Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have spent a lifetime wildfowling and involved in shooting and fieldsports. Wildfowling has been in my family for over a hundred years, it’s in my blood. I have a passion for punt gunning and have also spent the last year breeding award winning gun dogs, particularly Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. I decided to write this book as quite often I would find myself relaying some of my wildfowling, punt gunning, shooting and dog breeding stories and advice to friends and people I have met. It dawned on me that I had a wealth of experience and stories that I would like to share with others. I have put together this book to give you an insight into the world of wildfowling, fieldsports, punt gunning and dog breeding that I have gained over the years. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have enjoyed putting it all down on paper. I’ve included some interesting and humorous stories as well from over the years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wildfowling is the most romantic, exciting and challenging of all the field sports. All wildfowlers have a little poetry in their souls. The majority of fowlers are thoroughgoing individualists. A typical wildfowler is a true hunter, bred and born - a lone wolf pitting his wits and knowledge against the wiles of some of the wariest and fastest birds on earth. Taking all this into account it is no surprise that wildfowling has fascinated a great many well known writers as well as inspiring many lesser known and even amateur writers to write with brilliance and passion about their sport. In this book I have attempted to select a number of gems and rarities of fowling literature from famous writers as well as including notes, articles and snippets from less well known, but nevertheless, enthusiastic scribes. This anthology will, I hope, help preserve some of the more obscure wildfowling tales for gunners of the future. Several of the post war wildfowling stories include those of writers who contributed to now defunct sporting periodicals of that era. Their stories I consider masterpieces of the genre and have been included for the benefit of future generations. In some cases it has been impossible to communicate with them or their relatives, who may contact the publishers if they so wish.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wildfowling Tales: From the Great Ducking Resorts of the Continent Saturday was to be the day, but the fates were against me; for on Friday, Frat dropped off the train; the other three of our quartette who were wont to make Green head unhappy over his breakfast also came into town (oak Lake) in the old democrat, and when the four of them pulled out after the yearly reunion, it was in the direction that spelled disaster for the field - feeding mal lards. But it spelled disaster otherwise; for brotherly love is supposed to know no bounds, and now I was gun less; Frat had the custody of my game-getter - a su preme concession this, I maintain, for a shooter. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the weary urban dweller, the verdant Mangala valley near the Bandipur National Park in Karnataka,; would seem like a haven of peace and tranquility. Appearances could not be more deceptive, as Saad Bin Jung discovered after forsaking his life in the city for a stone cottage in the valley. If the surrounding jungles were teeming with wildlife of every variety, the life that the human of the area led was no less wild. Here, he recounts the adventures that he had with some of them: the leopard who moved into 'bison cottage', the dining hall cobra, the magnificent Mangala tiger, Torn Ears, the most-photographed gaur of his time, and the elephants whom he loved with a passion, Colonel Hathi, Jayaprakash and even the Rightchipped Tusker with his bullying ways, amongst them. Not to be outdone were the members of the Kuruba tribe and other humans - Mr B, the family expert, the elderly manager with a raging libido, the gorgeous foreign girls who almost saw him booted out of the family - who came to share his life at Bush Betta, the wildlife resort that he set up in 1991. Hair-raising and hilarious, these are stories that anyone who has had a taste of the wild, or wished that they could, will enjoy, as much for their drama and comedy as for the many fascinating insights into animal behaviour that they provide. No less compelling is the message between the lines, the grandeur and beauty of India's forests, and the need to preserve them at all costs.

This book was released on 2013-01-04 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1859, this scarce early work on Wildfowling in all its various forms, is both expensive and hard to find in any edition. We have now republished the third and best edition of 1875, using the original text and engravings. The author was an acknowledged expert in the art of wildfowling, and this book is probably the best researched and most descriptive early title on this increasingly popular field sport. It ranks among the highest class of sporting literature. The book's substantial four hundred and thirty six pages contain numerous comprehensive chapters, including: Fowling; Ancient Methods; History of Decoys (nine chapters); Decoy Ducks; The Flight Pond; Wild Fowl Shooting; The Fowler's Dog; Language of Wild Fowl; Flight of Wild Fowl; The Gunning Punt; Punt Guns; Management of the Punt Gun; Punting by Daylight; The Sailing Punt; Night Punting; Goose Shooting; The Quarry (20 detailed chapters); Wild Swan Shooting; Shooting Yachts, Boats and Canoes; The Cripple Chase; Wild Duck Shooting; Coastal Shooting; Fenland Shooting; Methods of Capturing Woodcock; Laws Affecting Wild Fowl; Fowling Abroad (11 chapters); Rock Fowling in The Shetlands, Orkney and St. Kilda; Wildfowling Ashore by Night; Snipe and Woodcock Shooting; Etc, etc. The contents are nicely illustrated with full page steel engravings and several wood-cuts. This is a fascinating read for any dedicated shooting man, fowler, or historian of the sport, but also contains much information that is still useful and practical today.

There were often skirmishes with the rival groups and an on-going tussle with the Native Americans, who wanted to preserve their own space. But can a group of "mountain men” survive in these environments or will they succumb to the pressure? R.M. Ballantyne was a famous children's author and a renowned artist.
