This book was released on 2007-08-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radio astronomers have developed techniques of calibration of large reflector antennas with radio astronomical methods, but these have not been comprehensively described. This text aims to fill this gap, taking a practical approach to the characterisation of antennas. All calculations and results in the form of tables and figures have been made with Mathematica by Wolfram Research. The reader can use the procedures for the implementation of his own input data.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The move toward worldwide wireless communications continues at a remarkable pace, and the antenna element of the technology is crucial to its success. With contributions from more than 30 international experts, the Handbook of Antennas in Wireless Communications brings together all of the latest research and results to provide engineering professionals and students with a one-stop reference on the theory, technologies, and applications for indoor, hand-held, mobile, and satellite systems. Beginning with an introduction to wireless communications systems, it offers an in-depth treatment of propagation prediction and fading channels. It then explores antenna technology with discussion of antenna design methods and the various antennas in current use or development for base stations, hand held devices, satellite communications, and shaping beams. The discussions then move to smart antennas and phased array technology, including details on array theory and beamforming techniques. Space diversity, direction-of-arrival estimation, source tracking, and blind source separation methods are addressed, as are the implementation of smart antennas and the results of field trials of systems using smart antennas implemented. Finally, the hot media topic of the safety of mobile phones receives due attention, including details of how the human body interacts with the electromagnetic fields of these devices. Its logical development and extensive range of diagrams, figures, and photographs make this handbook easy to follow and provide a clear understanding of design techniques and the performance of finished products. Its unique, comprehensive coverage written by top experts in their fields promises to make the Handbook of Antennas in Wireless Communications the standard reference for the field.

Book Synopsis Caustic-matching by : Carlyle J. Sletten
Download or read book Caustic-matching written by Carlyle J. Sletten and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflector antennas designed with the aid of a technique by which the caustics of the subreflector are matched to those of the main reflector are shown to have improved limited-sector-scanning capabilities. The matching is achieved over angular scanning sectors of interest by positioning and shaping subreflectors for parabolic cylinder and paraboloidal antennas. The important applications are in air traffic control radars and satellite communications where a small-aperture subreflector can be illuminated by a plane-wave source such as a small phased array, resulting in high-gain limited-scan beam-steering on a large-aperture reflector.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic engineers often deal with problems in which the surfaces of the geometrics being studied do not conform to the eleven coordinate systems in which wave equations are separable. In such cases, when exact solutions of wave equations don't apply, approximate methods must suffice.

Download or read book Apertures written by R. C. Hansen and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microwave Scanning Antennas, Volume I: Apertures is a comprehensive account of phased arrays, multiple beam arrays, time domain and synthetic apertures, and adaptive antennas. Advances in continuous apertures and near field theory are discussed. Low noise and monopulse apertures, optical scanners, and large radomes are also covered, along with radio astronomy instruments and associated theory. Comprised of five chapters, this volume begins with an overview of aperture theory as well as aperture distributions and near field theory. The second and third chapters deal with mechanically steered and electronically scanned antennas, including monopulse antennas and optical scanners. The fourth chapter is devoted to radio astronomy instruments and techniques and encompasses both apertures and arrays, together with radio telescopes and antennas. The final chapter describes large radomes that are primarily used with aperture antennas. This book is intended for engineers who must understand narrow beam or high resolution antennas more deeply than from the system interfaces alone, and for undergraduate and graduate students in electronics who wish to complement their study of electromagnetics with the quantitative details of hardware applications.
