or read book What's Age Got To Do With It? written by Louise Morse and published by Monarch Books. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you think that being old is about having a rocking chair and an easy life style, think again. You're looking through the binoculars backwards. What's Age Got To Do With It? turns the lenses the right way around and gives a clear, Scriptural view of God's purpose for old age. When He created the universe, God set in motion times and seasons and the ageing process. Old age was part of His plan from the beginning - that people should ripen to maturity, developing wisdom through a lifetime of experience and relationship with Him, eventually enriching others with attributes that have been honed over lifetimes. But instead of contributing as God intended, many see themselves as "useless" and are afraid of being a burden. Ageism has destroyed their self-image and expectations, and they give up and become passive - and we are all the losers. Here are stories of many people living full, purpose-driven lives well into their 90s and even 100s. For example, you'll meet the lay preacher who wrote a book at 100 years of age because he couldn't stand long enough to preach, and the 95-year-old who organized more Christian support from local churches for his care home, as well as many ordinary people who are making a difference to the lives of those around them. What's Age Got To Do With It? shows how to take off the reins and live the way God intended from the beginning.
Book Synopsis Purpose and Providence by : Vernon White
Download or read book Purpose and Providence written by Vernon White and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do our lives have purpose? Despite the rise of secularism, we are still confronted by a sense of meaning and direction in the events of history and our own lives - something which is beyond us and not our own creation/imagination. Using the novels of Thomas Hardy and Julian Barnes, Vernon White tracks this belief in intellectual history and tests its resilience in modern literature. Both novelists portray modern and late-modern scenarios where, although the idea of an objective purpose has been deconstructed, it still haunts the protagonists. Using literature as the starting point, the discussion moves on to an exploration of this belief in its theological form, through the doctrine of providence. White critically reviews the classic canon of providence and its pressure points - the problems in divine causality, the metaphysical assumptions required in its acceptance, and the contradictions to be found between God's purpose and the metanarratives of history. Using Barth and Frei, White suggests new ways of re-imagining divine providence to take account of these issues. The credibility of this re-defined providence is then tested against scripture, experience and praxis, with the result being an understanding of providence that does not rely on empirical progress.
Download or read book Be My Guest written by C. Thomas Hilton and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Words, words, words," said Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady", "I'm so sick of words. Words can be tiresome." Jesus' actions spoke louder than words on the cross and in the Lord's Supper. There are about four thousand dialects in the world, and the words used to communicate meaning are often misunderstood. Body language is usually more explicit. "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." (I Cor. 11:24). I hope you will see Jesus Christ in his body language on the cross, in the Lord's Supper, and in these sermons. C. Thomas Hilton First Presbyterian Church Pompano Beach, Florida
