After losing her job, boyfriend and flat just a few weeks before Christmas, Ellie Lancaster makes some resolutions: 1. Exact revenge on ex. 2. Be unboring. 3. Find a job. With #1 complete, Ellie manages to tick off #2 and #3 simultaneously by accepting a mysterious archiving job on a tiny Scottish Island that doesn't seem to exist on any map. In the new year, her equally new bosses - celebrity baker Clementine Jones and her straight-laced twin brother Cole - introduce Ellie to the archives: a vast network of underground caverns, filled with scrolls dating back centuries, each addressed to the same person, in a multitude of languages: Dear Father Christmas . . . Despite the strangeness of it all, Ellie quickly falls in love with her new life - but things are never simple, and just as she and Cole seem to be overcoming their mutual distrust, Ellie makes a fourth resolution - one that threatens everything she's come to hold dear. As the big day itself draws near, she has one chance to put things right and bring about her own Christmas miracle . . . 'A heart-warming, magical story, bright with festive folklore and kindness, perfect to cosy up with this winter' Sophie Anderson, author of The House with Chicken Legs and The Girl Who Speaks Bear

Book excerpt: One word, plastic. Kidding. One word, connections. The stories, zany; the titles rhyme. Humans trying to tie everything together. Our portfolio includes an Easter boy and the crazed egg caper. A lizard man and more on the way. Waiter, there's an eye in my martini. And surprises in Orb's lab. Flies use their 'branes. Macy's Christmas window gets soaped. Ants get philosophical. There are Sing Sing criminals, and King Kong down to the Sweetie Burger. Love lasts forever. Yeah, well. Summer giggles; autumn ashes. The secret of an old friend I'm not thrilled to tell you. So, open the book, let the denizens breathe. It's getting cramped in there. And lonely. Kind of worrisome, and they have stuff to say. Okay?

Book excerpt: The central teaching of life with God is the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus invites us to turn, shine, change, offer, desire, relate positively, watch out, build. I hope you will wind up compelled to read and meditate and pray through the Sermon for the rest of your life, like I will have to. As a part of that process, I hope you will walk with me through the words of Jesus to discover the things we can do to open ourselves up to Him, to let Him give us His own spirituality. It may not always be easy, but it will be a trip worth taking.

Book Synopsis Fairies, Sorcery, and the Titans by : Donald R. Richter
Download or read book Fairies, Sorcery, and the Titans written by Donald R. Richter and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about a guy named Jack that was touched by the hand of God, given powers of the Greek Gods to save the World from being over thrown by the original Titians. He found Merlin and gave him the white power of the Gods accidently; Merlin has always been a Red Guardian taking care of the red fairy. In this book the mother of the Gods Gaia an angel took human form and had children with an angel Pontus who also took human form. Now Zeus and Poseidon are working with him. He went down to purgatory to help get Hades, back in power so Hades owes him. Odin and the Norse Gods try to kill him, the Gods of Olympus are not on their side either. There are some twists and turns, they take down Typhon, and Prometheus, and Skadi. Venus and Calypso and The Lady of the Lake are released. The Blue fairies are stopped from taking over the world, at Stonehedge. (Those are the bad ones.) They find Bobba-Yaga, and bring her out of Russia, with her apprentice. It is a different way to look at the Gods of old. Enjoy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in rural southern Alabama, imagination was the key to childhood. Moving to Birmingham in the mid 1950s in the midst of the civil rights movement, with a father who was a fiery Nazarene minister, lead to a sheltered, strict upbringing with deep roots in religious beliefs and a deeper passion for an expressive outlet through the flow of words into poetry. Starting when life was young and innocent and telling the stories of life past, you will laugh or cry as you are carried through emotions that are universal. You will travel through an array of numerous life experiences and feel the joys and heartbreaks along the way. This is a look at those experiences from many perspectives, touching the very roots from which each poem springs. Like life that comes full circle with mortality, something we all face in our own way, this book concludes by addressing those feelings. It is poetry that is whimsical, emotional, sentimental, and at times thought-provoking, yet it is an inspiring read that will leave you yearning to return. Life is a fragile thingAs are its dreamsYet the spectrum of mans existence can be encompassed fluently through poetry.

Book excerpt: I need this promotion. Too bad I have to temporarily move to a small town to prove I deserve it. And, it’s not as easy as I thought it would be. My car? Ends up in a ditch. A hot shower? Interrupted by a snake. Not to mention the quiet. How do people fall asleep without background noise? The only good thing about Asheville is the mechanic that comes to my rescue and offers to fix my car. He’s playful, kind, and promises he’s not looking for a relationship, which is great since I won’t be here long. He can show me everything this town has to offer, including “other activities”…with no strings attached. But how can I keep my eye on the prize when he’s looking at me like I’m his?
Book Synopsis Le Morte Darthur: Selections by : Sir Thomas Malory
Download or read book Le Morte Darthur: Selections written by Sir Thomas Malory and published by Broadview Press. This book was released on 2014-10-06 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguably no medieval English literary work has had as far and wide a reach as Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte Darthur; among the many adaptations are Tennyson’s Idylls of the King, T.H. White’s The Once and Future King, and the Lerner and Loewe musical Camelot. It might also be argued that the late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century tradition of fantasy literature—from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings to George Lucas’s Star Wars and beyond—owes much to the Arthurian tradition, rooted in English most strongly in Malory’s Morte Darthur. Yet there has been no edition that draws on the results of the past generation’s scholarship while presenting Malory’s work in a form that is at once true to the original and accessible to the modern reader. This new edition, which expands on the revised and expanded selection of Malory material that will be included in the third edition of The Broadview Anthology of British Literature, is all of those things. The extensive selections include most of the material concerning Launcelot, and all of the Morte’s two final tales; the language has been partially modernized to make the text accessible to the modern reader, while retaining the flavor of the original; the text has been carefully prepared from the Winchester manuscript; and the annotations are extensive.
