In this revision of a foundational work, John Piper reveals how grace is not only God’s undeserved gift to us in the past, but also God’s power to make good happen for us today, tomorrow, and forever. True life for the follower of Jesus really is a moment-by-moment trust that God is dependable and fulfills his promises. This is living by faith in future grace, which provides God's mercy, provision, and wisdom—everything we need—to accomplish his good plans for us. In Future Grace, chapter by chapter—one for each day of the month—Piper reveals how cherishing the promises of God helps break the power of persistent sin issues like anxiety, despondency, greed, lust, bitterness, impatience, pride, misplaced shame, and more. Ultimate joy, peace, and hope in life and death are found in a confident, continual awareness of the reality of future grace.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book excerpt: In Astonished, Pastor Mike Erre calls Christians away from simplistic formulas to honest and rugged faith in the mysterious and unpredictable God. God is more about deepening the mystery of faith, not removing it. Jesus should get bigger the longer we walk with him. Life and faith should grow to be more profound and wondrous, not less. In Astonished, you will see how we are far more comfortable with tips, steps and techniques for living, than we are with ruthlessly trusting the mysterious God of the Bible. God asks us to follow him into tension, frustration, and difficulty because he wants our trust, not just our intellectual agreement. He calls us to seek Him even as we live in awe of all that is yet to be known about Him. Astonished is an invitation to question in a culture that wants answers, to wonder in a world with little mystery left, and to believe in what is unseen and find it beautiful.

Book excerpt: We have all experienced a disconnect between God's promises to us and our everyday reality. We wait, without understanding why. We want to know God's plan so that we can trust it--but God so often hides his plan so that we will trust him. What can we do in the meantime as we are waiting for an answer, a change, or a miracle? With deep compassion, Wayne Stiles helps readers understand why God makes them wait. Unpacking the Old Testament story of Joseph, Stiles shows readers how to find comfort and opportunity in the time between God's promises and his answers, revealing the perspective-altering truth that sometimes when we think we are waiting on God, he is actually waiting on us. Anyone who has felt a disconnect between God's promises and their reality, who doesn't know what God wants them to do next, or who struggles with the brokenness of their world will find in Wayne Stiles a wise and trustworthy guide to finding peace in the pauses.

Book excerpt: I was stirred to write this because I believe in my heart that there are many who are losing hope. With all the uncertainties and calamities going on in the world and our own personal lives I can understand this to some reason. But the main reason people are losing hope is that we are focused on the wrong things. We are looking at the wrong direction, listening to the wrong people, and getting all the wrong answers and promises from those who lie and deceive. Below is the first few paragraphs to my book which will give more insight: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” (Proverbs 13:12) I have this word “Hope” burning in my spirit in this season. I believe that there are many out there, although they may appear all right on the surface, are disappointed in their dreams, are fearful and worried, do not see a future, and are very troubled in both heart and mind. The lack of hope or seemingly not having hope at all is very disturbing and will bring you to great depression which will kill any ambition. I am here to say and to tell you and assure you that all is not lost. I want to assure you that hope is real and we all have a reason for hope no matter how dark your circumstances are and no matter how bleak your future appears. Our verse above tells us that hope deferred makes the heart sick. Deferred means to be delayed or to be postponed temporarily. I hope that you have grasped our first point. Our first point being that what you are hoping for is not gone or lost and not within your grasp and your future. It is just delayed and just temporarily postponed. If deferred hope makes the hearts sick, what does the lack of or the perception of no hope do to a person. Do not believe the lie that there is never any hope! There is always hope! That thing that you are expecting and dreaming about will eventually and assuredly happen and come to pass. Even if your at the end of your rope, hang on, push in, and press forward, there is always hope.

Book excerpt: In this 31-day devotional, pastor and bestselling author Adam Hamilton shows how the Bible's most memorable stories can help us nurture lives of peace, courage, and hope. Our capacity to experience fear is a gift from God. It protects us from harm by sensing possible danger and motivating us to act. But fear can also dominate our lives. We worry about the future, about our health, about disappointing our friends and family. When these worries play over and over in our minds without resolution, it can rob us of joy and keep us from pursuing the life we're meant to live. In Living Unafraid, Pastor Hamilton walks readers through 31 of the Bible's most-loved stories, showing how the people of Scripture found hope in God in the face of adversity and some of life's most frightening situations. Each day, he unpacks a new lesson--from Creation to the Gospels to the final words of Revelation--showing how God's love and deliverance can empower us for the battles we face today. Thoughtful, practical, and grounded in Scripture, Living Unafraid is an essential read for anyone seeking hope along life's journey.

Book excerpt: A disruptive and surprising journey through the Beatitudes. Most of the time, life doesn't work out like we expect it will. We spend time and energy trying to climb some sort of spiritual ladder, oblivious to the fact that it is God who is moving toward us. We want answers to our problems, yet what is offered is presence. What if we were to become united with our brokenness rather than our victories? What if God moves closest to us in the absence, the ache, and the longing? Words from the Hill turns each beatitude on its head to see the unexpected beneath the understood--diving into the story of a woman on death row to speak about mercy, personal stories from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to talk about peace, and much more. Stu Garrard has walked with these people in their stories, and he vulnerably offers his own as he unpacks the Good News of the Beatitudes. God is on your side, and He is closer than you think.
