Book Synopsis Being Forgotten on the Internet by : Alexander Novotny
Download or read book Being Forgotten on the Internet written by Alexander Novotny and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The boundless long-term retention of information about people's lives on the world wide web jeopardizes their reputation and deprives them of a fresh start. Mr. Costeja González' reputation, for example, was damaged by twelve year-old newspaper articles on Google attesting him a poor creditworthiness (ECJ C-131/12). His case triggered a public discussion about creating a "forgetting Internet" and counteracting the "age of everlasting personal data retention." This book argues that the world wide web endangers people's reputation by presenting them and their online profiles short of temporal context. Drawing on Heidegger's and Ricoeur's philosophy of time, Walzer's spheres of justice, Solove's visionary pragmatism for privacy and Nissenbaum's theory of privacy as contextual integrity, the book proposes safeguarding the "temporal contextual integrity" of personal information online. The author suggests designing web user interfaces for making the passage of time within people's online representations prominent. With time-sensitive interfaces, employers start ignoring job seekers' obsolete reputation in online labor markets. Technology requirements for a "forgetting Internet" are discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Nationalism on the Internet by : Christian Fuchs
Download or read book Nationalism on the Internet written by Christian Fuchs and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this timely book, critical theorist Christian Fuchs asks: What is nationalism and what is the role of social media in the communication of nationalist ideology? Advancing an applied Marxist theory of nationalism, Fuchs explores nationalist discourse in the world of contemporary digital capitalism that is shaped by social media, big data, fake news, targeted advertising, bots, algorithmic politics, and a high-speed online attention economy. Through two case studies of the German and Austrian 2017 federal elections, the book goes on to develop a critical theory of nationalism that is grounded in the works of Karl Marx, Rosa Luxemburg, and Eric J. Hobsbawm. Advanced students and scholars of Marxism, nationalism, media, and politics won't want to miss Fuchs' latest in-depth study of social media and politics that uncovers the causes, structures, and consequences of nationalism in the age of social media and fake news.

What happens to touch when we come together digitally? This publication brings together diverse perspectives and approaches to interrogate the widespread contention that increasing digitalisation in childhood leads to tactile deprivation. The authors describe sensory practices in early childhood as media practices in which skin and screens, eyes and ears interact synergistically to bring forth sensorial events. The publication is built around 10 short films featuring touch. The combination of texts and films stimulates an exploration of interrelationships between embodiment, materiality, and virtuality in digital childhoods. Mit den besten Wünschen
Book Synopsis Political Campaigning, Elections and the Internet by : Darren Lilleker
Download or read book Political Campaigning, Elections and the Internet written by Darren Lilleker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Internet first played a minor role in the 1992 U.S. Presidential election, and has gradually increased in importance so that it is central to election campaign strategy. However, election campaigners have, until very recently, focused on Web 1.0: websites and email. Political Campaigning, Elections and the Internet contextualises the US Presidential campaign of 2008 within three other contests: France 2007; Germany 2009; and the UK 2010. In offering a comparative history of the use of the Internet as an election tool, the authors are able to test the optimistic view that the Internet is transforming elections while also mapping the role the Internet plays and performs for parties and candidates. Lilleker and Jackson offer in-depth analysis demonstrating how interactive Web 2.0 online tools, including weblogs, social networking sites and file-sharing sites, are utilised and evaluate the role of these tools in the marketing and branding of parties and candidates. Examining the interactivity between candidate, party, and voter, this important book will be of strong interest to students and scholars of political science, elections, international relations and political communication. It will be of value to those within public relations, marketing and related communication and media programmes.
