Currently, there is no book on addiction that is talking about how to prevent addiction. My book does! It may seem strange that no one else is talking about how to prevent addiction. It's because the current theory on addiction is that it is a maladjusted coping mechanism. Those who suffer from emotional pain may abuse drugs to mask their pain. I disagree. Whether you can get addicted to any drug depends on your genetic predisposition to that drug. Every drug has a different genetic basis. A person who becomes a lot more talkative and excited after the first few drinks is the person who has the alcohol gene. The same is true for opioid pain medications. Most are not susceptible to either! No one wants to get addicted. Addicts got addicted because they did not know they were getting addicted. They did not know they were getting addicted because they did not know they were getting high. Let me explain! High is never dopey, loopy, or intoxicating at first. High is anything that artificially makes you happy, sometimes extremely happy. A person who is high is always more awake and alert, not dopey or intoxicated. The high produces the same chemical reaction in your brain as sex. No one's feeling dopey or loopy while having sex. Because we have done such a poor job explaining what the true high is that someone who smokes pot and gets dopey thinks he is high (when he is not), and a person who feels great on pain pills do not think that he is (when he is). Once you understand these simple concepts, you can prevent yourself from getting addicted! This is the only way to win the war on drugs.

Book excerpt: “A novelistic mosaic that simultaneously reads like a thriller and like a strange, dreamlike excursion into the subconscious.” —The New York Times Years ago, when House of Leaves was first being passed around, it was nothing more than a badly bundled heap of paper, parts of which would occasionally surface on the Internet. No one could have anticipated the small but devoted following this terrifying story would soon command. Starting with an odd assortment of marginalized youth -- musicians, tattoo artists, programmers, strippers, environmentalists, and adrenaline junkies -- the book eventually made its way into the hands of older generations, who not only found themselves in those strangely arranged pages but also discovered a way back into the lives of their estranged children. Now this astonishing novel is made available in book form, complete with the original colored words, vertical footnotes, and second and third appendices. The story remains unchanged, focusing on a young family that moves into a small home on Ash Tree Lane where they discover something is terribly wrong: their house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Of course, neither Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Will Navidson nor his companion Karen Green was prepared to face the consequences of that impossibility, until the day their two little children wandered off and their voices eerily began to return another story -- of creature darkness, of an ever-growing abyss behind a closet door, and of that unholy growl which soon enough would tear through their walls and consume all their dreams.

Book excerpt: An unfiltered, unapologetic, hilarious, and sometimes obscene assemblage of tales from the down-and-dirty traveling comedy circuit Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity. While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants. Not to say he hasn't rubbed elbows with fame. He's crashed its party, snorted its coke, and jumped into its pool naked, literally and often repeatedly -- all while artfully dodging fame himself. Doug spares no legally permissible detail, and his stories couldn't be told any other way. They're weird, uncomfortable, gross, disturbing, and fucking funny. This Is Not Fame is by no means a story of overcoming a life of excess, immorality, and reckless buffoonery. It's an outright celebration of it. For Stanhope, the party goes on.

Book excerpt: The enchanting and insightful story of a woman trying to reconcile her rock-and-roll past with her respectable present When Geraldine Colshares drops out of graduate school to become the only white backup singer in an R&B band, nobody thinks it is a good idea. Not her parents, who are sure she is on drugs. Not her best friend, who sees going on tour as a way of staving off real life. Not even Doo-Wah Banks, her Juilliard-trained bandmate and crush, who suggests she find a nice white husband. But to be a Shakette—as in Vernon and Ruby Shakely and the Shakettes—has been the burning desire of Geraldine’s heart since puberty, and when she steps on stage in her chartreuse dress and luminescent shoes, she knows she is exactly where she belongs. All good things must come to an end, however, and after two years on the road Geraldine quits the band and settles down to the kind of conventional routine—marriage, children, dinner parties—she never expected. To her family and friends, Geraldine seems to have it all, but the question remains: Once you’ve been a Shakette, will anything else ever feel so right? A hilarious and touching novel about staying true to yourself while moving on with life, Goodbye Without Leaving stars one of Laurie Colwin’s most distinctive and delightful heroines. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Laurie Colwin including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s estate.

Alone, broke, a jobless dreamer, he roams the streets of Dublin in search of work, love and a way out of his own personal misery. A twisted love story of longing, love and loss, full of black humour, dry wit and biting social commentary, this honest and gritty novel brings the streets of Dublin to life and offers a fascinating insight into what it was like to live in Ireland during that insane era which preceded the collapse of the Irish economy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Donald Trump God's way of showing us how much doaEUR"do we are in? This is the burning question as Hal, a space alien, assembles a colorful crew of characters, including some other space aliens and an NSA analysis, this, so as to tell the tale of Johnny Leroy Ronn. Much of the plot grows out of the notion that God itself expects the people of planet Earth to help out with keeping our planet cool, this, by way of moving on unto overunity/overperformance energy production. Many of the events of Hal's exciting tale are based on the author's real life. For example, in 1982, in both the book and in real life, a government agent threatened our protagonists, "If you ever take another job from which Social Security is withheld, we will kill you." Indeed, unto this day, the real author of this book (as portrayed by the character Johnny Leroy Ronn) continues to battle the government's efforts to suppress his work. However, with the publishing of this book, after thirtyaEUR"eight years of poverty and harassment, his quantitative gravity (QG) theory, which appears near the end of this book, does finally see the light of day. Morse's QG is the real thing; it can be expected to augment/replace Albert Einstein's general relativity, and it can be expected to enable our scientists to address some existential issues related to overunity/overperformance energy production for the first time. Put another way, this book is going to knock the socks off the science community.
