Book excerpt: The author objectively and incisively asks questions of general interest about beliefs and practices of the major religions, and about phenomena in nature; and he uses his imagination to explore possible ramifications of the answers. He finds wondrous mysteries in simple things, hoping to arouse your curiosity, and to get you thinking and wondering about them too. In fourteen independent stand-alone topics with no prerequisites and with negligible overlap, he wonders such things as: ? Should the Bible include Books of Mohammed and Mormon? ? In heaven, are there strata whose benefits depend on how worthy their inhabitants are; and might hell be a stratum completely lacking Gods benefits, rather than a place of severe torment; and purgatory a higher stratum with less severe torment? ? Are ghosts, spirits and souls real, and, if so, are they the same thing? ? Are miracles only unusual natural occurrences for which we have no explanations?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God seeks our attention and relationship in so many ways. Figuring out how to notice, listen, and respond to God as we move through the daily exercises of our life is the stuff of our spiritual journey. For centuries we have practiced and shared some of our favorite and most fulfilling methods for relating with God and allowing that partnership to inform and transform our lives. Some methods work better than others. Probably the best for each of us are ones we tailor to meet our individual needs. In Wednesday Wonderings Gary Nelson invites the reader into his own spiritual journey through the lens of the camera he carries with him. He has experimented with many methods and discovered that the camera lens often provides him one of the best means to notice, listen, and respond to God. The camera offers the opportunity to wonder about life lived in relationship with God and others. Through the process this pastor and pastoral counselor's devotions, called Wednesday Wonderings, offer helpful insights for life and an invitation for all of us to find our own means to wonder.

Book Synopsis Wistful Wonderings by : Jane Mellingen
Download or read book Wistful Wonderings written by Jane Mellingen and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-11-06 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I love nature, writing, and music! Nature and my writing always work together. The Cottage in the Wood is a short story in an unknown country in a time of long ago. Analina, one of the two main characters, goes out into a most unusual and beautiful forest. It is a forest where Analina looks for her own true self and is also looking for a true friend. It is also a Christmas story. In Les Poèmes I have written several poems. They are a search for meaning in life in the Universe and on the Earth. There are quite a few poems about a troubadour and a poetess. These poems have much to do with nature and genuine love. The troubadour, of course, sings his songs. This poetry is rather mystical, and some of it relates to God. Some of it, I would say, is quite simple, but a lot of thought has gone into it. When I write any story or poetry at all, it comes to me. I can never force it. It either comes, or it does not come. Of course, I have to work with it quite a lot, but I cannot exactly explain to you how it happens. I am not certain what the driving force is that sparks the creativity.

Book Synopsis Powering Up Children by : Guy Claxton
Download or read book Powering Up Children written by Guy Claxton and published by Crown House Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2018-12-20 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Powering Up Children: The Learning Power Approach to primary teaching, Guy Claxton and Becky Carlzon harness the design principles of the Learning Power Approach (LPA) to provide a rich resource of effective teaching strategies for use in the primary school classroom. Foreword by Ron Berger. The LPA is a way of teaching which aims to develop all children as confident and capable learners ready, willing, and able to choose, design, research, pursue, troubleshoot, and evaluate learning for themselves, alone and with others, in school and out. This approach therefore empowers teachers to complement their delivery of content, knowledge, and skills with the nurturing of positive habits of mind that will better prepare students to flourish in later life. Building upon the foundations carefully laid in The Learning Power Approach (ISBN 9781785832451), the first book in the Learning Power series, Guy Claxton and Becky Carlzon's Powering Up Children embeds the ideas of this influential method in the context of the primary school. It offers a thorough explanation of how the LPA's design principles apply to this level of education and, by presenting a wide range of practical strategies and classroom examples, illustrates how they can be put into action with different age groups and in different curricular areas especially relating to literacy and numeracy, but also in specific subjects such as science, history, art, and PE. Bursting with tips and techniques to get students' learning muscles stretching from a young age, the book is designed for busy primary school teachers who want to get started on the LPA journey as well as for those who have already made good progress and are looking for fresh ideas. The central chapters are structured around thematic clusters of the LPA's design principles, and follow a common format: 1. First, the authors explain why the design principles focused on are important; including what's in it for the teacher and what's in it for the children. 2. Next, they offer a menu of practical low-risk tweaks to classroom practice that enable teachers to engage with the design principles and experience some quick wins. 3. Then they provide some ideas about how to embed the principles more deeply in the ongoing life of the classroom including some rich lesson examples from across the primary age range, and from different school subjects. 4. Finally, they address some of the common bumps and issues that may crop up along the way, and offer advice to help teachers overcome such potential obstacles. Suitable for both newly qualified and experienced teachers of learners aged 3 to 11.

Download or read book Being With Leaders' Guide written by Samuel Wells and published by Canterbury Press. This book was released on 2022-09-26 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Being With course is an introduction to Christianity with a difference. At its heart is the idea that God’s greatest desire is to be with us in Jesus. Grounded in the conviction that we already have a wealth of understanding of truth, beauty and goodness that signify God’s presence in our lives and everyday experiences, it aims to enable participants to discover dimensions of this presence and to live abundantly with God, with one another and with creation. This Leaders’ Guide provides: • an introduction to the theological perspective underpinning the course; • an explanation of its structure and an overview of each session; • practical guidelines for leading a group; • complete materials for hosting its ten 90-minute sessions in person or online. The sessions focus on the themes of Meaning; Essence; Jesus; Church; Bible; Mission; Cross; Prayer; Suffering and Resurrection. Drawing on the practices of Godly Play, the course uses storytelling, wondering and reflection to encourage and welcome the insights that each person brings. The Being With course was devised and created by Samuel Wells and Sally Hitchiner. It is one of many initiatives of St Martin-in-the-Fields, alongside HeartEdge, the Nazareth Community, the classical music and arts programmes and work with those experiencing homelessness. Located in London’s Trafalgar Square, St Martin’s is a community of hope, transforming church and society through commerce, culture, compassion and congregational life.
