Delving into such subjects as the separation of church and state in the United States, the domination of the state by religion in Iran, and the control of religion by the state in China, this survey illuminates cultural differences. This book gives a revealing look at the numerous relationships between religion and politics. In the Church of England, for example, the 26 most senior Anglican bishops have seats in the House of Lords. Religion and Politics also includes biographical sketches of thinkers and doers whose careers intersected religion and politics in significant ways, from the Berrigan brothers to Osama bin Laden. Also included are data and quotes, a directory of politically active religious groups, and a 150 page annotated bibliography.

TIME also explores Jefferson’s enduring influence on our culture, as the founding father of American architecture, our higher education system and the slow food movement--and even planting the seeds for America’s modern, flourishing wine industry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a powerful challenge to conventional wisdom, Philip Hamburger argues that the separation of church and state has no historical foundation in the First Amendment. The detailed evidence assembled here shows that eighteenth-century Americans almost never invoked this principle. Although Thomas Jefferson and others retrospectively claimed that the First Amendment separated church and state, separation became part of American constitutional law only much later. Hamburger shows that separation became a constitutional freedom largely through fear and prejudice. Jefferson supported separation out of hostility to the Federalist clergy of New England. Nativist Protestants (ranging from nineteenth-century Know Nothings to twentieth-century members of the K.K.K.) adopted the principle of separation to restrict the role of Catholics in public life. Gradually, these Protestants were joined by theologically liberal, anti-Christian secularists, who hoped that separation would limit Christianity and all other distinct religions. Eventually, a wide range of men and women called for separation. Almost all of these Americans feared ecclesiastical authority, particularly that of the Catholic Church, and, in response to their fears, they increasingly perceived religious liberty to require a separation of church from state. American religious liberty was thus redefined and even transformed. In the process, the First Amendment was often used as an instrument of intolerance and discrimination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It will simplify & expedite your search for God! The author is a relatively new Christian who has spent time acquiring life-changing information about Christianity. A new Christian usually takes the time to research that which they doubted for most of their lives, to verify it. They have a “show me” attitude and do not “take my word for it” from anyone. Thus they accept only researched information backed up with documented facts and established evidence. Knowledge gained from contemporary Christian scholars, the Bible and really revealing common sense have been used to at the least evoke emotions and a desire to learn more, and at the most for the reader to gain salvation using information that can be researched by looking for it in just about any history book, this book, or from the Bible itself. This book has no agenda nor desire to offend anyone’s beliefs, but rather verifying our belief through research. This was done to verify for the author, his family and anyone else that is searching for God. God is one, not a combination of many religions that contradict each other. God is not associated with contradictions or deceit, and there is just one religion with a living founder thus one religion is true while frankly the rest aren’t. This should bother no one that is after finding the real God and it should not matter which of the religions He truly resides in. Just that He resides. Mankind should simply be concerned with who God is, not being the person who has the right religion. The “right” religion is where God resides, not where we want Him to reside. This book will show that the evidence for the location and identity of God are extremely simple, and easy to find.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It often happens that people compromise their faith to suit their lifestyle. Their black and white sense of right and wrong gets trapped in a gray area. In NO COMPROMISE, founder and president of Family Policy Institute (FPI), Errol Naidoo, maintains that the major reason for the moral decline in the world today is the lack of conviction and commitment of Christians to be salt and light in society. Even though prayer is the foundation of everything a Christian does, NO COMPROMISE states that Christians shouldn’t “just pray” and not engage in politics and social issues. Naidoo spurs readers on not only to be people of prayer, but also people of action. They should adjust their lifestyle according to their faith, no compromise!
